ps3 only reads drives formatted in FAT32 otherwise it doesn't recognize it.

@yyyy2999 you dont need to download anything, all you need to do is right click on the usb and click format. then find FAT32 and you reformatted your usb to Fat32.

Your drive needs to be formatted to FAT32. I made the mistake of buying one that wasn't and had to buy a second.

@jang270467149o i got the same problem, i found out that this specific hard drive does not work because it isnt in FAT32 format. you need a external hard drive that works in NTFS as well as FAT32 format

@fizeeq now youre wrong too my friend if you put the hdd on another ps3 it will ask you to format it and if you choose not to then you wont be able to use the ps3 until the hdd is formatted each hd that comes with the ps3 you can only use it with the system that came with it due copyright stuff the only way to transfer even the saved data is with the transfer utility the back up only backs up videos ad music (and saved data only if its going to be resotred on the same ps3 hdd and console)

What do u mean that ur ps3 has died? U mean u cant turn it on anymore? If so, then u cant access the backup utility function at all. Btw, i think it is possible to backup your data to a SD card because it is still a storage device that can be read by the PS3.

Quick my a#s. Quick to do because there are no options. Takes over 3 hours to back up my PS3 and I happen to be lucky to have a "spare" HDD big enough to do it. Sony get your act together and allow selective backup using the backup utility. Only want to backup, OS, settings, saved game data and (some) download data.

Don't run a cracked disc in your PS3. Those disc's run at extremely high speeds and the cracked disc might shatter and destroy the blue-ray ODD and possibly your PS3 along with it.
