  • what does "simplify" mean

  • this helped me on midterm exams

  • Thanks for posting;) very helpful.

  • Your way of teaching is so simple and effective. THANKS :)

  • wait y would you Simplyfy 2 with 38 and 20 with 20?

  • @katiegonewild18

Because 2 is the largest thing we can divide both 38 and 100 by. The same is true for 20 and 100, 20 is the largest.

    I hope that helps! :-)

  • @mbrandl11 ok but cant u just kepp simplyfying by 2

  • @katiegonewild18

You certainly can. It just might take a few more steps.

  • @mbrandl11 ok i thought because i learned that in 5th i get it i think we havnt started it but we have pop quizes and i just wont to be ready for it

  • thanks this helped me a lot and i was wondering can you send me a video on how to convert fraction to decimals and percentages and decimals to purcentages and fraction and you know what comes after that thanks. Ben

  • @ZackRyder777

Search my videos for "fractions" and I think you'll find all of the combinations you're looking for! :-)

  • thank you much.

  • Thanks you made me yawn lol

  • but how do you convert 124 and 2/3% into a fraction or mixed number?

  • @Mrpeterthegreat9999

Start by converting the percent into an improper fraction. That gives us: 374/3

Remember that a percent is out of 100 so to convert it into a fraction we put it over 100.

Recall that when dividing with fractions we keep the first part (374/3), change the division to multiplication, and take the reciprocal of the second part (100 becomes 1/100). Do that multiplication to get 374/300. we can divide both by 2 to simplify and get 187/150 or 1 37/150 as a mixed number. :-)

  • this helped a bunch! thx

  • hey mrband what grade do you learn this?

    and thanks for help.

i got big test and i want to leave special education

would you tell me what should i learn since your smart or teacher?

i'm did the test today and yesterday and i did good.

  • @DarkMan649

I created the video for a Pre-Algebra class for 7th grade.

My best advice to to keep working hard and take advantage of all the various resources you can use to improve your skills, like these videos. Remember, you can do anything you put your mind to! :-)

  • thank you very much. you make it very much easier thank you.

  • Ahhhhh thx I've missed a lot of school and I needed this or I'm screwed tommorow. :D stupid grade 8 math... :/

  • Finally somebody that can teach me step by step thank you so much i aprecciate it !

  • Mine says 16% of 50

  • @MrsBieberlicious61

We can just multiply the percent as a decimal by 50 to figure out what 16% of 50 would be.

  • Thankyou so much! My math teacher doesn't teach me anything and yet she assigns us homework that we don't know. This really helped me

  • Its official youtube is better in teaching than school LETS ALL GO TO you school! XD

  • i like this but what if you have a percent like 71.4%..how would you convert something like this in to a fraction?

  • @lay2cute

We still put it over 100 to start with. So we get: 71.4/100

We can't have a decimal in the fraction, so we need to multiply, in this case by ten, to get rid of it. We can also think of this as moving the decimal one place to the right on the top and bottom.

    That gives us: 714/1000

    From there we can simplify.

    I hope that helps! :-)

  • Hey, thank for a great vid. I get the step but you are using a calculator and I will taking a test soon and we cant use that. How can I improve reducing number?

  • @PikabooxxD

My suggestion would be to keep it simple. If both the numerator and denominator are even, divide by two. if they both end in 0 or 5, divide by 5, etc. You may have to divide multiple times, but you'll get where you need to be without worrying too much about picking the "right" numbers.

    I hope that's helpful! :-)

  • how did u just get the number when u divide it though... do u just make up a number??????

  • @arpitahuja

No, I probably do it too quickly sometimes though...sorry!

To simplify fractions we divide by the greatest common factor of the denominator and numerator (top and bottom numbers). We can also simplify by dividing by any number than both are divisible by. It might take more than one step if it's not the GCF, but that's ok. You just keep dividing until there's nothing that will divide both the top and bottom evenly.

You can also check out my videos on simplifying fractions. :-)

  • @mbrandl11 its alll good... just had my exam today so i hadda stuudy alott yesturday.. thx for the help!!

  • Thank you very much!!!!! Great help!!!!!

  • can u tell me wat grade is this 4?3rd,4th,5th?

  • @lma0PANDA

It could be used at any of those levels. I was teaching a juniorhigh class when I made it.

  • @lma0PANDA

It's for babies, if you can't do then you suck at Math. Like myself, and I'm taking calculus now it seems easier to me

  • honestly thank you so so much ! i am taking my teas exam tomorow and i needed to learn all of this stuff.

  • Great vid. My only question is why you decided to divide the fraction by 2,20,4, etc. Keep the videos comin. Don't worry about idiots like "cubscursed". He's a scrubs fan so no wonder why he's a dbag!

  • @Mikec19

To simplify fractions we divide by the greatest common factor of the denominator and numerator (top and bottom numbers). We can also simplify by dividing by any number than both are divisible by. It might take more than one step if it's not the GCF, but that's ok. You just keep dividing until there's nothing that will divide both the top and bottom evenly.

  • You explain it in a easy way, my teacher gives us lots of ways to do it and just ends up confusing us. This was a BIG help!

  • Watching this video at midnight and i feel like yawning =D

  • where were you yesterday I'm a pharmacy technician student and went on my first interview for my externship and i failed the pharmacy calculations. i just froze up i could not remember the function to convert percents to fractions. you are a channel i will be check in with daily... your voice is nice and you communicate very well. thanks

  • Wth? Are we keeping you awake!? What's up with the yawn??? Take a nap next time before you're going to do some teaching, please!

  • @cubscursed

Sorry about that. It's not that I'm tried, but often when I talk a lot I start yawning. I apollogize for the distraction.

  • @cubscursed no need to be so rude to the guy atleast he is bothering to teach people.

i found this very helpfull thankyou

  • @daarriius Hey dude shut the fuck up and go bother somebody else, get off my cloud!

  • @cubscursed go kill yourself you anonymous fat bastard hiding behind a screen on youtube..

you clearly have an incredibly interesting life

  • @daarriius hey fart face, the only thing fat on me is my cock, just ask your mom, dad and sister. they all choked when they blew me. jerkoff!!!

  • @cubscursed so mature! nice insults;) and fart face really?

no one loved you as a chilld and the funny thing is this going to be some stupid prick that has no future learning how to do maths. you're going to go back to your shitty home with your mum who probably cries herself to sleep knowing that her son is a failure

im a drama teacher so im "down with the kids" :) fart face..wow

you started this argument so how about you stop now yeah

    kind regards

    fart face

  • @daarriius/fartface, " he is bothering to teach people." " the funny thing is this going to be some stupid prick that has no future learning how to do maths." Wow! I'd like to think a "Drama" teacher is an educated person. Clearly you are NOT. Sweeping the floors of drama classes does not make you a Drama teacher. You're around kids????? You're probably a child molestor and should be locked up. Fuck off

  • @cubscursed MANZ GOT SOME SICK PARRING SKILLS

dude go kill yourself i got better things to do then talk to some nobody behind they're screen im not replying to anything else you say because i have won this argument and you cannot match me, im superior so bow before me

  • @daarriius/fartface, Fine go the hell away already. The only thing you've won (and probably THE only one in your sheltered life time) here is proving you suck ass at grammar, not capable of an original though, pushing a broom for a living and being a complete douchebag. Congrats! BTW, YOU bow down to these nuts you SUPERIOR ASS!!!!

  • Because Of The Fraction Line Thats How I Knew You Were Left Handed

  • Thanks for the help! I subbed!

  • your lady gaga put 20 thumbs ups

  • thank you you saved me from getting a bad mark on my unit test

  • well mbrandl11 when it comes to looking and paying attention to things say like the way you do your zeros not everyone writes them in a clockwise motion like me i do mine counter clockwise because im right handed and to me if i was to do it clockwise it would feel to wierd to me that my friend is how i knew that and thank you for the video im very bad at math and this will help me in my study for getting into the military

  • im 99% .99 99/100 that guys left handed

  • @squidbilly32

You're right. How could you tell?

  • @mbrandl11 I thought so too but I'm not sure how I guessed. I think it's the way you write some of your numbers and your division bar (opposite direction than me, a righty). BTW, thanks for these videos. I'm relearning what I learned at the beginning of the term for a final LOL

  • @mbrandl11 ...You gave yourself away when you drew your fraction line from right to left. Which is opposite of what I (being right handed) do. :-)

  • @mbrandl11 moving right to left.. makes it easy to see what your writing!

  • @mbrandl11 Because Of The Fraction Line Thats How I Knew You Were Left Handed

  • HM....... tryna get it all into my head........

  • on 0.4% how do you know to divide by 4

  • @AsianHitman1

Because 4 is the greatest common factor of 4 and 100. In general, when simplifying fractions, start by seeing if you can divide the bottom number by the top number evenly. If so, that's the quickest way to get the fraction into simplest form.

We could also divide by two on the top and bottom, but them you'd have to divide again to get it into simplest form.

    Make sense?

  • @mbrandl11 oh i get it now thanks

  • how do you determine what numbers to divide them by?

  • @noWatimsayin1

Percent means "per one hundred" so anytime we convert a percent into a fraction it will be over 100. :-)

  • @mbrandl11 No I meant like after you go 38 over 100 and divide both of them by 2, how do you get the 2? does it matter what number you choose as long as both of it are even?

  • @noWatimsayin1

    Oh ok!

We divide by a common factor of the two numbers. If you divide by the GCF, then you'll only have to divide once.

You can also just divide by anything that divides both evenly. Keep doing so until you can no longer divide both the top and bottom by the same number with it coming out evenly.

    Example:

    Simplify 4/12

Divide by two on the two and bottom to get: 2/6.

Then divide by two again to get: 1/3

Or just divide by 4 on the top and bottom to get: 1/3

  • @mbrandl11 Well, here, I have a question.

Say I converted 3/8 into 37.5%. I want to do the reverse, back into the fraction. Problem is, 375 is friggin huge. I tried 5, but you can't get 8 out of 5 or what not. How would I find the GCF to get 3/8 out of 37.5%?

  • @Neofcon

Remember to convert a percent into a fraction we put it over 100.

    So we have: 37.5/100.

Then to get rid of the decimal in the fraction we multiply by 10 on the top and bottom of the fraction to get: 375/1000

Finally, divide by 125 on the top and bottom to simplify and get 3/8

I hope the helps! Good luck! :-)

  • @mbrandl11 How would I determine the 125? Or any number to divide by?

  • @Neofcon

125 is the GCF of 375 and 1000.

You could also divide by any other number that goes into 375 and 1000, but then you have to keep dividing until there's nothing else that they have in common.

    For example:

If we divide by five on the top and bottom we'd have:

    75/200

Then we'd have to divide by 25 or 5 because both 75 and 200 are divisible by both of those numbers. Let's divide by 25.

    3/8

    I hope that helps!

  • @mbrandl11 then the 100 is whats determining how many spaces to the left to move the decimal? and its to the left because its division.. ty for these vids

  • @JewelsFromVenus

    You got it! :-)

  • This is the third time I take Algebra and when we start getting to this stuff is when I get way behind. After watching you do those couple problems-I finally get it!!! I dont know if its just that there is no pressure on utube or what, but I get it now- its actually super simple. Thank goodness and THANK YOU!

  • @Msbbopalula So true, I find it much easier to understand on here then in a class room.

  • Great job on this video. I am a teacher and always learn a few new ways to explain math when I watch your vieos.

  • This is the first time I got so interested into the complication of basic Math. Thank you for the video.

  • hey thanks i think that i can try to pass the test now. its so simple when ur shown how to do as apposed to here is a book and you learn!!

  • if ur teachin smeone how to do math problems and ur usin a calculator to cheat makes no sense explain how ur dividin. not usin a calculator come on man.

  • @86kingmike

The thing is, I could walk everywhere, but I choose to bike and drive sometimes because it takes less time and is easier. Calculators are a great tool and they're everywhere. I think it's important to know how to use them too. Perhaps sometime I'll create a video working out the division by hand. Thanks for the feedback.

  • @86kingmike Not only that, but he's skipping steps without explanation.

  • heheheeheheheh

  • thankyou so much i dont feel dumb anymore!!!

  • Thank you.

  • um.... can you reduce 12/13 to lowest term?.....if Yes then pls tell me how

  • @achrista13

It's already in lowest terms because there's no number we can divide 12 and 13 by evenly.

  • @mbrandl11 thnx! I wish you were my teacher......it's much more easier to understand you

  • @mbrandl11 thnx

  • thank you you saved me for the biggest test of my life and your very easy to understand not like my teacher thanks a lot

  • you have just saved my life thank you

just one thing do you know how to convert a precent that has a fraction in it like 18 3/4%

  • We can just convert the fraction into a decimal. So 3/4 = .75. Then tack that onto the whole percent to get 18.75%

From there we can convert it into a decimal by moving the decimal point like usual. To make it a fraction we just put it over 100. 18.75/100 In order to get rid of the decimal, we'd have to multiply by 100 on the top and bottom to get 1875/10000. Then you can simplify as needed.

    i hope that helps!

  • what would happen if i was converting the percentage into fractions with out simplifying and just left the answer as is, because either way when you divide 38 by 100 or 19 divided by 50 u still get 0.38

  • You're absolutely right! No matter what form it's still the same value.

Ultimately, what you should do comes down to what you need as your answer. If you want it in simplest form, then we need to simplify. If you're just looking for a fraction, then either one would work.

  • this will help me so much for my test tomorrow thank you

  • wat program u use

  • I use CamStudio to make the videos.

  • This has helped me so much I cant beleive how simple you make this look.. u r the coolest!!!

  • Yeah this will help my on my HW. (its really hard until you get it and i I'm trying to get it

  • Thank you very much sir, that was extremely helpful and has made it very clear to me. Thank you.

  • cool nice work!

  • cool its helped me do my home work thanks

  • man, did that really help me! my teacher is sooo confusing!

  • Good video, Thanks for posting. It helped me a bunch!

  • OMG !! YOU ARE A GOD ! (NO SARCASM) lol
