I collect stamps, I esp like the rare, expensive ones with a blue color. I set them ablaze, the older they are, the more energy they give. Blue ones are better than brown or red ones, weirdo...
In your business it's better to make a little on a lot of trades & deals that a lot on 1 or 2. People come to you daily out of the blue & you need cash flow to buy & move. Good lasting business is also WIFM (whats in-it form me). That is why you can deal direct with the melter , as you bring regular bulk, saving him dealing with lots of nit-picking. Then as your build a large satisfied client base you attract more flow. A good deal for all = regular flow.
You can sell coins to sites like apmex for more than you're going to get melting them, and you could sell them for 50+ dollars over spot in your store. It's such a shame you would melt such beautiful coins.
I don't agree Greg. Coins have an established standard to them that allows people to know what they really got. Also, gold coins have numismatic value to them that will stop govt. confiscation & give the owner safety in keeping them. However, I will concede from the scraper point of view, there is very little value in resale. You have already paid a premium to buy the coins & still have to make a profit at the melter. The only senario for resale is rising gold prices & safety minded buyers.
@ScrapGoldBusiness damn, it's so dangerous you can't even retail a coin? Even if it was a small coin? I mean damn, be it gold or cash value, if things like 0.2 oz gold coins are too rich to hold for sale in a store-front the economy's more than in the shitter, it's nearing the time for secret-barter-only on that kind of thing & why not equal robbery risk for paper in the same place?
I'm not running a store-front, answer at your leisure...
I AM MORE OF A BUYER THAN SELLER. LOCAL BUYERS DONT HAVE THE MONEY AND MOST THAT DO WANT TO PAY LESS THAN SPOT. UNFORTUNATLY, I DONT HAVE THE PATIENCE.

I don't buy gold and am patiently waiting for the GSR to reach the 16ish area before speculating.
