@wafflecushioned Yeah, seems that youtube land is full of "single-action sallies" ; probably because they know they are being filmed and want to produce the tightest group possible on camera. The only way to do this for the casual shooter is by using single action only.
@shottaz83 for target shooting, there is no point. I however, keep my 686-7 on hand for home defense, and if I manage to pump out six shots and not hit the bad guy, that 7th shot will be the saving grace.
Everyone has been shooting single action for the last few vidoes I've seen, I understand its for accuracy but when muscle memmory kicks in in a situation I don't want to waste time cocking the hammer back.
Yeah, you definitely don't need a 6" barrel for shooting .38s. It's target practice. A 6" barrel on a revolver gives you a rather large and heavy gun, as in just under a foot long and just under 3 pounds of steel. That kind of weight comes in handy when taming the recoil of a .357 round. Don't really need all that weight to tame a mild .38 round.
@Sochill247 Yes, certainly a longer barrel will provide a longer sight radius for accuracy, so we agree. I was thinking in terms of how guns made to only fire .38 Special today are only the smallest, weakest little things around -- a compromise made for concealed carry. The .357 in that video, of course, is built like a tank and spits out .38s like they're nothing. We'd agree on the "combat" part as well. Anyone who's fired both .38 & .357 knows there is a huge difference in power.
@xOMEGAxSCP In a situation your mind will probably not resort to muscle memory of firing a gun at the range but rather instincts and just pull the trigger.
@xOMEGAxSCP wanna see the best 38 cal revolvers? check out taurus revolvers... the rt 838 38 special 8 rounds similar to anaconda but acp with a great stopping fire and is stainless steel. S&W know how do revolvers but... if you wanna see a really powerfull 38".... check out rt 838
@xOMEGAxSCP Exactly, you posted my thoughts. Why does nobody on YouTube shoot their double action revolvers in DA mode? That's the most important mode for self-defense. And it's not hard, just takes a little practice.
@xOMEGAxSCP not to mention if your action is still stiff from not shooting it much when you got cock the beefy hammer back.... it will or might take your sights off the target...NOT GOOD FOR YOU.
Double action revolvers have hammers, they can be used like a single action by cocking it back, or as a double by just pulling it. The reason you would cock it back is to lower the presser needed to pull the trigger.
You know this one was double because of the way it was loaded, the cylinder swings out so you can see where all 7 rounds go, single actions dont do this and you can only see where one round goes at any given time.
doublle has no hammer?.... are you saying a double action handgun has no hammer, because if so, you don't know what you're talking about. please clarify
yeah brah! casual shooters SUCK!

A 6 inch .38 special is not combat practice, it's target practice.

@KJonhS The long barrel does make a difference in accuracy but I was commenting more on the fact that the guy thought it was "combat" practice.
