  • @Progamble: Soon! Within the next 12 hours, I'd say. (Right now, it's the middle of the night in Phnom Penh.)

  • @khmerangkor1000

    .. and

    Pler Pler Lop Lop !

is a great insult, and not acceptable in polite Khmer society.

  • @KMFCambodia I agree!

  • ....i learn somthing in this video..

  • u changed Dara's pic to Farina's niece, on the intro :P

  • @KHMER14z

Yes. Dara is no more. So we can't have his face on our opening titles, can we?

  • @KMFCambodia Exactly :))

  • "One minute we're friends, the next he's a stranger" lol nobody says it like that in khmer.

  • @prasoeur1: My sense is that the subtitles aren't always an exact translation of the Khmer, but the subs are idiomatic English (more British than American), and the dialogue is idiomatic Khmer.

  • @WangXiangu

A disheartening aspect of making subtitles is that the audience (in general) don't appreciate how hard it is to make them representative, intelligible AND readable.

All this and crafting idiomatic English as spoken by the relevant characters.

Some multi-linguists seem to expect a word-by-word translation - this is often unwieldy, ponderous, unreadable.

Our subtitles are succinct so they can be read in an instant, with minimal distraction from action-on-screen.

  • @WangXiangu the scripts might have been in english and they translated it into Khmer for the characters to say and i think they did a really good job only a tiny error every now and then. For this particular phrase that Vichaka said though, it was literally translated from English word for word which sounds really odd in Khmer.

  • @prasoeur1

I can't remember what the character is saying in exact Khmer when "One minute we're friends, the next he's a stranger" flashes up.

I'd bet good money it's not the exact wording. It could be there isn't even one matching word.

But I'd bet the bank that the English words encapsulate the Khmer words in their meaning.

  • @prasoeur1: Ah, OK. My Khmer is (regrettably) not good enough to pick up on things like that--thanks! Maybe you can tell me this: What is the difference beween "chkout" and "lop lop?" They both seem to mean "crazy" or "stupid" or "foolish," but how do you know when to use one word or the other?

  • @WangXiangu lol someone just said it. chkout is crazy, insane. Lop lop is silly, foolish. i use them interchangeably sometimes, but chkout is more serious than lop. These two words dont mean stupid though. Stupid is Pler, Lngong (pronounced LA-GNONG), Chout (CH-OUT) and Mog (M-OH-G). The last one is a slang, it would be really funny if a foreigner got caught saying it lol

  • @5:35: Happy to see that Zana has completely recovered from the fire.

Another episode that ended much too quickly--and yet another one that demonstrates why Bopha is my favorite character. I'm just trying to see Bopha and Leap as a couple, and I can't. I do think that Sary and Mei could use a stronge female figure in their lives.

I really like the scenes between Chantha and her mom.

    We need Ep. 28 ASAP!!!
