Hacksaw1433 In my opinion, neutered male cats are the friendliest and most loving. We have three neutered male Ragdolls. Only one is what I would call a "lapcat". He knows that hands are for petting and scratching behind his ears and he will do anything to get his head under your hand. But the all three come when called. Greet any visitor at the door and will let my son carry them around. Best breed ever. How old is your cat? Spaying might help if she is not already.

Handsome cat. I love my Ragdoll, he likes rolling on his back too. He has a gigantic white beard, always grabs people's attention. The real reason they are called Ragdolls is because the first person to breed them noticed if you pick them up they usually go limp on you and only hang on lightly with the fronts, letting their butts sag. Mine does.

@tdsviper Hi Sebastian... They are an actual breed called Ragdoll, I'm sure you'll be able to find them somewhere. Good luck! I wouldn't buy them from a pet store, find a breeder online and be sure they are recognized by the local cat breeder groups. Little investigation and you'll find it Im sure.

@tdsviper Oei dan kom je toch niet in een goede petshop. Iedereen die een beetje op de hoogte is van dieren, en dan zeker katten en honden, zou een ragdoll moeten kennen. Maar inderdaad zoals kyzuli zegt, je kan beter een goede fokker zoeken. Dan ben je zeker van de stamboom en dat ze ingeënt zijn en krijg je een garantie. Ikzelf sta op de wachtlijst voor een Ragdoll katertje die op 22 april geboren word. Maar ik woon in België, dus misschien is het in Nederland anders?

Tis in NL meer een kwestie van geluk hebben dat je er één tegenkomt. Zijn vaak huishoudens die toevallig een nestje hebben. Niet echt fokkers die zich op 1 soort specialiseren. Tenminste daar ben ik achter gekomen. Maar misschien zoek ik wel niet goed genoeg ;)

Im getting a bicolor this week, about 1200$.

However you could get cheaper ones, but often the cheaper ones have some flaws, like white spots on the tail or the upside down V on the face isnt centered. Some breeders aren't serious and breed cats with flaws, you have to draw the line somewhere otherwise after a few generations you can't call the cat a ragdoll or whatever the breed was from the beginning. In order to keep a certain breed with stereotypical look and behaviour you must set standards

I myself have two ragdolls that were mistakenly listed as Siamese. We rescued ours from the Humane Society and only discovered that they were ragdolls after a rather quick tv episode on Animal Planet....that my mother ran across by accident. The most lovable cats you can ever find. (except for Cher, for some reason she likes to "pretend" that she doesn't need human contact...phsaw, if she didn't purr whenever you touched her when she was tired I would believe it...)

This is precious. I own two ragdolls. Both of which are TICA and CFA champions :). My mother had a successful breeding business for 5 years. Ragdolls are truly the greatest. I could never own another type of cat. Once you go Raggy, you never go back! :) Thanks for these great videos!

The story behind the Ragdoll breed...

Late 60's a woman named Ann Baker from Riverside, Ca. decided to breed a cat of her own creation. After many tries of breeding a samalayan (sp),siamese,persian and amut long haired white cat she came up with the ragdoll. She claimed they go limp becouse during the final breeding the mother was hit by a car,and filled with drugs for her broken leg. She believed the drugs that were given to the mother created the calm nature and the"limp" feature of the cat.

I've heard Ragdolls are about $500 in a pet store... The only problem is pet stores almost always use bad breeders because you can't meet the cattery owners. You get overbreeding which causes defects. My cats were $750 each but I visited the cattery and it was an extremely well kept home with about half of it devoted to the health and wellbeing of the cats. Any cattery home should be willing to show you everything.

I got my cats from the SPCA for about 20 years. Only when I could afford to buy from a reputable cattery did I purchase a ragdoll. I suggest that you save a few cats first, don't ever buy from a petstore -- you would create the need for another one to take it's place.

When you're ready to buy any purbread then look at it as a 20 year investment, because that's what it is! Then $1,500 for my two kittens doesn't seem so bad.

And I'll still rescue cats too! I just want to enjoy Ragdolls too.

When you are buying from a breeder and pay that much, are the cats fixed? or can you buy them to breed them. Just curious as I saw online exotic cats for sale..and maybe someday I might want to breed them..but no where does it say whether they are fixed or not?

Yeah, my kittens were fixed. Most of the breeders want to prevent "just anyone" from breeding ragdolls. The good ones are inspected, certified and have decades of show experience. I don't know how you break into the business. The few breeders I know sell unfixed cats only to licenced catteries and they are lots more because you are buying "rights" also. Sounds crazy but that's what I've seen so far.

It's true... and I cannot blame them... the Ragdoll breed is SO special they want to keep it as pure as possible. Again, I do not blame them. We got very lucky to get the Chocolate Lynx Ragdoll we have now, as that pattern and color combo is brutally rare.
