What I'm wondering is more, with the standard lens, and the settings that are available, is it possible to take shots that are off center in the way that this one is off center:
Hi LB, thanks for answering. I'm aware that it is possible to use a lens adapter and attach a macro lens to this model (Raynox makes compatible lenses), so the question is not related to something like that.
Sorry, messed up that last comment. What about taking pictures where the focal point is off-centre? I'm used to a D90 + macro lens setup and am aware the LX3 is very VERY different in its function set, still maybe there are tips, tricks, or angling techniques that would allow you to have the dog's nose be sharp with Mr. Potato all blurried out maybe?
@TyroAviatrix Hi, though the LX3 doesn't have a true macro lens like your D90, in the Macro mode the depth of field is very shallow so you should get the effect where the dogs nose is in focus and anything in front or behind is blurry. Because Mr. Potato Head is to the side, he'll still be in focus unless you angle the camera in such a way that makes him farther from the camera. This effect is most obvious with subjects that are really close (a couple inches) to the lens. I hope that helps.
Are we not allowed to add links?

@ilscuro Hi, You're right, this isn't a macro shot at all, but this is how I would set up the LX3 if I wanted to take a macro shot.
