i read in a book that they think the 3rd class passengers really were locked away. A survivor (one that was in the last boat pulling away from the sinking ship) once said that she remembers watching all the 3rd class passengers finally arriving on deck as the last boat rowed away. How cruel is that? 3rd class being treated no better than slaves.
The colllison may have been avoided had the orders been clearier (Murdoch ordered hard a starbard, in Tiller Orders that ment turn left, and Hitchens paniced and briefly turned right instead of left) the Califonian might have responded had the distress rockets been red instead of white and Titanic's crew had been firing them at 1 minute intervals (The signial for distress) instead of 4-8 minute intervals (which said we've suffered enginge trouble and warned ships to stay away)
Whoa. The man at 1:57 looks EXACTLY like the character "Mr. Andrews" in the 1997 movie! Played by the talented Victor Garber. Or is it just my imagination?
Small favor - Is it possible to do a 2nd one, or redo this one, and add the names of the people in the photos , if you have the info available, and their significance? Like: "2nd class passenger, Mr. ___, Liverpool, survived, or: Miss ______,steerage class, perished. These faces are haunting me now. I'd love to know more about them. Thank you for yr film.
Sadly Carpathia joined Titanic on the bottom in 1918, she was torpedoed and sunk by the U-55, whose captain was well known for being ruthless, he is known to have drowned survivors he rescued by confiscating their life jackets, shooting up their lifeboats and submerging beneath them, later the captain would go on to become a high ranking officer in the SS
There is a second element of tragedy to the story of Titanic, in that the same technology being used to create the beautiful liners of the Edwardian Period was also being used to create vast amounts of weapons and to fuel a naval arms race that would result in the outbreak of World War I two years later
So sorry to hear that James. My dad once met an elderly man who was on the Carpathia, the ship that received the distress signal and went to help Titanic.
I was watching Titanic's Last Moments a History Channel Expedition and it appears that she lost 70 feet of her bottom from keel to keel and that accounts for the water that Stokers said came up from the floor and the reason she cracked between the third and fourth funnels.
wait, why would you wanna celebrate your birthday the same day titanic sank? that's just beyond messed up. 1,500 people died that night and you want your birthday on the same day? alrighty then.
i find it really strange that in 2012 it will be Titanic's 100th anniversery & at the same time, people are saying the world will end in 2012.. I don't belive the end of the world is in 2012 but i find it weird that titanic's 100 anniversery is that same year :S
nice song =) like 1998mac4ever, I'm looking forward to 2012, Im gonna be 16 so im gonna stay awake till 2.20 on the 15th of April, to mark the 100th anniversary of titanic, I would be happy if more people joined in!
Titanic was a great ship! But it's sad when you think of all the people who died. But the Titanic is going to be an orange puddle soon... But when that day does come, i'll remeber her like she never sunk and she never became a puddle...
in my opinion...i think they should just let the ship rest...its not a toy or an experiment for us...its a graveyard. just leave it be and the dead-inhabitants to rest! who agrees?
@CharmedSW AMEN! The name of the man who found the Titanic escapes me at the moment, but I've read several times he later regretted finding the ship and going public with the news, for exactly the reason you wrote.
Robert Ballard found Titanic's wreck. However the law says Titanic's remains are in international waters and she's wasn't an active duty warship or troopship so there are no laws protecting the site from salvers. many wrecks are only granted any sort of protection if they were sunk during wartime while in military service or had active duty military personel on board at the time of the sinking
its so sad but in 2012 it will be titanic 100th anniversary. so sad when i learned about it when i was 8 i could not stop drawing titanic sinking and the lifeboats and people running. 5 stars *****
Titanic would have survived if it has top quality rivets, unfortunatley it the rivets at the bow section of where the iceberg opened the plates were only second best slag rivets, these were a weak blend of steels and sulphurs making them break under pressure, plus previously contributing the sinking was the weakened bulkhead of where a coal fire broke out a few days into the maiden voyage.
Titianc got 6 Ice Warnings before the collison. The 1st was given to the captain and posted at 9:00AM. The 2nd was given to Smith at 1:42PM and ignored at the instence of Ismay, and spent the rest of the day in Ismay's pocket, and shown to 1st class passengers before being posted at 7:00 PM. The 3rd was never delivered. The 4th was given directly to the officers but the captain was never informed due to him being at dinner with first class passengers. The 5th and 6th though were simply ignored
titanic was a bit unlucky from the start. when she was leaving the port she came close to colliding with another ship. then when she sailed past the new york the ropes that were keeping the new york down broke and was meters away from hitting titanic. the people that were onboard were probably think what a relief! but sadly they probably died
the large ship sinking to the silent freezing sea.how sad.R.I.P for all who had gone down with the ship.May all family members of them who died remember them.
She is 1st Class Passenger Loraine Allison. Sadly she was among the 1,523 who went down with the ship.
The story goes her mom refused to leave the ship without her baby brother, but her mom apparently didn't know that her brother and the children's nurse had already escaped in Lifeboat #11
um, that would be a stupid thing to do. the Titanic is too brittle to be raised. She's currently being eaten by microbes, and raising her would only speed her demise.
and the ship would break apart in a million pieces and what we do bring up would rot even faster from the sun after a century under water. however the ship is bound to break up in a few years. robert ballard compared titanic from 2005 from 1985. saying the bow was becoming wider, meaning she is steadily breaking up from old age as will many other famous liners that went down.
the titanic and those ships will not be there for long. robert ballard made a documentary that he noticed the bow of the titanic is much wider than she was 20 years ago when he discovered her, meaning she is eventually going to break apart from rotting under there for so long.

These souls that sailed on the Titantic along
the sea, sank into cold waters that sweep
them into Eternity, but no death or oceans
roar could keep them all from heavens door.
