Final Cut Express/ Pro: XML V.S. Log and Transfer Video Quality

When I attempt to use log and transfer it wont recognize my camera. I have a Canon Vixia HF R10 and I restart my computer and the whole bit... do you know any reason why?

When i go to log and transfer i dont see any videos at all. have my flip mino hd connected to my macbook pro. do u know why i dont see any videos? and what can i do about it?

im having problems with the log and transfer part, it's not reading the clips from my camera. What can i do? (sorry for my english)

@Gawo. Your english is perfect. And that is probably because you are using the wrong cable. Is your camera connected over a USB cable or a FireWire cable? If your camera uses a tape, you need to connect it over FireWire. If you have a file based camera with a internal hard drive, you need a USB cable (most likely). If this is not the answer to your question, it could be because your software does not support that camera. What is your camera model and what software are you using?

@MedievalHollywood Thanks for your answer. It was working fine untill one day it stoped reading the clips. I use a Canon HG20 Vixia (hard disc drive) and im using Final Cut Express

I apologize for the late response, but this usual means that the XML file can not find the original footage probably because the original footage might have been deleted or moved to a different hard drive. To reconnect the footage to the file in the timeline, select the clip that says "Media Offline", then go up to File>Reconnect Media. Make sure "Search Single Location" is NOT checked, then hit "Search". The file should come up. If not, then your out of luck. Hope this helps!

Hey, i came here because i'm new to final cut express. I too imported XML files into the FC to edit & i noticed my HD video has lines in it, especially seen when i see bright pink colors in the HD video. I seen the same lines, in your video at 3:45 min mark! What is this? Is it because it's not rendered yet? It's HD but with lines in it like your video appears here in FC Express. I thought i did something wrong when i converted the XML files...Is this normal while editing HD XML files in FCE?

@qqqTOXICqqq ok, i think i figured it out myself. It's "DEINTERLACE" that's causing the waves & lines. I think...

@qqqTOXICqqq. Haha. Yes, that's what I was gonna say. I'm sorry for the late response. And if deinterlacing won't work, you might want to look into either the capture settings on your camera, or how you export your videos. This video where you saw the lines, it was because the editing software I was using was super terrible, and so it was just how the video exported. :(

@CrowdCutta. Well, there is a ton of different possibilities for why. It could be your camera, the way you import all of your footage, how you export your footage, or the kind of DVD's your using. This is what I recommend: make sure you are using an HD camera, which you can get for fairly cheap. If your using tapes, use new tapes. Double check that you are importing at full resolution, and your exporting at the highest. Sorry I can't help more than this. There are too many areas to cover.

When I import footage from imovie the sound is just a bunch of beeps. What did I do wrong?

@richmarkham1.  Best guess is that you need to render the audio. To do this, select the audio and click "Command + R". This should solve your problem. I hope this helps!

when I start final cut express 4 it is automatically set to have a square canvas, and when I put my xml file in it makes it square and messes it up. how do I resize the canvas to 1920 by 1080 (full hd)? and also how do I keep those settings for all future projects?

what cam did you use for the video you were editing in this video the quality was great please tell me?

I was using a Sony HDR SR-12. I exported everything out of my editing software, Final Cut Pro, in 1920x1080. I think that they have a newer model than the SR-12, and that is called the Sony HDR-XR150.
