when I was a ballet student battling my weight, Lynne Seymour was my Idol. I know she struggled too. And how sublime she looks now, especially compared to the technically brittle dancers we have today...not that I dont love them (Im 50 years old and I want a body like Sylvie Guillem, how sick is that?), but it brings back a feeling of nostalgia to see this.. David Wall RIP....
The greatest dancer to come out of Canada/North America. She left RB because she did not, quote "...want to be f*****g fairy all my life". Robbed of Juliet premiere - HER role - for a quick killing at the BO with Fonteyn when Rudi defected. Today's dancers too busy showing off hper-extensions to invest the emotion needed in the role. Thank you for keeping this alive.
It was such a gift to have come across this video here. I have always admired Lynn Seymour since I saw her in " A Month in the Country". What a great dancer she was during her prime time. I was sad to hear about the episode concerning her not performing Juliet. Well, she will be performing here forever. Thanks for posting.
Macmillan created the Ballet with Lynne Seymour and Christopher Gable, so she knows the pasr better than anyone. But they were robbed of performing it first because of Nureyev and Fonteyn. The Royal Ballet humilioted them both by having them teach other dancers the part and gave them fourth casting, even though they were the pari Macmillan created the ballet with and for!
THank you so much for posting this small piece, I've always wanted to see her dance Juliet.
LOL if she really slept with her arm up like that it would have been too sore to move!!
She's not my favourite Juliet, but she is so much better for the role than Fonteyn. The Fonteyn/Nureyev performance is an embarrassment - he just poses and thinks about himself, and she's blank and boring.
Well - She will always be considered a rare gem in the ballet world...... her quality and line are out of this world. David Wall - yeah - brilliant dancer, brilliant partner...handsome as......whew! There are always reasons why dancers are world class - here are two examples!

I read her memoirs, years ago. She had an abortion to do this role, too--not only was the first cast given to Margot and Rudolf.

Have you read her autobiography? It's very good !

It is very sad to hear that happened. I read it was to start the production on a "good merit" with the critics.

Seymour gives Juliet a personality.
Wall's a bit forgettable though.

The dancing is wonderful-it enhances the music, and vice versa.
