@mraos23 Both of those are Chinese in origin. Zen is a school of Buddhism, first documented in the 7th century CE in China. The word Zen is from a different pronunciation of 禪 (Chán), pronounced that way in Cantonese, as well as Japanese. Bonsai similarly has its origins in China as Penjing- the word bonsai comes from the Chinese term penzai. Penjing was introduced to Japan sometime around the 6th century by Buddhist students and ambassadors returning from China with them as souvenirs.

However, just like with Go, Zen and Bonsai grew to be much more popular and advanced in Japan, their adoptive country rather than China where they originated. Buddhism itself originated in India where it is almost non-existent while it flourishes elsewhere... I'd argue that Zen and Bonsai are culturologicaly more Japanese than Chinese.
