It came out around the same time as Transformers as the "girl alternative", but there was no real point to the cartoons. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy them, but they're pretty mindless. It can be used for artistic purposes, such as people modifying their own toys, and the newer cartoons - which had gotten the attention of a lot more males as part of the audience - actually have some character to them and a real point.
