I think McCain is dead on here. If you think we will be in Iraq forever, you are right. We are still in South Korea and Germany for crying out loud.
Securing Strategic resources and confronting the evils which oppose Western Democracies is not a delusion. It is a reality that we've had for a long time. Polls don't mean shit. Results do. McCain is talking about results, I don't mean to be frank like this, I like you, but you are rooting for the enemy.
We HAD security there, but the Big Oil corporations were more interested in profits. Why have they been dragging their heels on alternative energy sources? Because the cost of our lousy foreign policy is externalized? We're spending 100B/Year in Iraq while the Oil companies are making record profits. You tell me who's getting screwed.
It is a reality that is continually reinforced by the already entrenched powers who want it this way. By powers who pass off the cost of foreign oil dependence to taxpayers. By powers who want to milk oil for all it's worth. By powers who do NOT want change from the status quo.
We must be careful to define who the enemy is because when we paint with broad strokes ( or bombs as the case may be ) we make enemies out of people who should be our friends. I think Iran and the US are ultimately destined to be friends if we can get past the bullshit. I think Iran also could prove to be a critical ally in stabilizing Iraq. Ultimately we can not continue to antagonize Iran and expect to get out of Iraq.
