I don;t know the first thing about cars, other than they cost money to run. I just got a flat battery recently and the mechanic replaced the battery ($140) then the new one went flat on me after 2 days. I guess I should have know that the alternator needed to be checked. So should the mech. Now I want to go apeshit on him for ripping me $140 for an unnecessary new battery, but i can;t say a thing because he is the only mech in my area!

@DannysCam Well I just got back from the mechs - and guess why my battey was being drained! I had turned on the interior lights to always-on - and i didn't notice, so overnight, they were drainign the batterry - no alternator problems - car is now up and running - hallelujah!

allright danny it probably has something to do with the idle mixture circuit, you are more than likely have to enrichen the circuit anotherwords add more fuel, You can do this easily with a vacuum guage after enrichening it you'll have to readjust your idle screw. just google how to adjust idle mixture on elderbrock carb you'll get it. It starts and idles on this circuit so it is more than likely the issue.

@downinaholega i did what the DVD said the one that came with the carb but.. i did lean it out alot so i would save fuel do you think that could be the problem?

@DannysCam if u lean it out a lot it will burn hotter and possibly overhead and burn exhaust valves

Hey Dan,if you still have drivability problems another thing to check for is the sock. Even though it has a mechanical fuel pump, the tubes that go into the fuel tank may still have one. It could be clogged or it can be sucked in if you also have a bigger carbureatuer. One trick I used was to remove that sock and just run with out it. You already have a fuel filter just befor the pump, just add another fuel filter in the fuel line somewhere. Granted, that is if you have one.

@suburbanator91 if i put to much gas into the truck it over flows i might need to check that out because what happens after it sits for 10mins after running is when i go to start it. it starts then dies real fast and then i have to choke and prime it

well danny usually if it looses prime the gas that is in the bowl normally leaks out like between the baseplate of the carb but unfortunantly you have a new carb and i doubt the baseplate is warped so i don't really know what to try. Maybe though it's not loosing prime but not pulling enough vaccuum to pull the fuel out of the bowl i really don't know but good luck. If the vaccum idead is correct you should have to choke it when it has this issue.

@downinaholega choking does help but what it does is start then it looses prime like a quick start but if i pump it some times i can get it on the first start
