  • I wonder if this song has something to do with Eddie and Patty's relationship? According to Valerie they use to hang out together quite often. That's when Mrs. Van Halen cheated on Eddie. I'm sure 6 strings played more than just a song with her! Hollywood!

  • That early-mid-1980s era was a great one.

    Electrix

  • I think Ed was doin her. He asked her to join Van Halen.

  • @MrUltraworld he asked mitch malloy to join van halen too . but i don't think he was doing him ; )

  • @Slitherous1 I forgot about that. If he wasn't drunk all the time, he may have made a good record with Gary Cherone. I saw them tour & Gary nailed the Roth & Hagar tunes. Now the news has died on the new record. I was 16 when the first VH record came out. It changed my life, I was just noodling around on guitar at the time. When I heard the record & saw them open for Sabbath, I got serious about paying in a hurry. It's a shame.

  • @MrUltraworld yep i saw the cherone concert too . out of all the vh albums its the only one i refuse to buy . i like cherone's voice in extreme but i did not think he fit with vh at all.

  • @Slitherous1 Like yourself I am a huge VH fan and I also refused to even listen to the Cherone c.d. and when friend convinced me many years after its release I realized that not only is it an exceptional but if u r a true Halen fan Alvin the chipmunk could sing for them and it will still be great, Eddie really wanted that c.d. to work and his playing is really amazing, exceptional, have a listen, songs to pay attention to are Once, Without you, and Josephina

  • @MrUltraworld I don't think he was banging her... he was just drunk as fuck. ;)

  • @DarthKazi LOL!

  • Scandal were a great band, thanks for this!

  • What's with the photos of squirrels and parrots?

  • Would loved to have heard it. Patty had the potential to be a great rock singer. Van Halen was also an incredible band. The combination would have been killer.

  • This was around the time that Eddie asked Patti to replace DLR in Van Halen. FACT. She, obviously, turned the offer down. She was the 1st person asked.

  • The parrots and all the pets are in our house and I put them there because it kind of looks like the bird is going too far, getting up in the cat's face, but it's really the other way around 'cuz the birds of my house rule the roost. The cats bow.

  • The chord progressions sounds like songs written by Ed in the Sammy era, so he must have really liked this tune.

  • @theShowStopper321 If I'm not mistaken Ed actually helped Scandal in the writing of the album and in particular this song. I searched the VH Encyclopedia though and zero information exists there about it. That's not common but.... Ed got no credit several times when he helped bands. Funny but he didn't care. I think today he'd be a little more bothered by those arrangements.

  • all scandal shit songs sound the same.

  • I wonder if Ed had a thing for Patty? Or maybe a lil' sumthin sumthin goin wit her?Reason I ask is he seriously considered her as a replacement for Dave in 85.I mean she was hot back then and he was huge in the music biz, very possible.

  • @TheZepmeister he was freinds with her husband john macenroe

  • What's with the M&Ms at 4:07??

  • @SBMPLYMA That's probably because their contract rider included no brown M&M's.

  • @JakeDavidLeeSeeBach That's freaky man. I was just listening to that. You haz the Power!!

  • @SBMPLYMA Thank you, but I wouldn't say that just grew up in Southern California and was a teenager when Van Halen hit the big rock scene, they just blew all kinds of music away. So I followed them for years and have been to 12 concerts, with the last being 2007 with Wolfgang, he is going to be special in the years to come. Can't wait for them to release their next album which they say will be out sometime in 2012. Just wish it was sooner. They say it is totally Vintage Van Halen take care....

  • @JakeDavidLeeSeeBach --- Van Halen's new album with Dave could single-handedly revive hard rock in America.......those Pasadena bad asses did it in the late 70's and they still got the magic to do it now.......God knows we need it with all the garbage being produced by the Ke$ha's and Creeper Biebers of the world

  • @Hunkola That is great, that there is another person such as yourself who knows what the music industry needs. Many rock god bands have made new music, but sice it isn't mainstream for the 3 piece suit Record industry clowns. They control all the pop garbage today. Who is listening to the garbage music today? Robots?

Can't wait for the new Van Halen album to come out.

  • @JakeDavidLeeSeeBach There was a lot of pop garbage around in the 60's and 70', too. When MTV started, they just videotaped the same quality of lame bands that had been on the top 40 charts in the 60's and 70's. For example, I Love the Beatles, but only their later stuff like Sgt. Pepper, Magical Mystery Tour, Abbey Road, Let It Be. And the beatles worst stuff destroys Patty Smyth or Madonna or Boy George or Madonna part 2 (lady gagg ga). We have to support the good music!

  • @Hunkola amen bro....

  • @Hunkola VANFUCKINGHALEN!!!!

  • What's with the f'ing parrot and dog?

  • @cuseskier You mean the parrots and the CATS? LOL There's no dog. They are mine. They are just cool as can be. 'Ever see cats shoved around by birds? Those are Siamese and Sphynx cats. The birds are a Jenday Conure and a Senegal Parrot. They are just always around, hearing my guitar, Ed's.... They love music.

  • @cuseskier

    Ha Ha

  • EVH just makes this song kick right of its "sing song" rythym. He saved this joint.

  • I remember an ad Eddie did with her future husband John McEnroe for i think kramer where mac's playing a guitar and Ed's playing a tennis racket. I think around 84 or 85

  • @enots67 Bro, the album version without him was just as good. Eddie is amazing, I won't deny that.

  • I would have loved if this had happened.

  • @ gossett2006: Thank you so much for adding this! I heard this live version of this great tune (and loved it!) a few years ago, but then whoever originally put it on YouTube removed it. It's great to hear it again!

  • Patty Smyth almost became the lead singer for Van Halen........I would have killed myself if that happened

  • So what was the final score or deciding factor is her not getting the gig? Was her score of trivia not high enough? Did she lose at playing Scrabble? How about she was too much of a woman and not a man? Let us know just what it was since you know just how close to "almost" becoming Van Halen's lead singer after David Lee Roth, thanks!

  • I used to have photos from this.

EVH played i think 2 songs with them.
