  • @RichardElden do your home work only 11billion a year comes from the exchequer and even at this it has been estimated with oil revenue the scots subsidize the rest of the uk by £800 a head per annam 2006 alone. but thats for by the by your original argument of voting labour to keep the torys out does not and never has worked for scotland

  • @RichardElden It's not labour or Liberal policy cut backs but new neo liberalism of old tory new right individualism ideas of " the big society" that are being implemented at westminster. and who is the prim-minister? a tory .It doesn't matter who scotland votes for in a westminster election its Englands leafy suburbs and the home counties that decide the government or have you forgotten the 80s when once again scotland voted Labour only to get Thatcher, and mass redundancy. SNP= vote counts

  • @RichardElden Oh yea billy connolly the man who compared scotland to bosnia? He knows all about racism all right

  • vote x2 snp

  • @RichardElden RichardElden Another Labour blogger with a fake profile.

  • @RichardElden, Utter bollocks, the guy is still under intensive nursing care and not out playing soccer with his mates or anything like that. Cancer patients respond very favourably to their envronment and mental stress. Remove stress and increase their composure and attention from family in a familiar setting and they will live a lot longer than someone stuck in a jail in cold Scotland far from home and their loved ones. Any proof he was involved anyway? I love Billy but he likes NuLiebore, : (

  • BBC Scotland's leaders debate shown earlier tonight.Alex salmond wone hands down.More applause's than all the other partys put together. Now thats what i call An *Affective S.N.P Government *Bring on May 5th

  • Does anyone know how independence is going to work? Support Iain Gray all the way a statesmen not a showman and a GENUINE man :)

  • @RichardElden Hahahahahahahahaha, you must be an even bigger numptie than the Gray Man. If he had a brain he would be dangerous. How about Gray and his bosses in London, B.Liar and Gorgon Broon trying to get Megrahi released in order to secure oil contracts in Libya? Ring any bells in your tiny mind? Sleazebag NuLiebore scum doing deals in the desert is OK but the Scottish government releasing him on compassionate grounds as provided under Scot's Law is wrong? You're off yer chump mate.

  • 'We've said we won't stand in the way of the people having a say.'

Hmmmm...yet you voted down the referendum the SNP brought forward. Hypocrites the bloody lot of them. SNP all the way to Independence.

  • Typical Newsnight Scotland, getting the spelling of his name wrong.

  • IAN GRAY--U R A JOKE.OHH FANCY A SUB.HA HA HA HUA HA

  • Fekin weakling! scared of protesters "quick hide in a subway" and as for walking the killing fields in cambodia BULL SHIT!!! I went to visit Auswitz once with school does that mean im awsome too! get a grip he probably went there years after on a political junket. Total Loser!!

  • Ian Gray is a public school tosspot. I vote Labour in Westminster elections to stop a Tory Government - Hah! However Scottish Labour is a joke. It is full of idiots like Gray. Salmond isn't perfect but the idea of this mealy-mouthed arse becoming First Minister is awful!

  • @densaner77 most of scotland had the same idea and voted overwhelmingly for labour and what did we get a tory government in all but name GOOD CALL.

  • @idrathernotthannever. Read my original comment again. In Westminster it is Labour or Tory. The SNP can't win in a westminster contest therefore unless you want a Tory government you should vote Labour. The fact that Labour's vote held up in Scotland in 2010 meant the tories did not win an overall majority. Labour lost seats in every electoral region of the UK apart from Scotland.

  • Uh Uh Uh Uh bi bi bi- aye - the next First Minister - ach - nae wey.

  • I met this fucker and I spat on his face. Shite like this are all too common in the home land.

  • I actually find youtube's policy that once a comment has received a certain number of negative votes, it will be hidden from view, with the phrase "This comment has received too many negative votes" taking its place quite annoying. (Although it can still be viewed, if the word "show" is clicked on). I think people should be allowed to vote down a comment, but I don't see the point in the exercise I just outlined. I know this isn't relevant to Iain Gray, but it's relevant to the comments.

  • @robsargent4 not relevant to ian gray?lol. Stick around untill after May 6th and see how much he gets voted down and then how much of him you'll be seeing of him in new labour ranks

  • @illinformedgeek good point.

  • What a thick labour plonker.

    Gray is a moron.

  • The guy is a bloody clown.Who would vote for that numpty?

  • The definition of a gibbering eejit

  • This is like a lion raping a sheep in a very bad way O-O

  • @99gracie How long did you last before he made you fall asleep?

  • @cameranzo1 somwere from 2 to 4 seconds it took 3 to 4 minutes for me to shoot him

  • What a Joke - he almost makes Jim Devine appear honest

  • i just met him

  • @99gracie ahaha 'lucky' you...

  • @99gracie I met him about a year ago. Unsurprisingly I wasn't impressed.

  • well i have to disagree...Ms Sturgeon tries to prevent a serial benefit fraudster from going to jail...lockerbie bomber allowed to go home on compassionate grounds...2 "open" prisons, the most absurd contradiction in terms where the most vile, violent and sexually violent predators are allowed to go free each day as long as they come back again...i grew up in a staunchly SNP household but i wouldnt ever support them again...soft on crime, support for offenders rights and to hell with the victims

  • @Stu71art If you genuinely think *any* political party in Scotland are particularly interested in protecting criminals, you're off your trolley.

  • @baronsarwarofgovan There again, the NuLiebore Mafia have been seen cosying up to known drug dealing gangsters at fund raising dinners. The Smurph had a particularly vile example at his fund raiser. I don't trust any politicians but NuLiebore are the lowest of the low.

  • newsnetscotland

  • "We won't stand in the way of people having a say". The Scots have got to wake up, this joke of a man is heading towards being the puppet FM of Scotland!

  • To think that this man could be first minister!! Frightening, absolutely frightening!!

Beggars belief that folk can vote for people like this to represent them in parliament.

  • Iain Gray is a traitor of hes own country , he just wants to be made a lord like mcconnell , lord gray lol haha Lord gay

  • Baw Jaws.

  • @ELOnut LOL now thats a good one!

  • this whole fiasco could have ended the independence debate for a generation but because Scottish Labour is Westminsters bitch, they had to pull the idea. Wendy had a brilliant plan to oust independence but Brown foiled her and she suffered as a result. Thank god Labour haven't got a clue

  • ian gray looks like a tramp and is thick with a twisted mouth.

  • @paul24111

Problem Iain has is he actually believes London's lie's .

5 mins with him on his own and like the snap of your

finger he'll be a parliamentary candidate for the SNP in Holyrood :)

That's not by force just by opining his eye's . If he chose to

he could be the leader of an Independent Labour party

in an Independent Scotland , the first labour prime minster for

Scotland and he would go down in history with great honor .

Instead he chooses to go down as a traitor to his country .

  • @1scot4scotland .i totaly agree with you.Ian gray is one big traitor to scotland.

Any time this guy opens his gub,he Nat bashes all the way.Gray and that lamont are two pathetic little people.

    Paul.

  • @1scot4scotland .i totaly agree with you.Ian gray is one big traitor to scotland.

Any time this guy opens his gub,he Nat bashes all the way.Gray and that lamont are two pathetic little people.

    Paul.

  • I'm so glad I found this again. Watched it on the night and had to watch it, as instructed by Gordon, on the i-player immediately afterwards....Jeremy Paxman? Pah!

  • Another London yes man....

  • A complete embarrassment for Labour! This is PROOF that there HAS too be a referendum next year.. I hope they don't try and block it.

  • No wonder he supported her idea. He ended up in her job !

  • Baw jaws gray and skeletor murphy are Scotlands beavis and butthead! HUH HUH HUH HUH HUH!!!!!

  • Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha.

I still find this idiot Gray funny.

    What a complete moron.

    Thicko Gray.

  • 4:40 - b.b..bb but.d...di....d b bbbbb GIGGITY GIGGITY GOO

  • just watched this dick on question time, he's full of crap like the rest of the LIEbour party

  • Unbelievable that this twat was once described as the 'George Clooney of NuLiebore in Scotland' Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

He looks more like PC Murdoch from Oor Wullie. Pity he isn't as bright as the old copper, (or a five watt bulb either). Poor old Elmer Fudd, always outwitted by that wascawy wabbit.

    Saor Alba

  • Pah! The Sentimental Nonsense Party can't even fullfill their manifesto, nothing but lies. Now the SNP want to release a convicted mass murderer because the poor man who murdered hundreds of people has cancer. Boo-hoo. Independance? More like a colony of the US, considering the SNP backtrack as soon as an American picks up the phone and tells them what to do. Spineless and decietful liars.

  • Don't let the door smack you on your inexplicably smug face on the way out, Iain. More unpopular than Wendy the big-mouthed crook! Next Liebour Leader please. "Bwing it on".

  • Comment removed

  • Elmer Fudd..today's yesterday man ..LOL..you almost feel sorry for the Fudd as Brewer exposes his sheeeyte ,reducing him to a gibbering boggle eyed ninny .

  • GIGGITY GIGGITY GIGGITY GOOOOOOOOOOO. No way this man can lead a country. He can't even lace Salmonds boots!!

  • The (Scottish?) Labour Party are finished in Holyrood - at least until they become independent of Westminster, which seems highly unlikely.

This man wants to be the next First Minister?! Not good enough for our country. It is a total embarrassment.

  • It just shows you how Unionists in Scotland are running about like headless chickens.

Here is Iain Gray touring the television studios in May 2008 to defend Wendy's "bwing it on" and affirm his support for an immediate independence referendum.

Yet nearly a year later, as party leader and Leader of the Opposition, he is - once again - AGAINST a referendum.

I mean, you really couldn't make it up.....

  • And this man wants to be our next First Minister! The man's a living joke! Is this really the best the Labour party can come up with?

  • Well I've found out in the past day that Iain Gray and his cronies are for suppression of free speech. I posted a comment mildly criticising Gray and how his cheap stunt of ripping up the SNP manifesto had backfired, and how he is ganging up with the Tories to keep the unfair council tax and this does nothing to help the people he claims to represent, and the £500million funding cut. My comment was deleted and then adding comments was disabled. Labour are totally anti free speech.

  • Absolutely mate, they want to spend thousands of millions on ID cards and BILLIONS on Trident replacement, but cannay build Schools, employ doctors, nurses and police.

Yet they want to claim for mortgages, telly's and even court fines for non payment of Council Tax on our money???

Saor Alba... the sooner the better!

  • Prime example of all that's wrong with Liebour. Never again will I make the mistake of giving my allegiance to a bunch of immature self centered control freaks running their OWN agenda.

  • A brainless idiot as with the resto f the idiot unionsts.

  • ian gray is clearly almost as big a wanker as wendy.

  • I cannot believe that this person, Iain Gray, is the best that Labour have got. If he dithers like that in front of Alex Salmond he will be made into mincemeat. Certainly not very impressive.

  • It's coincided with Mandelson's appointment.

It's probably to make Mandelson look better. They're both complete idiots who are in the job for a better wage and a bigger house.

Compared to the passionate Alex Salmond and Annabel Goldie, Iain Gray is downright pathetic.

  • Annabel Goldie certainly conducts herself well compared to Iain Gray or Wendy Alexander but no matter how she comes across her doctrines are still tory. We have a long memory of tory rule in Scotland and the UK. We will see a different side to her and her collegues once they are in power and as has been said below, probably enough to tip the balance in favour of independence in Scotland

  • I'm speaking of charisma rather than party policy.

  • The Boston strangler was charismatic

  • It's hard to believe that this man has just been elected as the new scottish labour leader!

He will never be able to take on Alex Salmond & the SNP!!!

  • Please tell me you're joking.

  • The reason that Scotland will vote yes in 2010 is because Scots do not want to live under Tory rule for another dozen years. Labour is set to suffer a massacre on the scale of 1997, and the Scots see it as well as everyone else.

Once David Cameron takes over, Scottish nationalism will easily break the 50% threshold.

If Labour had not been such a failure, nationalism wouldn't even be on the table. Shame on Gray for his lack of leadership, which only advances the cause of Scottish Nationalism.

  • baw face always looks spaced out!

  • Comment removed

  • will i need to stop supporting rangers if i vote snp

  • naw u can be a scottish hun , fly the saltire at ibrox ,no the union jerk :)

  • I'd never even heard of this guy before he stood for leader. And after watching this I don't think he'd be best for the job.

I'm not a Labour voter, but I'd prefer Cathy Jamieson as leader (but then again, I am a raging feminist)

  • Cathy Jamieson is too independant and too full of ideas for London, who are ultimately the people who determine the Labour leadership representative in Scotland.

  • What a complete numpty! He looks like a realistic choice for leader of the dying Labour Party

  • Hopefully This chump is Poor wee Wendys replacement!

  • Amazing !!! ...Scottish Independence NOW..

  • This stuff is pure gold!

Instead of giving us Only an Excuse and the like at Hogmany can the EBC put this on to give us all a laugh?

And the award for best television suicide goes to................

  • Iain Gray.

Labour. Tiny brain. Frightened rabbit. Mendacious. Does what his masters tell him. Iraq war supporter. Lobby fodder. Inarticulate.

Represents the best interests of Scotland? Don't think so! He treats the electorate as fools and yet is in the frame for the Scottish Labour leadership when Bendy Wendy finally goes!

Scottish Labour = Cesspool of Mediocrity

  • Gritted teeth, beads of sweat - Labour in deep keech!

    Independence YES.

  • The referendum bill was proposed by the Elected Scottish Government for 2010 and Labore simply want to try anything, even a u-turn to try and defeat it, not because of Scotland or what's best for its people, but simply it seems to get their own way! Playing games with peoples lives, that's Labore, while they spend your tax money with gay abandon and sign lucrative book deals! I'd respect them more if they honoured the 2010 plan and argued their case fairly, maybe they can't win that debate?

  • On one hand 'THEY' (Labore Unionists) say that its (Independence) a critical, potentially disastrous idea and yet they now want to 'RUSH' through a vote on the subject before the people of Scotland have had a proper debate on the issue...(even in spite of the fact their own dreamed up constitutional forum stated it was a non starter and not up for discussion)...Yes that's New Labore for you..."You can have your say as long as you say what we want you to"

  • one more reason for independence

  • I think thththat this guy either has a stutter or he has just been served his ass by Newsnight Scotland. Obrigado CyberNat2008.

  • I'm a young voter figuring out my political views. I've been watching loads of political programmes and reading a lot of newspapers to figure it all out for myself and this clip is the final nail in the labour coffin for me. There is no way I'm going to vote for labour in the next election, they are all over the place and irrational. I don't know what they stand for anymore apart from "anti-snp"

  • What a pathetic performance. This man isn't even community council material never mind government material. (With respect to community councilors everywhere, many of whom are great.)

Labour are finished, Wendy Alexander is out of control and Bean Brown is nuts.

    Independence? Bring it on.

  • Pathetic Gray. SNP all the way. Independence is coming.

  • Was he winking at me or was it just a nervous twitch?

  • What do ya think, he looks like the stupid little kid that doesn't get his own way; a bit like Wendy, both in the same club. May as well sink the whole party.

  • oh what a twat he is....

  • I'd feel sorry for iain gray watching this....If he want such a twat!

  • labour are exposed as liars, again and again

  • confusing stuff!

  • good work - i had this captured and ready to be uploaded. Saved me a job ;)

  • Ha ha ha ha.... class. Squirmy squirmy. lol
