  • I'm just running into acoustic bass, and fretless ones. I always liked fretless electrics better. They have a nicer sound, but bass is always nice. Curious about the coated strings. I don't play, but used t build speakers, and started coating paper cones, back in the 70's. I was just trying to add some mass to the cone, and improved the sound. Now most are coated. Supposed to cancel the Sound of the cone material itself, and wonder what it does for the strings? Curious what users say.

  • I always preferred the sound of a fretless electric bass guitars, and now I find acoustic ones, and a bit about why they sound different.

  • That has got to be one of the most emotionally-driven bass solo I've ever seen...

  • Too cool dude

  • Mein Lieber: Respekt! Einfach Musik für meine Bass-Ohren! :) Danke fürs Uploaden!

  • I doubt that bass is cheap. Good sounding acoustic basses are quite pricy. Thank you for sharing this tune. Excellent example of acoustic bass guitar!

    thanks in advance

  • @turkenbatse1

    Hi There,

these are the strings i use on this bass:

Eliixir Nanoweb Long Scasle for Acoustic bass

    (thomann.de/de/elixir_nanoweb_long_scale.htm)

They are coated. The sound is really great and because of the coating

    it lasts very long.

  • @hingstler it's a great sound, i guess you have alot of experience by playing like this? :P

  • sehr, sehr geil.

  • You look like you are about to blow a load.

  • Dude, this is sick. Love your "bass face" too, nothing cooler than someone who feels his own music

  • you have my deepest respect! love it!!! :D subbed

  • It sounds really great!!! You play very very cool!!!

    Love your bass though!!!

    Greetings from Russia!

  • WHOA this blew me back into the chair, so funky and awesome! this was just great:D

  • Fuckin great man

I've been thinking about getting an acoustic bass, instead of playing solely electric and this has definitely impacted my decision

    Slap on brother

  • this is a man of refinement, he probably owns a small plot of land in southern Wisconsin and regularly attends jazz and classical music performances.

  • @arbiqued

:-D Nearly...its not southern Wisconsin but Germany, Wevelinghoven

and besides jazz and classical music i love Tool, Living Color, Primus and other

    Oldie Bands like that!

Many thanks anyway! Especially for the refinement part! ;-)

  • @hingstler

Living colour, BUT THATS BLACK METAL D:

  • @hingstler

Neh just foolin', Living Colour is awesome! I really recommend Alice in Chains to you looking at your taste! Great band!

  • why use harley benton, harley bentons are the cheapest shit you can buy and quality is very bad

  • @tatunyman When you take the price in consideration, you can easily find something more expensive, but of worse quality.

  • @tatunyman lol that didn't make much sense - what I meant was, if you look at how cheap it is, it's not all that bad. And you can find many companies that make worse instruments, but more expensive.

  • how could anyone dislike this, damn it?!?!

  • great sound and style bear..very cool

    thanks

  • great sound and style bear..very cool

  • That's what you call .. slapping the bass :)

  • I want this bass. I'm thinking about replacing my Ibanez AEB10... but that was my first bass! :(

  • i just got wet... and im a man

  • Comment removed

  • I own an electric fretless bass and wasn't sure if i wanted to get a fretless acoustic because i thought it might sound quite muddy but the sound you've got there is brilliant. Is that flat wound strings on the bass or not?

  • alot of videos of people improvising are just annoying to watch and listen to but you actually make this enjoyable. have you ever considered playing double bass? you're very skilled with this fretless bass guitar.

  • Ist der Bass denn laut? Also kann man ihn bspw. neben ner Akustischen Gitarre und Percussions hören?

Achso und ist der Pickup zu gebrauchen?

  • I like your Groove. A bit unconventional playing, but you obviously march to the beat of your own (bass) drum. Keep on playing, Brother!

  • tasty tune =)

  • i have a lot of respect of playing fretless.

  • I just love the sound of acoustic fretless bass. Sounds a bit like double bass, but still it is the guitar. Nice playing!

  • minute 1 10 is so amazing lol

  • Aferin aslan parçası

  • Mr.Badass

  • Nice Bass! |m|

  • great job.

  • the musician do the music, not the instrument : good demonstration man !

  • You ROCK!

  • Thats a groove.

  • when i grow up, i wanna be u!!

  • Funky !!!!!!! :-)

  • Excellent!! great work sr!

  • you sir, have perfected the funk face

  • I think maybe half of these video are from me :P

  • Your moves while playing makes me smile. Good job Bassman!

  • Super!

  • Get funky!!

  • fuckin sick haha

  • Nice work

  • I wish I was one of the Monsters from Space Jam so that I could steal your talent :P

  • Hello,

    This sounds really great!

    Two questions:

    - I understand that this is a Harley Benton bass. Dit you make it fretless yourself? Or is it a standard Harley Benton bass.

    - What type of Elixer strings do you use?

    Thanks a lot,

    Bo

  • you should tab this haha its pretty funky

  • FUNKEH

    FUNKGAY

  • This is one of the videos that inspired me to purchase a bass.

  • frachieramarde!!

  • omg i love how the acustic bass sounds compared to the electric

  • where can i get one of that?

  • great!.

  • Great sound. Could you edit in the type of bass in your comments at the top please?

  • Play on brother!

  • I've never seen an acoustic bass before. Didn't even know you could get an acoustic bass :S

  • Are these strings nanoweb or polyweb?

  • Very cool grooving! The bassman fills the dancefloor :)

  • very nice cool bass sound

  • Very nice. I enjoyed that. Thank you.

  • Great flow, especially on a fretless.

  • lovely bassface. thanks for sharing

  • Nice !

  • ok i dont hope that is the best u can come with.

  • Hi, real nice groove here !

I might buy the same bass for a small project with a friend and I was wondering how the pickups are doing ? Thanks !

  • So are the fret markers along the top of the neck?

  • You're vibrato technique is still based on a fretted instrument (meaning you bend the strings as opposed to sliding up and down the next like you should on a fretless), but you aint bad. lol, nice playin man.

  • haha gotta love the facial expressions

  • you re damn good.............

  • Curious if you are getting fretboard wear with round strings. I have a Martin 5 string fretless and am seeing some grove marks on my board starting to appear after 3 years. I have been thinking about moving to flatwound strings to see if that will help.

  • i love the passion you put in your playing

  • Nice playing, man! I was really impressed with how good the pitch was when you when way up high on the neck.

  • Klasse !!

  • Right on!

  • vraiment la classe !!

  • two questions first are you running flatwounds? and second is it possible to do this to an acoustic guitar?

  • this is why i wanted a bass guitar lol great gig

  • Great playing mate that was easy to follow thanks for the unintentional lesson

  • Put alot of feeling in it that's awsome

  • i have some elixir strings that the guy in the shop gave me free with my bass, those bloody strings cost 64 €, i hope they are good XD

  • Love this... and keep coming back to it :)

The Harley Benton is hard to find in Canada, so I picked up a (Black) Dean Fretless Acoustic (easier to find in Canada)... I also put on some RotoSound AS88LD Black Nylon strings ... I now have an inexpensive instrument that sounds great, looks amazing and makes pros do a double take...I don't have your chops, but I have a lot of fun and It was your joy of playing that "sold" me. Thanks for inspiring me to take a risk. :)

  • Nice groove man!

  • Way to go man!!! Thats what i call FUNK!!!

  • u got a groove man ;)

  • +1 you rox!

  • With fretless guitars, would you have to put special strings on and is there any marks to show where the frets are?

  • not only the strings ! The player too ;)

  • What elixir strings are you using?

  • u are an awsum guitarist can u please tell me how to dese guitars work i mean when there r no frets ??? plz do reply btw ur guitaring is gr8

  • @rtunify its a bass not a guitar. guitar is very different that bass.

  • Hey i might actually buy a fretless one, but is there some dots or marks on the side of the fingerboard?

  • @samumaster well there are some fretless guitars where its painted on, if this helps you.

  • is that nice to play? many people have said that:

-it sounds awful and its not comfortable to play

-very bad neck and the signs are in the wrong spot

    is that true?

  • @samumaster

    No it is not. :-)

I like the sound and its very easy to play (slim comfortable neck)

and mine has the spots at the right place.

Considering what you have to pay for it the quality is unbeatable.

But thats only my opinion! If you have the chance test one!

  • @hingstler What would be the best quality for the money between this one, Ibanez AEB10E, Fender BG31 or Takamine EGB2S? I'm not sure if I want a fretted one because in a lot of the videos I've seen so far, there was horrible fret noise.

What are some other good price-value fretless basses for under $550 (€400)? My only electric bass is a Squier Precision and I've only been playing for a few months, so it definitely doesn't have to be the fanciest bass in the world.

  • @samumaster I think that what many mean is that after playing a thin electric bass for so long,an acoustic bass guitar is rather boxy. The edge digs into your right forearm. At least for me that is so.

  • Great jamming! Whats the difference between fretless and not fretless?

If its fretless how can you know which note is in which place?

I want to buy that same model but with frets... is it worth buying?

  • @samumaster

Hi Samimaster, I bought the same fretless model today at thomann ( I was there)

and I tried also the fretted models, they are all worth there pirce. Really. I compared them with the 200-400€ class and no bass came close to the sound and loudness (unplugged). Just a Takamine and a Cort bass were better but they both were at 600€.

The only bad thing about the fretted model is that there can come buzzy noise up when you play louder. But that's okay for 149€ !!

  • @CowboyFromFarbeyond Thanks for your reply!

Thats very good, I am definately buying the hbb30.

The buzzy noise doesn't matter, because im a beginner and it doesnt matter much if theres a little buzzy noise out there.

  • @samumaster

    Good choice! ;-)

  • Great Job.

I considered to buy this bass too

But I am afraid 'caus Harley Benton is often crappy.

You seems to be a professional.

What are your impression on this Bass?

    Is it plugged in?

Is it loud enought to play along an acoustic guitar? (without amp)

  • sexy... didn't know that bass was that good

  • Hallo, es ist so schön. Können Sie mir Methode auf Deutsch oder Englisch dazu empfelen? Danke!

  • This is awesome! How could anyone not like this? This grooves and slides and it's tight as shit...really cool. Makes me wanna go get one of those basses and jam in my yard in the sun with a cold beer ^^. 5/5 easy

  • awesome! keep up the good work! :D

  • F*CKING good song on a acoustic bass !

  • fretless bass = string bass? almost. perhaps one of those should be your next investment!

  • kinda one dimensional :(

  • Can this bass be slapped well?

  • Hi,

I just saw your videos and wanted to know how is the bass oldering?

Thank you for your cool video which made me wanted to own this bass (hbb30 nt fl right?).

  • @fredericseverino

Hi and thanx a lot! But what is oldering? And you are right. Its an hbb 30 nt fl!

  • @hingstler

I was thinking of "getting older". Does the bass still sounds ok?

  • @fredericseverino

    Ahh, now i know! :-)

No, it still sounds and looks like new after 2 1/2 years.

Some marks on the fretboard from the strings but nothing serious!

  • @hingstler marks on the fingerboard from the strings, are like trophies in the orchestra bass world. helps our basses sound even better.

  • @hingstler

do this marks cause any problems to the instrument? how can i maintain my own fretboard so it wont be ddestroyed?

  • @Pchychopathetic No more than an electric fretless bass.

  • @gebass6

I have an electric fretless, that's why i'm asking :P

  • @gebass6 electric basses have rounded edges while acoustics have square ones

  • @SprintingJesus Yes.Also the fact that practically all ABG's are four to five inches deep and electric basses are about an inch and a half deep.THAT is what I'm refering to.Yesterday I saw a Carvin AC40F in a pawnshop. Now that bass is not four inches deep. It's about two inches deep.If I had saw that bass two monts ago I would have snagged it!

  • whatta epic dance moves x)

  • where could you buy acoustic bass guitars, I wanna play acoustic but i haven't founded yet where i can buy it

  • @backspage there are a lot online, but i would check local used instrument stores. they always have good shit

  • :O really nice! you gota love the slide sound of the fretless bass :D

  • what bass is it?

  • Very nice! Great playing, great tone, and I love that bass! What kinda bass is it anyway?

  • could you tab this please?

  • @haggis325 I lawl'd.

  • Does elixir make acoustic bass guitar strings?

  • fucking great feeling :D

  • Hey man that was really cool! I use Elixirs on my Schecter Studio 5 fretless - have been playing it very frequently now for over 3 years and they haven't chewed up the neck at all. I was wondering how they would sound on an acoustic and now I know! keep up the good work.
