Toshiba already released a device that can support this, or if microsoft is planning on creating their own with the proper hardware specs and third party support this can be a good product. For the haters, it's called prototype! --for the software at least, for the hardware, a tegra 2 platform, usb, full connectivity (4G support) and an open device so we can dual boot with another OS, then it's a winner!

Ged rid of the idea to remove the screens, and I think this would be an easier device to use. It would make the entire device too clunky if its detachable and will lead to a lot of hardware problems.

This will probably be the closest that the courier will ever come to being a real device.

Now, about THEIR phone.

1) THERE were already windows mobile phones on the market before windows 7 phone was announced.

2) When they announced windows 7 phone, they had a REAL PHONE with a REAL UI to show. Not some PHOTOS of a mockup or sci-fi movie that shows features that Microsoft will NEVER deliver on.

3) Windows 7 Phone's interface is a LOT like the Zune HD, which is grounded in reality, unlike the fiction of the Courier.

Yes it also appears that the two screens are OQO model 2's that are connected to communicate between each other and some sensors in the spine. So the video may be from some point near 2007. This being mostly software on top of existing hardware was likely to be the initial hardware demo and pitch for the idea to get more funding into creating a more dedicated hardware mock up. which probably looks something closer to the Courier videos. The video is likely the commercial goal of the project.

This video is old, Project CODEX has been going on since 2006. This is the hardware prototype. If you have seen the Microsoft Courier video's those are testing the consumer market response to something like this. Judging by the buzz that has been going around, something like this should become commercially available within the year.
