Dear MomandEmily, I'm wondering: is there a function or service of YouTube that screens out comments that no one needs to make, much less view? There are some horrific things being said in your comment stream! I can understand if you don't want to look at htem or acknowledge them--they don't deserve your time--but for the rest of us who do wish you well, it is just painful to wade through this--I'm going to call it what it is--shit! and depending on how old she is and what state you live in (not asking for that info) you might want to try vocational rehab. I have a daughter who is now 30 years old with Asperger's Syndrome and she had a lot put into her IEP. It's a lot of work, but well worth the effort. Best of everything to both of you!!!!!

I volunteer @ a paediatrics center for special kids and most of them have down syndrome; they light up my day & make believe a little more because they are all so happy.

Obviously her art is what comes from her heart and means a lot to her. It is simplistic and pure and free of abstract forms, but would it hurt her family to eventually have her take a little instruction from a professional fine artist so she can get an idea of how to more fully convey her artistic thoughts in a more evolved way. She may have downs S, but I think she could go way beyond the grade 1 or 2 level. I would like to see what she could do if she had 6 months of art school. She needs it.
@tubermier I would love for her to have art lessons but is practically impossible to do , I'm widowed, we have very little income and live in a very small town where there is no one near to teach her lessons. I do the best I can showing her what I know. :)

I have major empathy for the child. But lets keep it real, the only reason the kid gets the amount of credit recieved is that she is disabled by downsyndrome.

I am not saying that she has no right to paint, she has all the right in the world to do whatever she dreams that is fathomable. But the fact of the matter is, there are tons of artists in this world so many that God himself has trouble comprehending the number. Many of the artists are amateurs that aspire to become proffesional. I can almost guartanty you that most of the aspiring artists (Im not trying to be harsh) have much more complex masterful paintings that live a very poor life cntd.
Now, why if there are so many people in this world who are poor good artists do you think that your daughter sells the paintings she does? The reason is because of the simple little extra chromosome in work. I hope you can take this in, Im trying to be frank please respond if you disagree with my reply.
@StreetFightBroadcast Think outside the box, because someone can paint a REALLY GOOD picture does that really make them an artist? or is it the colors, and brush strokes from a little girl that has endured stares, health issues, teasing, and knows she's different and yet loves everyone unconditionally, with a pure heart. and tries to express that when she paints or draws? THAT my friend is an artist.
No judging by your pictures that is doodling, I have the same calibre of art work on my homework that I turn into my school. The art she draws can be found on any wall in a 1st grade classroom; stick figures with various colors surrounding, some paintings have very little effort just looks like a gob of paint was spread on a canvas and a heart in the center. On "America's Purple Heart" you can see the lines are encoherently horizontal with very little effort to actually include 50 stars.
Looking further into the pictures I can tell even more how this "art" is unoriginal.
Rainbows exist as main perspective in 3 of her paintings. In 6 of her paintings there are suns in frame. 6 of the paintings have a heart in the middle from what I can tell (it is hard to tell from the poor craftmanship).
Now on examination all of the paintings are extremely bland each is very predictable about either hearts or skies. This abomination of art is not deserving of the title of "made by an artist

I used to spend each day of my grade 8 year eating lunch with the down's syndrome children, and other challenged children. I miss talking with them. The smile that lit their faces when a non-down's person talked to them was priceless. Emily sweetheart you are so beautiful and I wish you all the joy in the world. Hello Emily! I was moved to tears after seeing "Sunshine & Rainbow" as the first painting up in this slideshow! You have no idea how much that painting has blessed me and my family! My husband has stated over and over again that it is his favorite Fathers Day present ever! It is truly cherished in our house and is always the first item up whenever we move! I have major empathy for the child. But lets keep it real, the only reason the kid gets the amount of credit recieved is that she is disabled by downsyndrome.

@StreetFightBroadcast, I guess you miss the point.. She has just as much right as ANYONE to paint and want to sell her artwork, no one twists your arm to purchase or view this video. Honestly makes me wonder who's really the one with the handicapp.

I am not saying that she has no right to paint, she has all the right in the world to do whatever she dreams that is fathomable. But the fact of the matter is, there are tons of artists in this world so many that God himself has trouble comprehending the number. Many of the artists are amateurs that aspire to become proffesional. I can almost guartanty you that most of the aspiring artists (Im not trying to be harsh) have much more complex masterful paintings that live a very poor life cntd.

Now, why if there are so many people in this world who are poor good artists do you think that your daughter sells the paintings she does? The reason is because of the simple little extra chromosome in work. I hope you can take this in, Im trying to be frank please respond if you disagree with my reply.

@StreetFightBroadcast Think outside the box, because someone can paint a REALLY GOOD picture does that really make them an artist? or is it the colors, and brush strokes from a little girl that has endured stares, health issues, teasing, and knows she's different and yet loves everyone unconditionally, with a pure heart. and tries to express that when she paints or draws? THAT my friend is an artist.

No judging by your pictures that is doodling, I have the same calibre of art work on my homework that I turn into my school. The art she draws can be found on any wall in a 1st grade classroom; stick figures with various colors surrounding, some paintings have very little effort just looks like a gob of paint was spread on a canvas and a heart in the center. On "America's Purple Heart" you can see the lines are encoherently horizontal with very little effort to actually include 50 stars.

Looking further into the pictures I can tell even more how this "art" is unoriginal.
Rainbows exist as main perspective in 3 of her paintings. In 6 of her paintings there are suns in frame. 6 of the paintings have a heart in the middle from what I can tell (it is hard to tell from the poor craftmanship).
Now on examination all of the paintings are extremely bland each is very predictable about either hearts or skies. This abomination of art is not deserving of the title of "made by an artist

This woman posted this video to show the joy and love that people with Down Syndrome spread. Her daughter obviously means the world to her, and just because YOU don't see it as art, doesn't mean. It doesn't matter what the picture looks like, it's the feelings it expresses.

I used to spend each day of my grade 8 year eating lunch with the down's syndrome children, and other challenged children. I miss talking with them. The smile that lit their faces when a non-down's person talked to them was priceless. Emily sweetheart you are so beautiful and I wish you all the joy in the world. Her world is bright,colourful & filled with happy moments, this could apply to any childs drawings. Emily has learning difficulties & has no idea,understanding, or concept of the true world around her...only the one she`s been allowed to be exsposed 2, by her parents.

Hello Emily! I was moved to tears after seeing "Sunshine & Rainbow" as the first painting up in this slideshow! You have no idea how much that painting has blessed me and my family! My husband has stated over and over again that it is his favorite Fathers Day present ever! It is truly cherished in our house and is always the first item up whenever we move! Yes she does have Down Syndrome. If you have been around a Down's child you can always tell even if they do not have very severe Down's features like Emily here.
I have a sister with DS, she is going to be 23 years old this Dec.
It is a pity that everyone does not have the pleasure of being a part of a DS persons life. They are pure joy to be around.
