@fortworthskaters42 Yes they are. You can read into the laws on it if you want just look up something like Texas knife laws or or weapon laws. I'm sure it would be fine to have as long as you are just keeping it around the house or just keeping it hidden away and don't bring it out to show it off to friends or something.

@fortworthskaters42 You can own any kind of questionable knife (switchblade, butterfly, etc.) in Texas. However, you can ONLY have them legally as "relics/curios" (not as weapons), and they must stay in your home. In terms of what you can legally carry for self-defense or whatever, AS FAR AS I COULD FIND the laws are the same as in this video. So, if the knife is "assist-open" (like the last 3 in this video) then you carry them, as long as they are under 5.5 inches. Hope that helped.

I was charged with a misdemeanor ticket in Los Angeles, CA today because I was carrying a kershaw 1660 pocket knife. I explained to the office the difference between a switch-blade and assited opening yet I still received a ticket marked a misdemeanor. What evidence should i present in court to judge that would dismiss my case? and Do you think the case will be a DA reject?

@bluejay02920 I didnt see a lawyer about it. Basically I went to local PD and spoke with officer in charge of filing the ticket. The officer who had knowledge of the law agreed that its not a switchblade. I was told to pick up my blade at the evidence room. Absolutely no money was spend. It was just a matter of knowledge.

You got the law wrong for California, it's prefactly legal to OWN a switchblade or blalisong(butterfly knife) but to carry it with you it needs to have a 2 inch blade

@vinejuli311 sometimes the law percives it as a gravity knife, mainly the definitian of the Balisong is "a knife that can be split down the middle to reveal the blade, called butterfly knife or balisong" i have no idea why these are illigal, but living in the uk and having parents that are law enforcement officers really puts a dampener on things
