there's this book, beginning python (pdf 666 pages) - called 'Dive into python - from novice to professional' or something..

chapter 14 focusses on socket programming, in there you'll be able to pick it up pretty fast :)

and then through the website - tcpipguide com/free/t_toc -

you'll get all the information possible on network programming / hacking / security? (i'd choose hacking.. :D )

@AiDz0r well socket programing is how you do network programing so if you wanted to make computer's talk locally or even remotely you can do so.
