Presentation is important to those who see things in terms of art. Alice songs(the older ones, at least) are some of the darkest things ever written. I want to hear it register in Duvall's voice and see it in his actions. I want to know that he GETS what the songs are about.

There was never any doubt that Layne lived and breathed those songs when he performed. Most artists I've seen cover Alice seem to get it, too. But not Willy. He's too busy jumping around like Peter Pan.

And BTW dickviolets, Layne wasn't a "legendary, influential" vocalist when he began his career. It takes major balls for Jerry to choose someone who isn't already a "made man" in the music scene. That's on purpose, in case you're too stupid to get it. It would have been a lame cop-out to pick some already famous, recognizeable singer to replace Layne. I'm sure YOU would have done that, so AIC would sound like Pantera, or Soundgarden, or Stone Sour, or STP, depending on which "guest" you picked.

Personally i don't think the band is even really concerned with the sales, they have had so many platinum albums and sell out venues that they are making the music for themselves. They are musicians, they write music to express themselves for themselves they just care if they like the music.

the band was different since mike starr left the group it is just hard to tell if it was due to mike inez's influence or just the fact that one album was mostly acoustic and the other was their "best-produced" album and most mature sounding, which had alot to do with the less metalic sounding riffs, which could have been jerry's call.

But don't even pretend like the band will be the same, it won't be. I'm not saying it will be better or worse, but swapping a lead singer is a durastic change.
