The Bugatti website says 1001ps, not horsepower. PS is the European equivalent of horsepower, which is less than American horsepower. In American horsepower (HP) the car is 987hp.

this guy has got his figures wrong...how can a 1001 horsepower veyron do only 217....James May did a straight speed test and this thing went up till 254 mph...but i guess he's talking about what it can do on real roads
its because its safe, ok safer that 250+ without a roof, would be painfull for your head, just imagine the wind while driving 217, but 253 open its just crazy, and i think it could not reach the full 253mph with its hardtop down because of the aerosynamics
217 without the roof. When the Targa roof panel is in place the Aero mode can be engaged which when the key is put in a special slot on the floor, lowers the car and raises the big rear wing. allowing the Veyron GS to get up to it's top speed of 253mph, only 1mph slower than the coupe.
if you pay attention, you notice he says 217 with the roof off. when the roof is off you can´t go into aero mode using the speed key, so the top speed is limited to 217 mph.

Audi's are much better designed and, on average, are liked a lot more than the LEDs on the Grand Sport. Audi's LEDs look flat out mean, on the Bugatti it just looks like they put them on it for the sake of having LEDs on it.

I drove in S-Class taxi 2002 year model with 670.000 km, I ased the taxi-driver, wow, in 8 years you made 670.000km??? He said no, I bought it with 200.000 km in 2005, i made 470.000 in 5 years.

Call that bullshit all you want, that is your problem. Cars and Drivers, local Automobile here in Vancouver mentioned 1001 SAE hp. I have actually been on Veyron (US version has 280 mph speed) and talked with one of Bugatti representatives. It is no secret manufacturers made North American version sightly more powerful than either Japanese or European version.

this guy has got his figures wrong...how can a 1001 horsepower veyron do only 217....James May did a straight speed test and this thing went up till 254 mph...but i guess he's talking about what it can do on real roads

its because its safe, ok safer that 250+ without a roof, would be painfull for your head, just imagine the wind while driving 217, but 253 open its just crazy, and i think it could not reach the full 253mph with its hardtop down because of the aerosynamics

217 without the roof. When the Targa roof panel is in place the Aero mode can be engaged which when the key is put in a special slot on the floor, lowers the car and raises the big rear wing. allowing the Veyron GS to get up to it's top speed of 253mph, only 1mph slower than the coupe.

if you pay attention, you notice he says 217 with the roof off. when the roof is off you can´t go into aero mode using the speed key, so the top speed is limited to 217 mph.

Audi's are much better designed and, on average, are liked a lot more than the LEDs on the Grand Sport. Audi's LEDs look flat out mean, on the Bugatti it just looks like they put them on it for the sake of having LEDs on it.

If I wanted the full size sedans, I'd go for Lexus LS, Hyundai Equus and Infiniti M, the cars that were made for the consumers. I drove in S-Class taxi 2002 year model with 670.000 km, I ased the taxi-driver, wow, in 8 years you made 670.000km??? He said no, I bought it with 200.000 km in 2005, i made 470.000 in 5 years.
I never so a Lexus with 300.000+ km, so stop whining. Mercedes-Benz is the best car in it class, the S-Class. Of course, Bentley and Rolls are better (still German), but more hours goes into making one, about 3000 hours more go into making Bentley Azure than S-Class Mercedes.

second: the fact that Taxi drivers buy Mercedes (more expensive than Lexus) is because of reliability. as you may know Taxi drivers earn their money by driving, so they have to depend on a very reliable car, because if the car is on service often, they cannot drive it, therefore they cannot make any money.

politicians are not the best test whether the car is reliable, they just go from point A to B with the car never more than 50km (this is the protocol of many governments, embassies, ngos, etc... due to security reasons, and simply due to meeting deadlines)
The fact that taxi drivers buy Mercedes over Lexus or BMW (Audi is catching up in this segment though) is the strongest argument for car's reliability.
