It is because Subbulaxshmi mata that me Sri Vaishnava and brought me to Sri Venkateshwara! I use to listen to Her Venkatesha Subrabatam very morning when I was with I.S.K.O.N ashram in L.A. when I was new bhakta. I learned alot about how to intone Sanskrit mantras from Her.

I am indebted to Her for so much of my Spiritual life right now. It is because of Her I now go to Sri Sampradaya temple in Malibu. Namaskar and Love. adiyen, Govinda Ramanuja dasa/ Santa Monica, Ca. usa.

Excellent performance. This kutcheri was at Thiruvaiyaru, I do not know the exact year, and was broadcast by Tiruchi AIR. My brother who is no more had taped the whole kutcheri and I still have the cassette. Vijaya

Vijaya, I too have a 1978 Kutcheri recording which was given to me by my mama; But I will check whether it has a Kalyani song; As far as I remember, it did not have one; I am now coverting my Amma's and mine old radio recordings - MLV, GNB, Semmangudi etc. - to an MP3 format from tapes, both cassettes and reel-to-reel. I will try to share those.

The violinist makes a mistake at around 5.0 mins of the alapana. MS sings upper G, and the violinist plays lower note. MS gives her a look and a smile and continues with Upper G. That is professionalism.

This was at the Thyagaraja Aradhana at Tiruvaiyaru in 1985 or 86 if I am not mistaken. MS is accompanied by her daughter Radha on vocal,Dwaram on violin and Prasad on Mridangam. On the stage are Anandhi,Gowri Ramnarayan on Tambura.One can see Guruvayur Dorai (who accompanied MS IN CARNEGIE HALL)and Madurai Somu behind. Semmangudi is on stage though a bit uncomfortable due to space constraints ! One can see him as soon as Dwaram starts playing.Sivasankari is in the audience

She is perhaps the most deserving recipient of the Bharat Ratna.

what I enjoy is that she doesnt overdo it - she had such great control of breath, raga and feeling it is unbeleivable. so humble and so great a musician is hard to find. she has set a new pinnacle in music.
