  • I’ve been looking into making my own radio because most of today’s radios are made with answering machine speakers. I’ve learned a lot about speakers and sound and the different theories behind them. Looking at your setup, I think your boxes would sound a lot nicer if you lined the inside with acoustical foam and covered all the holes. You would also need to make sure no air is escaping from where the speakers meet the box with black caulk or a bead of glue stick. Nice job.

  • Thanks for the granite on the top idea! Totally using it on the pair i'm making for the living room :)

  • damn. towers are cool.

  • good music ;)

  • dude really only one speaker on the wood U SHOULD HAVE PUT THE BLUE 6X9 IN THE FRONT FOR 2 WAY WELL 4 WAY SINCE THERES A TWETER

  • what is music.

  • they look like nice boxes but why did you go for just 6x9s? i would have got hold of an 8" or 10" sub, made one box and added two of those 6x9s for the mids and highs. getting an amp to power that would not be hard.

  • so you are adding loads of noise with that fan, the configuration of the speakers doesnt make for the best sound quality. i like your originality but i would have made them different!

  • Would you be able to run this of lets say a motorcycle radio????

  • fusions are better but their like 60 bucs

  • qtf there magnets are so small get some fusion ones they move more

  • u need a amp for those 6x9 the lil 50x4 w cant give em any power ... and those 6x9 are about 60 wrms so they are crappy.... make a port :D

  • @thesten99 Ya I agree, I would like to amplify them however it would be a bit tricky to conceal seeing as how these are functional pieces of furniture and I wouldn't want to pervert there stunning features. They are screaming loud anyways, but still, could always be louder am i right?

  • @camsopaint171 port the back

  • Is it me or do the speakers sound weak?

  • @bloodhoun138 cant really judge a speaker through a video, take my word, they are very loud, with great clarity, could be improved with an amp though!

  • @camsopaint171 thats one true statement people coming on youtube watching a video of someones stereo or speakers or what ever then coming out saying that looks shit and sounds shitter its easy to judge a book by its cover looks can be deceiving

  • @WIKTOR75 totally agree mate

  • they look good bro, hopefully they sound good too

  • I made up some using 6x9's - two in series = 8ohms. I used my home receiver to power them. They were outside, under the eaves. They worked great for several years.. then I gave them away when we moved.

Also made another pair using 4 6" full range + a 10" passive radiator. I made the boxes 48" tall, 24" wide & 6" deep. Wall huggers. They were excellent..!! Gave them to my son.

  • what did you hook your head unit up to as i am trying to do the same thing and make a system but i dont no anything about the wiringor what i need? so could u tell me what you used plz???

  • Comment removed

  • Just make sure that nobody places a glass or a beverage on top of the stereo deck. If it spills well...you know.

  • thats sick bro. hows the bass response on that?

  • that sounds shit

  • hey its ronald mc donald

  • i like it!!

  • would you be able to run just the deck of a computer cpu without wrecking the cpu?

  • and what will you do with that hahahahaah thats terrible

  • and will you do with that hahahahaah thats terrible

  • When the two are together it looks like an angry asian man.

  • nice speaker stand

  • how much was the power supply and where did you get it

  • it would be awesome if u had mini subs at the bottom of the boxes, awesome idea man, ill prob do that when i take the old after market speakers out of my car. thumbs up man

  • i like this setup man sounds good too i personally have 2 car radios in my room & a 13.1 surround sound lol 2 computer speakers 4 6x9's 2 6.5's 2 8 inch subs for mids a 12 inch sub for lows & 2 1 inch tweeters

  • where did you get the terminals to connect the speaker wire to an amp, im building some boxes but cant find any terminals?

  • how did you get the headunit to stay in it without falling out because i wna do a build like this but im not sure how to keep it from falling out

  • lol cant afford a car? lol

  • how did you hook up 4 6 by 9s to the radio please helppppp

  • @megaej123

    dude theres multi channel amps

  • how did you hook up 4 to the radio pleaseee help

  • you did such a good work. These speakerboxes are awesome but why you didn't buy some hifi quality stuff and but in those boxes?

  • nicly done

  • nice!

  • you sould hook up some bad ass subs to it and it would be perfect

  • thats so sick, amazing idea and fantastic work, besides that they play loud, hows the bass? and what do you use to power them?

  • Bass is pretty good for 6x9, you have to remember that they aren't in an enclosed space like a car, rather in a house with lots of open room, so they aren't going to produce bass like a big 10, 12, or 15 inch sub, but they certainly sound great and do get very loud while retaining high quality sound. They are powered with a "power rectifier" by "pyramid."

  • Nice one!

  • noooooo! bad, you must put only speakers in front of box, and makeing fourseparate boxes for the speakers. (sorry, I'm italian and my English is very bad.)

  • good job!

  • What are you using to power your headunit?

  • Electricity, LOL

  • @camsopaint171 i mean, what sort of electrical appliance did u use to connect the headunit to an electric output? haha, obviously its electricity haha, u probabaly got quite a laugh out of that one

  • a power rectifier, by Pyramid! And ya I did get quite a laugh1

  • @camsopaint171 Alright, thanks for the help lol

  • it would sound much better without the fan and holes but its still cool

  • Sweet boxes man! Thats awesome!

  • isent it car speakers

  • does having all the speakers sound awesome i have a dodge 2005 and i got some like theese but three way instead i talked to guy at best buy do u think i would need to get a sub he said that i dont need to that its kinda of pointless becuase he said it sounds like there is a sub all ready like the bass can anyone please tell me whta they think soon?

  • I have 2 vibe 6x9's on my parcel shelf. Running off the headunit they had goot treble but the car sounded like it didn't have a sub (That is when i turn my subs off)...

After my mate gave me some cheapo 250watt dual channel amp the 6x9's now kick like there's a sub... Ok your not going to be getting massive bass but theres enough there to completemnt the mid range and treble perfectly.

  • Lol, if you want bass then you absolutely should get a sub, or better yet subs, plural. Sure your 6 x 9 will have better bass than any other shaped car speakers, of course taking the brand of speaker into account, but if you want real bass then you need subs, which also means you need an amp or amps and possibly a capacitor, and you'll def need an aftermarket tuner if you want it all to sound as best as possible. I have 2 12 inch Kickers (CVR), and they sound great. Kicker is by far my fav.

  • @camsopaint171 your a tool get Fi BTL Car audio, or DB Drive 18 inch subs

  • @dirtysactrin1234 dude u aint anybody unless u got subs just look at me i started a buisness out of it..im always buisy

  • how much is that deck?

  • I cant remember, maybe $75 on Ebay!

  • @ankneyz dude that's a Ripstick...they sell them at Wal-mart for $100.00

  • dude thats freaking bad ass!!!! i want one but wit some boston acoustic speakers.

  • I Think this DESIGN gives the best sound ever

  • amazing boxes..... id say wire them 8ohm put the deck in your car and get a good reciever .... polk audio momos would be pretty cool for those cabs... but that is what rocks about those you can upgrade later.. cabs are sweet

  • Danm boy Thats goood work

    one thing tho

Shame to put those Speakers in that box ;/

the box is so cool. but the speakers dosed match you should have considern some 6,5" "round" speakers

  • can i ask what the fuck wher you thinking?

  • nice boxes, nice idea, but a head unit will at best put out 20w rms per channel, so u r underpowering your 6x9s. thrashing them with not enuf power is what wrecks speakers. if u put a 4 chan amp onto them it would be superb. Nice boxes and idean tho!

  • Err, "SuperAudioboy" thats not true at all. Explain to me how that works out? So UNDERPOWERING them will overheat the voice coil and fry/melt the copper wire ruining the speaker? Doesn't sound right. Lol. Don't give people advice if you don't know your facts straight, you can really screw up some people.

  • hiya masterwolf1212, what i meant was that when an amplifier is pushed to distortion, the voltage it puts out goes up a lot and its the voltage that frys thevoice coil. it makes speakers clip which is damaging. My friend is an audio engineer and thats where i learnt that for myself. soz 4 the confusion. Its not the audio RMS power, but the voltage in distortion that is damaging.

  • Ah, thats not what you really said. But gotcha. ;) And I already knew what clipping is, it is a square wave which is bad for voice coils, and yeah, caused by voltage damage. My dad is an audio engineer, and so am I, I know my stuff. :)

  • Comment removed

  • @masterwolf1212 actually the square wave birngs the cone up then it stops...if the cone is not moving its not cooling...then comes back down the wave and stops again....again if the cone is not moving its not cooling the voice coil...but the main point of this comment is that there are points where the cone is not moving and there is still power going to the voice coil which causes it to overheat....remember kiddies clipping ur system is gay and will promptly kill ur setup

  • Well... not to diss ya. But he is right in some way.

It will overheat the voice coil because the speaker gets out of control because you dont have enough watts to drive the speaker to its max.

  • Thats BS. Makes no sense. Absolutely. I know ALOT of about audio. My dad is an engineer, I have built serveral speaker DRIVERS, not JUST the boxes. I know all about how speakers work, all about impeadence, all about that shit. The only way a speaker CAN be pushed to its max is to put the max power in. The amount of power you put in, the amount of force the coil puts out, and the amount the speaker moves. Dont correct me if u dont know shit, because that was 110% wrong. Where in the worlduheardat

  • its called a deck penis fart and there is no way there 260 each

  • its pioneer lol.

obs they say there "260 each"

    but there prob 40 - 50rms

  • deck, headunit, radio, etc...

  • its sounds good and good job on the speaker box it's a good size for them

6x9 are the same like a inch speaker only oval

i just dont get it why you made fans in it it's kinda useles

btw port the box with some bass tubes

and it's kinda bullshit that these speakers can only be used in a car or small space

  • Thats awesome dude. Id pay for those haha

  • Car speakers are made for small spaces where there is adequate back pressure -- not much air volume for pressure waves to propagate through. I would not have gone to the trouble of building such elaborate, bulky boxes for car speakers and then put them in an air volume much bigger than a car. There are much better speakers for home use. Still, very creative and skillful on building the boxes!

  • Comment removed

  • play bass boom bottom :O

  • anyone think we should tell him that you can buy speakers in a box already not only that but they are speakers designed for home use....

  • why would you put car spekers in a box like that?

  • they're... unique, i'll give you that :-)

btw, what's with that yellow barcode sticker?

  • where do u get ipod wire to sterio by the way good system

  • Its just an axillary cable, you can get it at any walmart, meijer, radio shack, circuit city, sears, best buy....

  • i think the boxes are 2 big man ! but they look nice

  • Thnaks, they are really big, but thats because I use them as functional pieces of furniture in my apartment, theyre like tall end pieces for my bar, they are very nice!

  • you know you can make the bass roll better if you put a tube into the air chambers...

  • I am aware of that, but these are simply 6 x 9, im not real concerned with getting any amazing deep bass out of em, if this was a sub box i would certianly consider that as a port option.

  • o.k... they look nice. the granite piece is cool and

ManeleProstiePura is right, the boxes are big... think you can actually put a small 6 or 8inch sub in each of them...

  • whats the point?

  • whats the point of what?

  • is good

  • This is hilarious. Thanks!

  • veriiii niiiceeeee

  • thats a nice job man

  • Are those speakers connected to an amp? If so.. they're only getting about 10 watts each.

  • rated

  • u did a good job but did u really need such big boxes for jus 2 6x9's in each?

  • Thanks everyone, and ya i was dancing!

  • 5:29 were you dancing?

  • you sould put 2 6'' subs on each box it sound badass

  • 5 star for a good job

  • Looks good bro i like it.

  • ok that is soo coool i have been what ing ot tdo this but how dho u set up the wires comeing from them all to the bbottem the like set it to the tunner that is confusing mee ! thankss!

  • Interesting idea, but the sound quality must be disgusting with a box thrown together like that.. I like how you say "up to 900 watts of max power", when it's more like 150-200 with that deck amp and speakers.

  • Its not thrown together ass hole, it was diligently designed and constructed, and i say 900 watts of theoretical power obviously im not feeding it nor am i saying it can handle 900 im simply saying if i wear to feed each speaker its peak handling capacity it would add up to 900 watts. Why do you got to leave a DICK comment, try building something yourself so i can come along say its a piece of shit!

  • I didn't mean to be rude, but you took it so. I don't see how it's a dick comment just because you don't like what I think of your speakers. You did ask that people leave their comments, so I did. You have a speaker with a noisy fan in it, strange holes that can't function as proper ports, and a massively oversized box for your drivers. The speakers are driven by a low-grade amp and are already low-grade themselves being cheap car audio. FYI, I have made my own speaker, look at my videos..

  • check out my speaker box i made its on my page :)

  • Very Cool!

  • no amp?

  • those look really nice! did you put grills over the speakers or just leave them? but anyway these things look great, and considering this vid is almost a year old, I'm guessing you have got a lot of use from them! Good work 5 stars!

  • Thanks a lot, yes i certianly have gotten a lot of use out of them, I appreciate your input man!

  • woow nice work dude, i really liked the cooling fans and the power switch =)

but i really would like to know what you've used as a power supply??????

  • luks like a battery charger

  • Im using a really heavy duty pyramid power rectifier!

  • Turn down ur Treble dumbass

  • 6 x 9s are certainly not good hi-fi speakers. That head unit puts out what 50W per chan? wooo

  • Comment removed

  • They don't sound too bad. I've done some crazy audio stuff, check out my vids

  • If you are asking did i take into account acoustics in the filming of this video then yes you are right, i shot this video in my garage, full of walls, sharp angles and hard surfaces, which in turn cause a lot of vibrations and reverberations really drowning out the individual sounds we assess to be quality sound. I apologize for this, and my only excuse is that i was excited to have finished these speakers after a lot of work and wanted to share their quality and get some feedback.

  • u didnt at all take into acount acoustics

  • LOL..i was just thinking the same..i was like this guys just tryna make it look cool .

  • the speaker boxes look top class, btw no offence but you look like scott tenorman out of south park

  • hey man nice setup, btw how many volts did you put on your pioneer deck, because i have a power supply at home and i'm gonna buy a deck for my 4 alpine 61/2 speakers.

  • holy shit those are nice...6x9s have lots of distortion at higher power...if you're looking for more audiophile quality sound a good budget enclosure i woudl recommend doing the proper measure ments and making a passive 3 way system...you do it right and with high bps stream it will sound pretty REAL!! nice job though hope to see more

  • what's the sound quality like? is it better than what you would buy in the shop for the same price?

  • Well i can deffinately say that these are very very loud, i cant measure to the decibal but its got to be up there, and by loud i dont mean just noise, its really quality sound, after all each speaker stand has 2 speakers installed (one 150W 3-Way, 1 300W 4-Way) so that means each tower has one high quality super tweeter, 2 high quality tweeters, 2 high quality mids, and two high quality subs (Or at least its the best base you can get without installing subs) and believe me pioneer speakers are

  • extremely crisp sounding, and they really rock the whole house my friends upstairs and down the hall always complain that there walls are shaking even though im like two floors below or 2 doors down the hall!

  • Sweet setup man!

  • what is the song when you first used your ipod?

  • The sound of San Francisco

  • nice job looks nice

  • i got the blue ones

  • Hey guys thanks for your comments, I appreciate how enthusiastic you all are, they where quite difficult to build so i really like it when i can get feedback, Thanks, and good luck if your trying to build some yourself!!!

  • Looks great, i just love the cabinets.

  • okay then, kool

  • the towers are absolutely beautiful!

    very nice work!

    OUTSTANDING!

I especially liked the fan for the headunit.

  • Looks awsome. when I built my tower, I used 3/4" HDF and covered it with 1/4 bamboo ply. 3 coats of clear shellac (sand in between coats) and butcher's wax and it's perfect. Good choice with the Oak, since it's so dense and doesn't shift.

  • what about the low frequency bass? do you hear any

  • Ya i def can get the lows, at least as best as you can get on 6 x 9 speakers, certainly not to the level that a nice pair of subs would produce but they certainly do perform well.

  • an actual fact most headunits including alpine only produce 16 to 18 watts rms per channel on the headunit

  • yeh nice setup, i happened to stumble apon 10 6x9's and a set of 4 inch speakers.. hoping to do the same thing as you =)

  • That's pretty sweet. Nice job. You wouldn't happen to have a schematic on those speakers would you? I'm about to embark on my own 6x9 speaker project real soon here. I got 4 extra 6x9 speakers myself and I've been searching online for anyone whose done a successful diy 6x9 in-home speaker project to ask for some pointers. So far you're the only I've come across.

  • well i do have a schematic i drew up but im at college and its at home, far away, sorry, but i can say they are solid oak and sound unbelievable, i love pioneers speakers they certainly don't cut corners. Most of how you build it is personal preference, the hardest part is powering them and finding a powerful enough rectifier that still fits inside the box and wont break or overheat, i suggest pyramids.

  • I hear you!

  • tite...

  • 900 watts max

  • bout <20 x 4 no amp jsut hu
