I'd put my money on that Microsoft are only releasing this so they have enough first hand experience for when the next generation of consoles come around. Nintendo are ahead right now in terms of games being emmersive; Microsoft have to catch up and I think this is their answer to that. By next gen, Nintendo will have so much experience to know how to use their technology properly, MAJOR improvement is easilly expected. Can't have them stealing next gen too! Hence, 360 Natal.

Personally I don't think this is going to be as succesful as people might hope it will. As of right now, I think Nintendo's technology will be more accurate at detecting movement, as they use motion sensor and IR technology which gives the system strong points of focus to use for control, making games feel more solid. If this turns out to be a modern version of Sony's EyeToy I wouldn't be surprised, as it's relying on a camera to recognise what the player is doing, leaving huge room for error.
