Funny, Okinawans don't consider themselves Japanese. You have WWII to thank for that, which this song was written about. Even Boom is not even from Okinawa.

Actually you have the Japanese invasion to blame for it, not WWII, though the treatment of Okinawan civilians by the Japanese Imperial Army didn't help matters either. When Japan took over Ryukyuan trade and government by force. Most Okinawans haven't considered themselves Japanese since BEFORE WWII... Just sayin'. (I'm half-Okinawan and love everything about it!)
