The contradiction here is that we tell the arabs all about democracy, but when they democratically elect a Hamas government, we put a massive embargo on them. I agree Israel has a right to security, and that Hamas must stop the rockets flowing, but Hamas's power is due to a short sighted policy of America's in forcing democracy to regions where they are not ready for it. We must recognize Palestine is clearly not ready for democracy, rather than give them democracy and then punish them for it.

There are a plethora of books and I could recommend many but as a handbook I recommend the "Teach Yourself - The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict" pub by Teach Yourself. Isreal has violated all resolution passed by the security council and united nations. Resolution 338, 242 and many others. Isreal has violated human rights conventions and cease fires,but you will never hear this on main media new reports, never, however that is not to say one condoned any acts of violence from those that claim they seek freedom,I for one,does not agrees in principles nor in acts of violence.For anything gains through violence is not worth having.Both suffered, not just Isreal.

I've seen news organizations report that Israel has had blockades of the Gaza. I've also seen reports that Israel supplies necessary humanitarian aid to the Gaza. It's all a bit confusing because the media leaves so many unanswered questions. I do know that this is a grudge that goes back to Jacob and Esau of the Bible. This, in essence, is the "war on terror." I also know that if I'm sitting there and someone is lobbing rockets into my living room, I'm going to be very 'reactionary.'

You may think so,however,he has not been as equilibrium as he should have been, as i observe hidden reservation in his tone to address certain key facts as to why the situation continues to further deteorate into a disaster.Surely for every action, their is equal and opposite reaction. Medical aids for the sick, weak and desperately in need of medical help were left fighting for their live and in many cases dying, because it not that the medication cannot be afforded, but just could not be reached, as the IDF continue blockage essential goods from reaching those in need. do you understand the nature of the occupation?

The ruling party which has 2 candidates from the current administration running in the election thought of gaining popularity from this incident and started this attack. Now, Hamas has been popular once again in the Gaza strip and they have been successfully using the techniques used by Hejbollah. In the end, both parties have strong incentives in keeping the current conflict going. I wonder what will happen if Hejjbollah jumps in now.

Since Israel had blockaded the Gaza strip, getting food and other commercial stuff into Gaza had become difficult and many gazans were using these tunnels to bring the goods in. Hamas sensed the rise in the anti-Israeli sentiments in the strip and started firing rockets. Israel is having an election coming up and the opposition candidate Netanyahu has been leading the polls for his nationalistic views.

Derrick, I have been studying this conflict for about 3 years now. In my opinion, both parties lack the will to establish peace in this region. Hamas is ofcourse a terrorist organization, but recently Gazans had been turning away from it. Hamas wanted a reason to improve its standing in the general population. After the end of the ceasefire on 12/19, Israel closed the tunnels Hamas had dug for most probably for kidnapping Israeli soldiers.

In order to use Gandhi type of resistnce, your opponent must have conscious. Israel has none. It only made concesation when it couldn't win. Look at their departure of Sinai, Egypt, they made peace when they were suprised Yom Kipur war of 1973. Look at their departure from south Lebanon, they left 2000 when their military loses start to rise. They returned all prioners when they lost 2006 war. I am afraid history repeats itself here. Israeli knows by now nice and quiet is mutual thing.
