  • This must be what heaven sounds like.

  • @Amarynthine..perhaps you can enlighten me then. 'Famous' has nothing to do with music !!

  • I am transfixed, forgetting even to breath. I am so taken by this symphony in C.

  • @119supersniper Who says? They're just not famous

  • O my god!

  • Happy together forever in our little home....!

  • What the hell happened to us ?...why is no one writing music like this any more?

  • @119supersniper I'm writing a symphony right now. I just made a piano solo yesterday at /watch?feature=player_embedded&v=T5jpVUSYuQQ

  • I'm a rapist :D

  • ...the songs for orchestra are more intensive ! Mahler is with Puccini & R. Strauss in my TOP 3 ! visit my playlist 'sadest music...' , please ! LES

  • Mc eiht says, "Gyeah."

  • this will forever remind me of tessa virtue and scott moir's free dance at the olympics.

such a beautiful piece of music.

  • @chiggs92 totally agree - also this is the piece ekaterina gordeeva skated as a tribute to her husband :)

  • why would you even mention Justin Bieber?

Gosh, may I forget his existence for a second here?

This is man translating his mortal existence into on of immortality--that is why this piece transcends us.

  • Eat this, Justin Bieber... ;o)

  • its a piece not a song.

  • breath taking.

  • So beautiful. This is mine n my boyfriend tune. Just gorgeous. xx

  • I think its perfect just the way it is, change nothing.

  • this is a masterpiece of clasicals, the most beautiful symphony i never hear!!!

  • Way too slow ... Mahler needed about 8.00 ...

  • @73Adorno Yes, it is too slow. But it is still beautiful. Clearly the tempo could be a good bit faster, but really, who are we to complain.

  • brilliant

  • What a tune...I'm stuck for words to fully describe what this piece does for me..brilliant composer

  • I know we tend to call all musical works "songs," even though they aren't . . . but if you want to hear the song that is a counterpart to this Adagietto, composed in the same period of his life and expressing a lot of the same feeling, listen to "Ich bin der Welt Abhanden gekommen" (I have become estranged from the world), sung by Janet Baker. Recording is on YouTube.

  • A song?

  • Marvelous marvelous. And, forgive me, one cannot help remembering Viscontis excellent DEATH IN VENICE.......

  • I've heard this somewhere, yet I can't remember where...a ballet, maybe? Or even in my dreams...?

Oh well, it's amazingly, hauntingly beautiful nonetheless, very much like a perfect and solemn, promising dream.

  • En ? Al iemand van Fontys ontspannen nu ?

    jeroen

  • Beauty-encapsulated in a mere ten minutes.

  • I am captivated by this song. I sit in awe of it. I am breathless, always reflecting on my life. So somber, yet we are elevated at the end, as if Mahler guides us through a transfiguration where our soul is liberated and at once realizes that it is at long last free of its physical chains. "I am coming home," it remarks.....sigh!!

  • well said is an understatement

  • @Nonpeon Leonard Bernstein is buried with a copy of this symphony placed over his heart.

  • @fdscanner89

I am not surprised. I may follow suit. :-) Thank you for sharing this.

  • @Nonpeon I couldn't described it any better Myself. Kudos to You, good Sir. :)

  • Haitink is the best Mahler interpreter, IMHO.

  • Such a beautiful song, love the picture too, so serene.
