Thank you Lord, finally somebody explained enough about 4c hair to actually make me realize that I have 4c hair. I was so dang on confused at first...lol. My hair does the exact same thing on the ends, that's why I detangle my hair in the process of styling it. Trying to detangle it before anything is a waste of time, because it does nothing but tangle right back up!
My hair tangles right after detangling too. I thought it was just me lol. I think I have 4a/3c hair....I think lol. Now I see (via @lovingthenaturalme) I was doing something wrong
Don't feel bad about the tangled hair. My mom told me that when I was a child, she'd use detangling sprays on my hair by the bottle and my hair would still tangle. Fast forward 30 years when I'm finally natural again and I have learned to accept that my 4A curls will always wrap around each other. I only use a comb on my hair once every 2-4 weeks to detangle and finger style other times. Once I run the comb through to remove the tangles, there is no more running my fingers through my hair...
@Lovingthenaturalme because the hairs wrap around each other immediately after. Detangling is simply to prevent matting & locing and to remove shed hairs. If I want to keep the hair detangled for styling, once I run the comb or denman through it, I immediately twist my hair before ever releasing it from my grip. If I let the hair go, I only have a matter of seconds to pick it back up and run the comb through it to keep it from tangling. Big thumbs up on the style!!
@Lovingthenaturalme Thanks, I suppose it seems I just expected my hands to be able to run thru my hair after I detangle it. It really just makes styling my hair a real challenge. Its hard parting hair that is full of tangles. I guess I'll have to start individually detangling each section of hair that I'm working with when I style my hair.
@AfrikanHairGod I So get where u coming from and thats why when I stumbled by accident on this method I used I had to share on my in the moment response. My hair gets soo matted down if I dont prep it every night and breakage is so annoying. I have 4c hair and need soo much product to manipulate a curl pattern. So when I tried put conditioner on my hair with honey and olive oil...The comb went through...I was shocked....try it let me know if it helps for u.
I understand where you are coming from, but you still have to admit that you do love your hair right? In all its wanting to tangle glory right? I destroyed my hair because of finals, I should have kept it in twists instead of wearing it out. I definitely lost a lot of growth due to massive knots that had formed. I try to take em out gently but my stupid self doused them in conditioner(water) and proceeded to have more knots and a detangling time of 5 hrs. I hated that but eh, C'est la vie
@chimjim89 whew 5 hours??? I would just went and detangled it in the shower with my Giovanni 50:50 Conditioner. Finger detangling with that is a breeze, it has an amazing amout of slip and it makes my hair feel like silk.
@AfrikanHairGod Wow I was using that, hair products seriously never work the same on similar hair. It is such a funny thing that we have very similar hair and that gives me zero slip. Maybe a little, but not enough to glide my fingers through it. It was a definitely insane detangling session. I want to go to the salon and get my splits cut, I know I have plenty now. I'm betting I'm going to lose about and inch to an 1.5" of hair. I'll be sad, but eh it'll grow back. I wanted a cut anyways lol.
@chimjim89 Also instead of going to the salon for now i'm installing yarn twists as a protective style. I finally learned how to put extensions in my own hair. Yarn is real nice too cuz it's so soft. I'm making them long enough so I can do some cool updos that I have been begging to try, but my hair is not too long, but not short either. It's that awkward length where it's begging to be shoulder length lol. Would you ever try yarn twists? Or braids?
@chimjim89 Honestly, I have thought of doing yarn braids, i've heard that it takes forever to do... I'm slow enough doing kinky twists... but I will probably have enough patience built up by then.... I really wanted to do crochet braids next week, but I just can't find someone to braid my hair so I can install them.... I guess its back to the kinkies yet again... lol
i have a combination of 3c and 4a hair. It has a curl pattern, but it doesn't like to clump together. I was with you on your hair rant. My hair is very fine and the strands like to 'love' each other a little too much. It takes forever to detangle and because its fine, it breaks easily and then as soon as I am finished its all tangled again, no running your fingers through that mess. I detangle and style in the same step to try to prevent the carnage and frustration lol
hahahahahahahahahah ur fun

@keepitrealshorty Haha, exactly! It seems that a lot of other ppl have the same problem and they aren't 4c either so maybe its a natural hair thing.
