You know what i also think, i remember reading somewhere that the storyline for Ghost whisperer is still being written and its not like they have the script for say the next two seasons written already. So i think they had an idea for this then they just immediately changed it because they thought of something better for the storyline. And seeing as how the writing for the scripts weren't a head by a lot they had to immediately change it.

If it were that simple, I think Payne would be seen something wrong and say immediately something like 'Oh, no, I'm wrong, there are 6 shadows' and everything would be alright. They probably want to prevent us with something really mysterious and we can't find it.

Hello from Brazil, I really like this TV Show,I´ve noticed that on 0;17 Jim touches Prof. Payne's shoulder,try to watch this,really hard to know who might had died...Any clues??
Most likely, it was to hint off someone would die next season. (AKA Jim) I think the wanted you to think it was Payne, cause she thinks he could have been hurt at the office building fire, but he wasnt (Which I think was odd) so.. idk really

if you can see Jim is not on the edge ...he's at the middle (with Mel Payne and Delia)...Beth and Ned are on the edge.....but none of them is dead....because Payne can't see ghosts!

No, hunter tried to shoot him. And when Jim got the gun away from him, Carl assumed that the man holding the gun was Hunter, so he shot Jim by accident. He was on the job too soon because his step daughter died. He couldn't make a good judgement at the time. Nobody blames him! Carl's awesome!

Jim isn't in a coma, he really dies, but I'm not sure he's going to stay dead.. (I doubt it because in the next season (4) in one of the first episodes they say something like crossing the line between life and death)..
no jim really dies but he takes ovr someone elses body that was already dead. ppl see him as the guy that died but melinda sees him as jim and so do the viewers. i agree though it wouldnt be as good without jim!

dude! It's melinda who doesn't have a shadow. She has had a near death experience, which can cause her to walk between life and death...it's kinda hinted in the season 4 premiere

it totally has to be jim because if you pause it and match up the shadows you can match everyone to their shadows except him. and i know he was kinda not standing face on to the road like the others but you still should see his shadow, but you can't....and it can't be payne because you can see his shadow and if you couldn't there would have been a big gap betwen melinda and delia.and theres not.

kay, the docter MUSTVE died, cause he cant SEE ghosts,s so if one of them died besides himself, how could he realize? it would just look like 5 to him, he wouldnt see six people.
after reading all your comments and watching the vid again, i really dont think any of them are dead. the writers just want to give you something to make you want to watch next season (of course it worked its a great show!)

I agree with lickle, you also see payne conversing with delia when melinda and her mom walk upon them. What is confusing is that payne knows there are six people and only five shadows so logically one would assume that he is the only one dead or he wouldn't know this.
I really hope no one is dead. I know payne will be taking a sabbatical. Hopefully not a permanent one. I love all the characters, but payne is one of my very favorites.
I think it might be Jim - when they all line up you see him moving, but all the shadows are stationary - also the title of the episode "pater familias" translates as head of the household, i.e. - Jim
Obviously this could mean Melinda's Dad aswel - but i dont know if you could call someone who has been absent from the family for many years the head of their household.
But if it was Jim, Payne wouldn't have seen him there to count 6 people - oh its so confusing - but, maybe noone has died yet...

My 2 cents: I don't think it's her mother, 'cause her character is not so significant. Nor Delia, for it wouldn't have any meaning. Nor Jim, 'cause he'll surely star in the whole 4th season.So Payne's the only one left
And another thing, if one of them was a ghost already, they weren't supposed to be able to touch a living someone. Delia touches Jim's shoulder at some point and Melinda touches her mother's arm before the car scene, Payne also hold Melinda's hand at some point I think and Delia and Jim are definitely seing the teen guy (was that Ned, by the way? Didn't watch the third season to the end :D)

no, it's very hard, because they both air during the same time, so he'd have to balance the two shows, which is very difficult. That's exactly why they killed off Andrea.

I don't think any of them are dead dead... I think it's a warning or an omen or something. None of them can be really dead because they've all made physical contact with someone else and ghosts can't do that. I think it might have something to do with Payne though since he's leaving the series (which makes me SO sad... and kinda mad).

no jim really dies but he takes ovr someone elses body that was already dead. ppl see him as the guy that died but melinda sees him as jim and so do the viewers. i agree though it wouldnt be as good without jim!

it totally has to be jim because if you pause it and match up the shadows you can match everyone to their shadows except him. and i know he was kinda not standing face on to the road like the others but you still should see his shadow, but you can't....and it can't be payne because you can see his shadow and if you couldn't there would have been a big gap betwen melinda and delia.and theres not.
i don't know when season 4 comes out in Australia so i dunno when im gunna find out!

after reading all your comments and watching the vid again, i really dont think any of them are dead. the writers just want to give you something to make you want to watch next season (of course it worked its a great show!)

I agree with lickle, you also see payne conversing with delia when melinda and her mom walk upon them. What is confusing is that payne knows there are six people and only five shadows so logically one would assume that he is the only one dead or he wouldn't know this.
I really hope no one is dead. I know payne will be taking a sabbatical. Hopefully not a permanent one. I love all the characters, but payne is one of my very favorites.

I think it might be Jim - when they all line up you see him moving, but all the shadows are stationary - also the title of the episode "pater familias" translates as head of the household, i.e. - Jim
Obviously this could mean Melinda's Dad aswel - but i dont know if you could call someone who has been absent from the family for many years the head of their household.
But if it was Jim, Payne wouldn't have seen him there to count 6 people - oh its so confusing - but, maybe noone has died yet...

And another thing, if one of them was a ghost already, they weren't supposed to be able to touch a living someone. Delia touches Jim's shoulder at some point and Melinda touches her mother's arm before the car scene, Payne also hold Melinda's hand at some point I think and Delia and Jim are definitely seing the teen guy (was that Ned, by the way? Didn't watch the third season to the end :D)
So it's really really confusing I think. And all these people actually have eye contact during the video..

I believe Prof. Payne is the one who died. Since Prof. Payne mentions "six of us but only five shadows", that must mean he can see the person who doesn't have the shadow, which means that he must be the one that died. I don't see how anyone can say someone who died given the proof I gave.

I don't think any of them are dead dead... I think it's a warning or an omen or something. None of them can be really dead because they've all made physical contact with someone else and ghosts can't do that.
