i listened to skeeter davis and wow she blew it. it sounded really bad i dont know why some of you think it sounds good! she sounded lazy! helen was the best!
Heavens to Murgatroid! THANKS for posting this! Up until now, I was only aware of Skeeter Davis' version of this classic tune. Helen does quite well with it, I think. Have always thought it's a beautiful song. CHEERS! :)
Miss Helen has truly destroyed this song, The End of the World. Leave poor Skeeter Davis' version alone. But of course in the 60s every singer wanted to tackle the song.
But at least I got to know this British singer, Miss Shapiro, whose other original songs are just fine.
Amazing how beautiful this woman could look - even in this "Invaders From Outer Space" dress. Just the sort of lady I always wished I could've met and married.
I adore her. Have all her early records. She took the UK by storm. Great Helen. Long may you go on singing. Saw you at the Sheffield Lyceum many moons ago.
I agree Wayne. This is obviously a newly posted video of Helen Shapiro in 1965singing from her album "Helen Hits Out" of that year. Arguably the greatest british pre-beatle female contralto vocalist of all time. Most people don't know she practically co-discovered the beatles, touring with them in 1963. Its unfortunate more americans were unable to see and hear her in her prime.
Well Ken: We can't turn back time to the Helen In Nashville session which I would sell a kidney to do BUT I am burning as many Helen cds as I can...her voice is ringing out in Texas...her gospel and jazz years are just as amazing!!!
Here's to "HEGS," (her nickname) THE BRITS RULE!!! AMERICA WUZ ROBBED!!!
I totally agree. She makes Skeeter Davis sound like crap. Hell, even my laryngetic dog could sing better than Skeeter Davis! Helen is the greatest female vocalist of the last fifty years.
I'm 45 years younger just hearing Helen. Have all her records up to a point. She wasn't as popular as time went on here in Oz. I adore her. Have met several times. I couldn't speak!!
Was unrequitedly inlove at the time Helen sang this tune. I kept on singing it aswell. Still to-day I know all the words, although haven't had it in my mind for ages. I wonder what he's doing and where the shores have driffted him. Tks. alot for uploading this tune.
Wonderful. Thanks for posting this version. The orchestral arrangement is spot on - complements Helen's voice perfectly. .

Why do people keep mentioning the talentless Amy Whitehouse on Helen Shapiro videos ?
Shapiro and Skeeter Davis are in a totally different and superior class.

Ah yes, what Amy Winehouse could be--if she'd decided to ignore the follies of Billy Holiday--no disrespect to Billy's skills.
