Salma agrees with Freedom of Speech. She was only against the march taking place in this situation in Birmingham based on the fact that the previous one lead to riots and innocent shoppers got hurt.

Her concern si with residents and shoppers, she is a city councillor after all. It wasn't about Freedom of Spech, the EDL could have held their protest elsewhere, it was provocative and deliberate. I don't think the UAF did much better but Salma is not a member of either.

Yes, protesting is our democratic right that is true and Salma isn't contesting that. I mean, look at the news this week, Home Secretary Alan Johnson has agreed to ban Anjem Choudary's vile march in Wootton Bassett and the Prime Minister and numerous MPs want it banned (as does Salma).

Now, those ppl aren't getting as much grief and threats as Salma is getting from the EDL for her stance against their demo. It's the same reason for a ban, not undemocratic but for the nature of good taste.
