Hardly two bad dancers - Vincent and Flavia come with the highest credentials. Couldn't have been bad or the BBC would have put another pair of dancers on instead such as Ola and James or Darren and Lilia. A lovely dance sequence to a great piece of music.

I know this is international Samba like someone said. I know this is what is accepted in international ballroom competitions. But knowing that does not make it less painful to watch. As someone who grew up listening to this song and who is a dancer, this is really hard to watch. It does not make any sense. I know they took a long time to perfect this dance but I could not even finish it. I wish they were more respectful of the culture. After all, dance and culture are linked together.

this IS international samba, this is how it is danced in ballroom competitions and dance shows around the world. just like the other dances in the latin category (such as cha-cha, rumba, paso doble, etc) , it is not like the dance it has originated from. This also holds true for the standard dances (waltz, foxtrot, etc). These are not your grandparents dances as these kind of dances takes years to perfect. Moreover, dancing to a samba beat is more important than language it is sung in.

I agree with the brazilian friends who have commented, but I think that in this dance shows they just use any song and play it in whatever rhythm they want. They are not trying to be accurate. In the US, Dancing with the Stars modifies pop songs to be played in salsa rhythm...it is bizarre but it is indeed salsa rhythm.

I was looking for some samba exposure and Brazil culture. My children saw the movio rio and love the music and the dance of birds. In my search i found this, prejudist and confused people that don't know what the whole ball (earth) looks like only there side. Anything is not pure outside of its origin, so don't bitch about it. You guys have a lot of good points, but you also need to look at it from a dancer's perspective. First of all, the samba that we dance is not traditional Brazilian samba. It is international samba, meaning it isn't specifically the samba that is danced in brazil. yes, most of its influence is from brazil, but ballroom dancers are not trying to "disrespect" Brazilian culture because we use spanish music instead of Brazilian music. We use music that has the beat we want, and that is mostly spanish

Samba that we dance in pairs is called "Samba de Gafieira" and 100% brazilian.

These others dance styles that you see at international events (or competitions) are not THE Samba... well... not what we know as Samba.

They call it International Ballroom Samba or either "International Standard Samba" and even the songs aren't Samba songs...

A shame... we must say... the brazilian style, and rhythm are beautiful and we would love to see it at international competitions!

I just can't get why people always tend to play some random music in Spanish when they do something about Brazil, out here we speak Portuguese. I know it's hard to get, how can a country with more than 190 million people surrounded by other languages (mainly Spanish) can be the only one to speak a language that no other country of the entire continent doesn't speak. But if you are gonna dance Samba, you should get some REAL samba or at least something in Portuguese (from Brazil), not Spanish.

Well, if you are not ok with this form of dance also being called samba then you are almost a hundred years to late, because that is how long a ballroom samba exists. And If you think this is not samba, that you also should not have an issue with spanish music playing when doing the "non-Samba". In fact, Flamenco music is often used in ballroom samba and why shouldnt it be in a different language as long as the rhythm is fitting to ballroom samba.
