the studio version has an acoustic track detectable mainly when listening with headphones, and is much more mellow. of course i saw screw those who want it bought! torrent it or something. it's much better.
You're probably right - I haven't listened to the CD in many years. I didn't care for this particular CD because I found its lyrical proselytic undertones tiresome and annoying.
I seen both No Quarter in 95 and Walking Through Clarksdale in 98,.. both in Vancouver,.......... BRILLIANT,.... AWESOME..... SUPERIOR,.... They are on another LEVEL ,... far and above all others,..!!!!!
I seen both No Quarter in 95 and Walking Through Clarksdale in 98,.. both in Vancouver,.......... BRILLIANTY,.... AWESOME..... SUPERIOR,.... They are on another LEVEL ,... far and above all others,..!!!!!
I saw Page & Plant in 1995 and '98 and they never sounded better, both tours were electric and to me they had not lost a step from when I saw them in '75 and '77. very professional and the crowd was very responsive and on there feet for much of the 2 1/2 hour show...Incredible.
Back in 98 at the show I attended, this was really the only song from Walking into Clarksdale they performed live that recieved a fairly positive reaction from the mostly Led Zeppelin starved audience. "Most high", the supposed centerpiece of the album actually got the most luke warm reception of the set with the other one (cant remember the name right now) fairing just a little better. Good song though, one of the better ones off that album for sure.
Such a GREAT song. I've got great admiration for all the work that Robert's done since then, but jeez, it would be great if he'd write with Pagey more often.
I find it so amusing when folks try to label Zep and more specifically Page/Plant as nothing more than plagariarizers. They are not given the proper credit or recognition for vast amount of original material they've written. Up there with the best songwriting duos as far as I'm concerned.
"In the night the light of oneness. And the one light guides you home and the keeper turns his cards alone"
"From this shore my memory wanders and I dance upon the sea. Can I dance with you upon the sea? I love your brown-eyed madness and your beauty was exposed and now your memory is clinging to my clothes." Beautiful.
@pgm06uk I wholeheartedly agree. I don't know what people were expecting...more Zeppelin versions after Unledded? They did what I hoped they would do; write all new material. To show how well it stands up, just listen to the version "Please Read The Letter" Plant did with Allison Krauss. Haunting.
@pgm06uk It is. Such a shame that they didn't continue working together after that, Page and Plant. Lord, they sounded good in those days, on record and on stage. Bold new stuff it was.
@pgm06uk True enough, but the kids they ended up using made for a phenomenal rhythm section. I think Between them and Albini's production they got a nice jolt of youthful energy that made the album a lot more special than the 1st/MTV driven reunion thing turned out to be.
this song brings out the not-so-humble absence of John Bonham........................................this could be have been so much like Night Flight, all happy and drum-bum thunderous!
Funny...i remember when Michael Lee was alive a lot of people on these P/P videos around youtube were saying that he was crap, and they should have gotten Bonzo Jr.
Now that he passed everyone is like "aw man, thats a drag, he was so good"
lol I think people said that out of over-respect for Bonham. Nobody thought badly of Michael they were just sensitive about someone filling Bonhams shoes. No matter how skilled or deserving Micheal was he could never true respect from Zeppelin fans until after his death, pretty strange.
Might be true however I never felt that way. I would tell everybody,"Michael Lee is a bad ass drummer! The best one Page or Plant has had since Led Zeppelin." I still say it. First time I saw him in Page and Plant I knew he was good and never said "Ah! Bonham is better!" Even if Bonham was. But Michael Lee was a great drummer in his own right and definitely deserves more credit. I personally think he drummed better than Jason Bonham but that's just me.
on the planet. He is still smilin´ and really plays for all around, not only get better his reputation.
He is really model of humble human character.
It´s behind the words. I´m not only concetratin´on technique, but the music as a whole. That´s what is all about - real transcendentin´, real givin´more than any drum effort
Zeppelin is touring again without Plant. I don't get what Plants prob is. A bit to much on his high horse, as if he is too good for that. It's great that they tour with Myles Kennedy, but it should NOT be called Led Zeppelin. If they put out some originals under a different name that would be awsome. If they just do Zep songs under Led Zeppelin, that would be really lame.
Page and Plant had a great drummer and bassist for this album and tour. Great drum fills on this song. I saw them at Jones Beach and it was a great concert.
I wish this lineup had gone on under the moniker "Page & Plant". "Walking into Clarksdale" had it´s weak spots, but also unforgettable tracks like Upon A Golden Horse, Burning Up, and especially When The World Was Young, Please Read The Letter and Blue Train.
this is one of good songs on their studio album... good surprise to see the level of energy and Plant's voice is better than on the album. Tight but loose ;-) but where is JPJ?

They look fine. It's called getting old. What do u expect? If u want a better example of drugs destroying looks, look at Keith Richards. He has looked like he is in his 70s and 80s for over almost 20 years.
could have used the song arrangement skills of Mr. Jones. Needs a 3rd part and a short guitar solo, and to not repeat the chorus as many times. other than that, nice.
These guys are true legends! John Paul sat this out, just Plant & Page tour a few years back. They still have it! They should get Jones back & do some new stuff, Page could lose a few pounds. But he looks alot better that 77~83 !
There is some excellent stuff on Clarksdale. I'm not a big fan of the production on it, but some of the songs are excellent. Blue Train comes to mind.
Great performance! I don't think I've never seen this live before, but I love this song. Definitely in my top 5 from the album :) Is that Charlie Jones on the bass? Looks like his bass, but doesn't look like his hair! And I always thought had the bass higher than that.
