Noel has claimed a few times that he doesnt actually know that much about chords and which are which. Personally I dont believe him but there you go.

That would be me... Seeing as he uses a capo on the second fret and plays the E#m7 shape transposed up two frets, making it F#m7. Of course, you could just listen to the song and know this.

Then you agree to be wrong, because using a capo makes it f#m7, the finger position he uses doesn't deny the actual real facts of the matter, and not your or his opinions, which are flawed. I'm guessing you aren't a musician. Noel plays f#m7, if he says he doesn't it's because he's wrong.

actually i play guitar and i know that all chords are relative to to the capo....so technically hes playin em7 on a higher note.....

That is a wrong assumption, you mean that chord SHAPES are relative. The "higher note" is f#m7. f#m7 vibrates at a different frequency to Em7, you can't just change the name, notes will always sound different, which makes them different. It has nothing to do with what chord shape you are holding. If you told someone to jam along in Em7, they would be playing in the wrong key.
