  • Can't disagree more abotu the 2600 vs 5200 controller. 2600 stick is way too stiff.

  • This game was evil when I was 5 years old I remember not getting past the fifth or sixth screen. But it is tons of fun. Specially for the age.

  • thumps up if u played dis game

  • This review is 30 years too late

  • During the last couple of years where platformers were profitable I remember seeing a pitfall game for the playstation one. I don't remember how well it did but i'm guessing not very.

  • Great Game ! Classic, I have Pitfall 1 and 2 on both my Atari 5200 and 2600.

  • Right now im 13 years old, but damn, this looks good (Shananay voice)

  • came here from southpark xdd

  • "yay a bar of soap!" haha

  • Well, this is yet another example of 'better graphics don't make a better game'.

  • this game came out before i was born, and it still looks awsome XD

  • I used to own both the 2600 and the Intellivision versions. I preferred the INTV version because it had a second button, which was for releasing from vines. Does the 5200 also have that feature, or is it still the joystick / button combo? At least it looks the best of all versions released.

  • 1:08 HORAY! A BAR OF SOAP!!! lmao

I love your voice in the 'reviews'

  • 1:08 HORAY! A BAR OF SOAP!!! lmao

  • Pitfall is like Aquanaut's Holiday for the PSX, there is no ending or purpose other than to keep playing and exploring.

  • my grandma has atari classics for the ps1 and this is on their i play it all the time i also used to have a 2600 but it got lost when we moved

  • i would jump all the time over logs and snakes

  • I don't really understand the point of this game. I have played it a few times but after traveling in one direction or another without any positive or negative feedback it is hard to know if I am doing the right thing and I just assume that the rooms go on forever.

  • (2600) I made a complete map of the underground back then on quadrille paper. You could save time using shortcuts that way and by using the map properly you wouldn't miss any treasures. Also running from right to left gave me better times (and more patches from activision). Yes it could possibly get boring if you weren't trying to best your own time. Pitfall II for the Atari 400 and Mayan Adventure for Genesis were great because of their expanded worlds ~

  • Please add me to the useless and attention-seeking list of young people who like "Pitfall" on the Atari 2600. Also, Activision seemed to have been extremely lazy with their 5200 games judging by the videos and screenshots I've seen.

  • @MTFAMV i agree with you i'm 12 and i think the atari 2600 is better than the ps3 and xbox combined even if the other kids like grafics over gameplay

  • you suck at this game lol. but it's okay...most did. i loved this game..but i got through it without losing a pt. yes...i'm bragging mother fucker lol,

  • Pitfall...prehistoric cal of duty

  • Wow, I never knew this one existed.

  • huraaaaa!!! a bar of soap=))

  • hey i remember this it was the first game i played on atari it was so awesome back then b4 the xbox XD

  • lol at south park's reference of this.

  • Thank god for Activision! Without them, the 2600 wouldn't have made it into the 80s!

  • @kobakommander pacman wasn't ALL THAT BAD. lmao sorry i tried to say that with a straight face

  • I was born in 1993, so obviously a bit too late to know how great this game was when it was first realsed. However, I bought an Activision compilation disk for the PSP. I played; Pitfall, Kaboom, Pitfall 2 and River Raid so far. I have to say, these games are really fun! I love them, and I honestly love the graphics

  • I would've hated to have been a parent back then and got talked into buying a 5200 for my kid(s) because it had such awesome better games they just had to have... and then saw this! ;) Other games are much better, but all the Activision ones aren't so much better because they did such a great job on the 2600 versions.

  • This doesn't look any different from the 2600 version. In fact, the sounds are worse!

Besides the bricks and a few more colours, it's the same thing.

By the way, they should ask a better player to play during those reviews. Almost always it's someone that seems that never played the game before.

  • hooray a bar of soap! lol

  • I heard that Pitfall for the 5200 works on the 4 port system and not on the 2 port system. Does anyone know if this is true???

  • @MasterKanaar Works on both my four and two port 5200s.

  • I heard this game only works on the Atari 5200 4 port SuperSystem and not on the 2 port version. Is that true???

  • I didnt really care for the gameplay in pitfall when i was a kid, those graphics kept me playing.

  • You'd think that Activision would've made the 5200 version less like a 2600 clone and more like something that fully exploited the 5200's abilities. Especially when you take into account all the clever programming tricks they used on their 2600 games to make them more colorful and attractive.

  • @Akira625 The reason why Pitfall and the other Activision games look only marginally better graphically on the 5200 vs the 2600 is because Activision did such a kick-ass job on the 2600.

  • the AVGN hate over almost anyrhing, one below simon quest

  • whats the music in the beginning?

  • My mom had this game when I was a little kid :3 I sucked at it pretty badly =(

  • do a riview of pokemon platinum.

  • What is your actual goal in this game..

It looks like you walk in circles...

  • I really hope that nintendo will allow us to download Atari2600/5200/7800 to the virtual console

  • they made one for gamecube its called pitfall the lost expidition .. its a great game

  • Seems like a Wii mote would be an easy controller of life.

  • south park used this game in one of there episodes

  • HOORAY, A BAR OF SOAP!!!

  • lololol XD

  • Looks almost identical to the 2600 version. Sound effects are exactly the same. Not worth all the torture of even trying to play it on 5200.

  • You're kidding, right? The original Pitfall didn't even have music, lolz.

  • I said sound effects, wasn't that high.

  • Compared to Colecovision's Pitfall, the sound effects rock! :P

  • "Hooray! A bar of soap!" <- that made me lol [:

  • My brother is on his third ps3 and the first two got the dreaded ylod in six months total time, good thing he was still under warranty.

  • You got a bar of soap? Cool! Are you willing to trade for a bottle of hand lotion I found on a trail?

  • This is pitfalltastic :;D

  • I always played this game by running left instead of right.

  • To all the kiddies, it looks boring now, but you have no idea how amazing this game was in the early 80's on the Atari 2600. Pitfall II is still one of my all time favorites and set the stage for every platform/adventure game for the next decade. I still remember where the diamond ring is hidden. :-)

  • I see what you mean i have more respect for these classic systems than our today consoles.I own a Atari 7800 with this game and its still amazing till this day.Kids who think games like this are boring are kids from this generation who grew up playing 3D games. They have no idea how amazing these games were back in the 80s.

  • i agree!

  • There's plenty of people that were kids in the 80's and think old games suck.

  • Same. I prefer classic consoles because they dont break or get red rings.

  • I AGREE!

  • Yep,I can guarnte no Xbox 360,PS3,or wii will be working for over 20+ years like our beloved Atari,NES,Genesis etc.

  • yup. The NES does break often though. Since its pretty old ive seen many people having to replace parts to fix them.

  • The NES toaster yes but not the top loader. The Toaster because the way you load the cartridge in it bends the pins inside the system over time. The top loader will last longer cause you load the game at the top.

  • don't for get dream cast!

  • I'm already on year 10 with my Dreamcast :D My xbox will get RROD in about a year or 2.

  • Indeed but I belive playstayion 3 would lat 20 years if your like me keep everything in new order my ps3 40 gig is turning 3 or 4 years old an its exactly like new no changes at all or fixes . 360 no doubt will not last 5-7 years

  • uh, the ps3 will... as long as its been taken care on... the wii too... the only really faultty modern console it the 360...

thats not to say the ataris are not awesome...

  • I respect your opinion but no they wont. The ps3's failure rate is about 10.2% add 20 years of age on to that..Not a chance. The Wiis is about 6% again add 20+years to that no way.Even if you throughly take care of it.

  • I still believe the ps3 will last a long time... and where did you get that failure rate? I want to see proof, because I still believe the ps3 is a very solid system... better than the atari in build quality, I think... still have no fact... but I have had a couple ataris die... sorta... I still love my atari though...

  • I got my info from gamestop.A very reliable source if you ask me.The article im reading right now states "Xbox 360 failure rate 23.7%, PS3 10%, Wii 2.7%" I accidentley said 6% for Wii in my other comment.

  • meh... gamespot is ok... but I really don't think the ps3 is that high... unless you include idiot that break em... and say that it failed on its own....

I will have to look at that article...

  • Gamestop sucks. If they really knew video games, they would not be putting price stickers on the inside of Xbox games.

  • I ment to type in gamespot.I accidentley put gamestop.

  • Oops, sorry.

Gamespot is... okay for a start, but they don't really get into line with gaming. Some of their product reviews are just plain wrong. However, since it is free (I would never pay money to them), it can be passeable.

  • They seem to do that with all their used games. Why do they go through the trouble of putting the sticker right on the insert when they could just put it on the case itself?

  • I don't know, it's possible that the workers are just doing what the corporation is telling them to do. It is very unfortunate.

  • ok, after a bit of searching... I found that the PS3 has less than 1%... not sure if its accurate... but it sure sounds like it... you rarely hear of someone having a broken ps3... but you hear the old red ring story all the time... not sure about the wii... but it seems like it has hardly failed either... you just wait and see... these consoles will be kicking past 20 years...

  • I think thats because those consoles were built like tanks

  • @BillyBetYT im 15 i played this game and its sequel when i was 12 its an awesome game i hate how people think games need to be 3d to be awesome or something

i like any game as long as its good

  • @BillyBetYT You're right ,I'm 11 and I've always wanted an atari 2600, unfortunatly my parents wouldn't let me buy one so I have to stick to the emulator: "Stella" -_-

  • @BillyBetYT im a kid and i freaking want this game!!!!

  • @guymee Same here. New games usually suck.

  • @BillyBetYT I still love it!

  • @BillyBetYT dude, i'm 11, and this looks fantastic to me!

  • @BillyBetYT im a "kiddies" and i think it looks great i got it for my 2600 but im waiting for my 2600 at my post office :P

  • @00LAVALAMP Hmmm, we seem similar

  • @BillyBetYT I'm 12 and Pitfall on the 2600 is one of my favorite games...

TOTAL AWESOMENESS AND A BAR OF SOAP

  • @BillyBetYT Ugh, I hate that stereotype. So few teens my age get how fun old video games can be just because they aren't first person shooters that can render who-cares-how-many polygons per second. i still prefer Pitfall over games like Call of Duty, for instance. Though The Mayan Adventure is better, I'd say.

  • this game always kickd my ass

  • I played this once a few years ago. I got bored. Fast.

  • mindless fun classic and always will be.

  • Hahaha i remember when i use to play this game. They did a mini game of it on MUA

  • lol

u can get this game in pitfall for snes if u do a cheat code.

  • I like your videos, better than the reviews of games with screenshots and a 7 year old on his mic.

  • @xpluralx

    Or bad tempered gamers.

  • is this pitfall version the same as the one on the Atari Flashback 2.0 that bestsku sells?

i ask because im getting it for 29.99 from there

  • Don't get that! XD

If you have $30 for an Atari Flashback, just use that $30 to buy a REAL Atari.

Except for the Atari 5200 (which costs alot since you have to get the controllers repaired with gold buttons), Atari systems and computers are pretty cheap. In addition, there are people who make homebrew games for Ataris all the time. ;)

  • In Sega Genesis/megadrive Pitfall you can play this game in hidden place

  • Comment removed

  • It was a joke you dumbass! :P

  • this is probably the best reviewer on youtube so shut up foebane

  • because they review classics of u dont like it u dont have to watch it

  • do people still buy these games?

  • Oh yeah, all the time dude. There are some games on older systems that have never been rereleased onto newer systems. "Omega Race" is one, "Pitfall" is another. ;)

  • eBay

  • does it have an ending? Like what does it happen when the time runs out?

  • The game just ends when the time runs out and you are left with your score. I personally find this game pretty fun. Just trying to get the highest score possible while not losing all your lives and making it the full 20 minutes.

  • i hated that time limit. i remember playing this as a young kid and getting far as heck... seeing areas i never seen before and then it would just stop :(

  • That jumping sound is horrible

  • How does he talk about a game like that for so long and how do i watch them ? i think i watch them cause i wana see what random thing hes gonna say next LOL

  • i played pitfall in a minigame in ultimate alliance 1 LMAO

  • hehe yeah at the cercus level i used to play the minigame whit thor ROFL

  • i got to play this game in some systems

  • I know CGR has tons of systems already, but I'm thinking they need an Atari 800. Many consider it to be a better alternative to the 5200.

It shares the same hardware and has most of the same games, but it also has tons more games that never came out on 5200. It also uses normal 2600 controllers.

And it has a cartridge slot, so it doesn't have to feel like a computer.

  • perfect game

  • They made Pitfall for all kinds of different systems... what a classic. ;)

However, to say the least I find the 5200 version to have waaaaaaaay better graphics. The 2600 version has no trees, no bushes, no character definitions, no sunlight, and hardly any music (if at all even considered music).

  • nice

  • i had a pitfall for gameboy color and i liked it

  • I still have my Atari with pitfall, until now I never realised activision had been around that long....damn I feel old.

  • Theres a pitfall for the Playstation 2.

  • i saw that one, it looked nothing like the atari version, some asswipe on here says it from snes but like i say, hes a asswipe

  • I can't imagine trying to play this on 5200 over the controls.

  • Great to finally see some real classic game, instead of newer stuff..

  • lol

  • Here's what I think.... If you have a 5200 and don't have a 2600. Get the 5200 version. If you have a 2600 version get it... its better. If you have both... get both.

  • wait a minute, who does your 5200 controller still work. i thought they broke easily

  • reminds me of that south park when the priest was trying to change the church

  • Hooray!! A bar of soap! haha

  • The graphics look decently better to me.

  • Does this version not have music!?!?

  • yo what about super pillfall for snes mark

  • that was nes

  • oh thats right it was your mom that was on the snes how silly of me

  • oh i see, your a smart ass, well i dont appriciate smart asses, so go fuck your face through your ass you dumb bitch

  • ha ha

  • yeah, thats what i thought peckerwood

  • I remember playing this on my dad's 5200. It was very addicting when I was younger.

  • I always love this guys reviews. he rarely if ever looks for bad things within a game. He just simply plays the game, something most "gamers" rarely do.

  • Agreed!I mean I just see people complain

    about games graphics,rating,or controls.

  • Do 2600 pitfall

  • he did a long time ago

  • he did

  • y the fuck do u care?

  • ok first of all, why? second of all, you dont have to watch it in hd. and i'd rather see a standard quality game in hd than an hd game in hd quality

  • ...my life is played with an SNES controller.

  • So you fall down the holes but the logs dont? What a jackload of shit!

  • Thy should release this on xbla and psn.

  • and the nintendo shop channel

  • I've actually played The Lost Expedition, which is a 3D Pitfall game. It's actually pretty decent, but when I bought The Big Adventure on the Wii, I realized Activision screwed me over by giving me the exact same game as The Lost Expedition, except with motion controls. Please don't buy The Big Adventure. That game is a fraud! Just buy The Lost Expedition for the PS2 instead. Or maybe you should probably just rent it in case you don't like it.

  • who knew 8-bit looked great in HD

  • YHAY A BAR OF SOAP LOL ROFL

  • Oh my god! This has just aroused memoried of me playing this game many years ago... I could not even remember it until I saw this video! But It's all flooding back to me now!!

  • ... aroused...

  • Great review as always! Lol :P

  • I can't agree with this review. The 5200 has additional playing time with some added levels not in the 2600 cartridge. People who are able to play these games now are obviously playing them on their computer, not the actual console, so control is not an issue anymore. The improvements in graphics and sound, while subtle improved on the 5200, are still better.

  • Hmm.. Pitfall on genesis.. aint that game about some fat guy in skateboard?
