I'm curious what school this group is at...I sang at Titusville High School in Titusville, Florida under Tom Davis in the late 80's early 90's, and our choir sang at Candlelight back when it was a nationally televised "once a year" 1,000+ choir processional and event under Derek Johnson before they broke it up to smaller choirs at various parks (Epcot, now I think). Our Madrigals used to sing this song afterward on the boat ride to the busses. Brings back wonderful memories.
@CHSIndependent the group who is singing was actually composed of current and alums of bonita high school in the city of la verne california, a small suburb outside los angeles. Myself a bonita alum, i brought together a group of current and alumni bonita choir students to form a caroling group just for fun. In this particular video, we were singing to the bonita high school choir. Our choir conductor is very fond of derric johnson and has had his choirs sing his music for many years.
Great, really nice. Just stylistically and for future reference, for russian music you really really don't want to scoop up to pitch- works great with modern carols and pop music, but russian choral music is a much different singinging style. One hell of a great group of singers though! *claps*
Thanx for the advice! unfortunately, your suggestions for our style of singing doesn't fit with the piece. This particular arrangement of carol of the russian children is sung by the a cappella group the voices of liberty from walt disney world. Their arrangements are very jazzy/pop because they sing in that style. Even on their recording of this particular song they scoop a lot. Its just their particular style.
Glad that you've been introduced to Gene Puerling/Singers unlimited material. They were fantastic. I'm guessing you already know that Disney's Voices Of Liberty do this same arrangement.
"the voices of liberty were basically what we strive to even sound potentially close to"
Certainly an excellent model to emulate. I've got a ton of video I took of them. I wish I'd had a better camcorder but at least it was taken on a tripod. I need to upload some of it. I've got a couple of American Vybe things up now.
Btw, don't know if you knew that Gene Puerling - founder and arranger for the Singers Unlimited and the Hi-Lo's a couple of decades before that, died this past March.
