  • Skynyrd's greatest recording.Tuesday's gone second.What's that other one???????????Concrete and something surrounded me?????Oh yeah...I'm coming home third!

  • For the record: It's LOEW and BLACK, not Bayou. At 51 I have probably listened to Second Helping a few thousand times. Tickets to the Street Survivors show at the Bayfront Center in St. Pete Fla sold out before I could scrape together the cash to get one. One of my greatest disappointments is never having seen them live.

  • NO ONE ON EARTH CAN SING THIS SONG LIKE LYNYRD SKYNYRD CAN IT JUST DOESNT SOUND THE SAME

  • Catchiest damn song..... sang it for 2 weeks straight.... still going

  • loew

  • It's spelled correctly in the title, but incorrectly in the lyrics. It's "Curtis Loew" He was names after Loew's theatres.

  • mikecyote@yahoo.com

this song is actually about Shorty Medlock a drinking' Buddy of Donnie and Ronnie Granddad. Ricky Medlock's Granddaddy No kidding I actually spoke to Donnie van Zant

on Rock line back in the Tribute tour days I even won a $100.00 dollar bet on this answer.

  • i absolutely love this song

  • people always ask me if i'm named after Curtis Leow when i meet them for the first time.

  • @Katmantaylor No they don't

  • @ImFrankRizzo my real name's Kurt!

  • One of my all time favorite songs!

  • brother itroduced me to this song..i love it,lol

  • their best song, IMO.

  • Saw Lynyrd Skynyrd recently and was a bit disappointed that they did not play this song. The still were awesome regardless.

  • @sparrow1222 They very rarely play this song live. Its a hard song to get the timing right on.

  • Great song. Outshines any crap that these so-called 'artists' belch out nowadays.

  • BEST. SONG EVER. this was my first favorite song @_@ my cousin sung this he did pretty good

  • i have more respect for ronnie van zant than jesus!!! his music aint a big bear tail.. his music is real..... R.I.P. RVZ!!!

  • Play me a song Curtis Lowe--One of the BEST Southern Rock Groups Ever!!

  • Love this song...I am only 35 yrs. young now...lol but, my brother used to sing and play this for me when we were growing up! Loveing every minute of it...This songs awsome!!!

  • WOO HOO

  • Thanks for providing the words and letting us sing along. You've done well son. Ol Curtis would be proud of ya.

  • Thanks for posting.......LS's greatest song.

  • This song is the major reason why I refused to look away when I encountered the homeless in Chicago. I know, sometimes they can be a bit difficult to handle, and can be quite awkward and inconvenient, but I try to remember someone's son or daughter is in there. That this person has, or had potential at some point, and they're just as deserving as dignity and address as anyone else. In fact, lacking that dignity is probably a fraction of the reason their situation persists.

  • @TheBSG ypu shpuld check up on austin texas they have a homeless man whos became a celebrity but still poor as all hell but people would buy him drinks at bars and stuff no one knows how he got this kind of treatment but he is kind of living every homelessmans dream besides you know having a house

  • Am I the only one that cries with uncompromising abandon when they hear this song? The story is so lonely, but at the same time it's sweet that a child could love and appreciate a homeless black man in a time of racial tensions.

  • he'd play me a song or two, then take another drink of wine

  • I have this boxed set, too!

  • where's the lyrics?

  • Grew up less than 50 miles of vocalists Steve and Cassie Gaines. They were quite the local kids done good story. It was a sad loss all the way around. "I wish you was here so everyone would know. People all say you were useless but them people all were fools. Cause Curtis you're the finest picker to ever play the blues."!!!

  • how is this not on my ipod!

  • I read a book and they said Shorty Medlock was who gave them the idea for this song.Shorty wasRicky Medlocks father

  • this is a GREAT SONG

  • HEY I HAD A FRIEND WHO PLAYED THIS FOR ME I WANT TO PUT IT ON MY FB WITH HIS PIC ANYBODY NO HOW??

  • No one, not even his brother, can sing it like Ronnie.

  • my dad plays guitar and one of our favorite things to do is sing this song together while he plays, thanks for posting this it brings back great memories

  • Shorty Medlock was the was the insparation for the song.Ronnie just changed it a little bit.Acording to the book I read

  • just great,thats all icansay

  • tHIS SONG REMINDS ME OF WHEN ME AND COUSIN USE TO COLLECT RAILROAD SPIKES FROM THE TRAIN TRACKS TO SELL AT THE JUNK YARD FOR SCRAPS UNTIL OUR GRANDPA WOOPED OUR ASS FOR STEALING FROM THE RAILROAD ! lol THEN WE COLLECTED COKE BOTTELS FOR MONEY TO BUY CANDY AND COKES . THIS WAS 1974 AND WE WERE 7OR 8 lol

  • i bought this on vinyl when i was was 10 and i have the record in my hand and it clearly states it is spelled curtis lowe you fuckin morons. where do you get your info? i am now 43 fyi

  • luv seein those 'tall boys' in there! LOL!! Rock on SOUTHERN ROCK, ROCK ON!!!

  • Loew is a Jewish name. Thats VanZant's subtle sense of humor at work. Allen Collins and Gary Rossington were in the same class at Lake Shore Junior High as Curtis Lowe (and me). I bet they knew him. He is now deceased. Don't know when he died.

  • @allbroskj u went to school with them????

  • great tune

  • @painterman1969 amen to the bro

  • i'm 18 but thoes where the days man! I wish good feeling would in every generation like this! now days is lame i tell you LAME.. People want good feelings not toture!

  • there was a black man that owned a country store off of lakeshore rd near ronnies house that played music on a guitar (maybe a slide) that all the people including ronnie and the guys visited-according to legend the song was a composit of this man and allot of delta blues players like son house and bob j etc- the song was more or less a tribute to the delta blues players-god bless all of em

  • michael Izen

  • is this befor or after free bird?

  • great song. lots of good blues riffs...this new crap people listen to i will never get. Now songs like that was music. Hendrix and kiss was music

  • i luv lynard skynard(: not to long ago i went to 1 of their concerts!

  • Thanks for being one of the only youtube pages of this song with the title spelled correctly.

  • @RobertGary1 yeah, and i find it funny when people comment saying i've spelt it wrong.

  • @lilbaz2 *spelled

  • @RobertGary1 I GUESS YOU GOT WHAT HE MEANT !!! JEEEEEEESH POLITERY CORRECT yeh i know i spell it wrong mfo

  • I guess what the song is about Ronnie Van Zant lookin' up to a childhood friend who really know how to play the blues.

  • I have to correct you ,if you don't mind. You said Skynyrd was the greatest southern rock bands and I just want to say that in my humble opinion, they were the greatest Band of all time. And that is coming from me...an old Metal Head from way back. Nazareth ,Black Sabbath right up there too. LOL Have a good one bro.

  • I'm SO glad that I got to see Skynyrd before "the crash". One of God's gifts to one of his undeserving children...

Lynyrd Skynyrd, in my opinion, was THE greatest southern rock band of all time, and that's saying a lot.

  • I wish I could have seen them...and I agree that they were great. The original members of Skynyrd and John Fogerty are 2 of my favorites then and now :)

  • DeeJune13......I saw them twice. Once at The Fox Theatre in Atlanta in 1976 and again at The Hanner Fieldhouse in Statesboro, GA. in 77 shortly before the crash. These are among my most treasured teenage memories. I still have the ticket stubs!

  • thank you for posting. This is a beautiful song. I wish so much that this band could ...well, what do I say here, I wish that they had never had that plane crash...I just wonder what they could have done.

  • this is the best song on the second helpings album

  • I used to sing this song as a kid! I love this song thanks for putting it up! <3

  • i love this song

  • I love skynyrd sooo much! they have been my favorite band since i was 9 by the way im only 14 lol but still

  • Comment removed

  • loew actually

  • @gtbtone and it's "ballad", actually.

  • On the day ol' Curtis died, nobody came to pray

    Ol' preacher said some words,

and they chucked him the clay.....

He lived a lifetime playing the black man's blues

And on the day he lost his life, that's all he had to lose

    My all-time fav Skynyrd song

  • Same.

  • i like tuesdays gone the best then simple man then this song then freebird then saturday night special ( ;

  • it says black man blues

  • He says "Bayou mans blues" not black mans blues. But thanks for posting the lyrics

  • im pretty sure its black mans blues.

listening to it in detail sounds like black and not bayou, and bayou doesn't really fit in if you look at a definition

  • It's in their copyrighted song books....so go ask them then. Cheers..

  • oh ok, its just that it doesn't really sound like bayou and fit in definition wise. but anyway, thanks for the correction :D

  • It's not Bayou.

  • Creamy guitar....I don't know what's in their copyrighted song books. Record companies can put what they want to in those things for fear of offending someone. But the line definitely reads, "He lived a lifetime a-playin the black man's blues..."

If you can find an original copy of the "Second Helping" album......not the re-released CD....you will find it there.

  • LMAO!!!! You need to visit an ear, nose and throat specialist.

Hate to say it dude......you is WRONG!

  • Def 100% is black, I agree...

  • @Creamyguitar1956 wrong...wtf i dont even know how anyone could think it said bayou.

  • @Creamyguitar1956 Sounds nothing like Bayou :s

  • it is spelled loew, dont comment if you dont know what you are talking about...

  • great!!!

  • I can remember my first night in an old country town in Japan. Lonely and trying desperately to find some kind of music on the radio. Finally found an English speaking music station and fell asleep. Got woken up at about 2:30 am to this tune. One of my favorites, I couldn't be farther away from home and Skynyrd gave me a little peace of mind. Then, I knew I would be ok. Ronny said, "son, just stick it out and it would be worth it." I did, was there for the next 6 years.

  • you spelled lowe wrong... but i love the lyrics and i love the son...good job!

  • actually it is spelled loew..

  • no its spelled lowe...look it up

  • Huh. Funny if i look up curtis lowe. It still comes up with many Curtis Loew results. Now how about you search and look up Curtis Loew.

  • Probably a simple typo, I almost did it when I searched. Wanna see something REALLY funny, start typing in "devil went down to" and see what the dropdown menu suggests.

  • Guys, it's "Loew"... get the album, 99% sure they didn't make a typo on the back of the album cover. ;)

  • on the back of the album it says Loew :P

    now, less arguing more listening!!!:D
