  • WHAT THE FUCK DID HE JUST SAY? HEHEHE

  • Jimmy should shut his trap.

  • To which interviews, specifically, do you refer? While most, if not all, high-end athletes are egotistical to one degree or another, Federer and Nadal have always displayed a professional if not genuinely friendly regard for oneanother . . . quite unlike the unremitting boorishness that characterized McEnroe and Connors.

  • hmm the crybaby vs the greatest prick of all time. who wins?

  • Translation:

    Conners: You are an ABORTION!

    McEnroe: You CANNOT be serious!

  • i try to translate, mac enroe, one more time, contest. after that jumbo says" ok, listen to me, i'm sick of your behaviour, you are really a kid. you have really the mental age of my kid". in this french open, jimmy's kid is 5 years old...

  • 181erob, I think by now that we may assume Berus7777 does not understand the difference between fact and opinion. One thing to not like the guy, quite another to crawl into a cave to avoid recognising the enormity of his footprint on the game. Lendl's impact far outweighs that of McEnroe or Connors, he is, simply put, the father of modern tennis . . .

  • Connors CANNOT be Serious!

  • why did he react that way?

  • Which proves that you shouldn't be applying for a job as a tennis commentator anytime soon . . .

  • Ivan Lendl - WORST thing ever to happen to men's tennis. Seriously one of the all time worst professional athletes in any sport in terms of his impact on the overall sport. And, while I think Sampras is probably a nice guy, he wasn't much better for the game, either.

  • @Berus7777 Just for a complete clarification, what was so negative about his impact on the sport?

  • fake. most of these arguments between them werent real.

  • Connors would have beaten Mac the way Michelle beats Brian

  • Well put absolutebore, although I would disagree with your assessment of him as a "great player". Cheats, and he was one, don't get that label. Connors was not deserving of the title "Champion" . . .

  • FED the best ever.

  • you're right, of course. but I didn't say he *still* held that record. it IS pretty amazing that it wasn't until '08 that Fed beat his consecutive weeks record. and let's not lose sight of the point. I was originally responding to spaceyvet319, who said something about connors not being worthy of serious consideration as one of the greats. certainly, 8 majors and 268 accumulated weeks at number 1 is nothing to sneeze at.

  • CONNORS THA MAN.

  • lol john is thinking..... oh shit

  • Connors would always get in his face and John would back down...McEnroe was all mouth.

  • @gatorcc70 actually Connors was all mouth and possibly the worst cheat in the history of the sport. He intimidated officials and got away with it with a smile. Rubbed out ball marks on clay courts, played the fool to waste time and upset his opponent. Connors apparently had very few friends on the tour. A great player though!

  • Comment removed

  • @spaceyvet319 Connors won 8 majors and held on to the number 1 spot longer than any player in history. I'd say he deserves to be taken seriously.

  • @saturn11

    that honor goes to sampras.

consecutive weeks go to federer. look it up...

  • i always hated conners. he was a prick

  • the Mac felt very bad there, john looked up to Connors.

  • Connors got the ego complexe. No class.

  • Jimmy connors was so sexy

  • I really wish this wasn't in French so i could understand

  • Connors went right in his face. Mcenroe hated Connors to begin with because the NY crowd backed Connors in Mcenroes own back yard. Becker also had enough of Mcenroe once, and went at him. In both cases Mcenroe ran. Mcenroe was an unmanly guy imo.

  • err its in french i can't understand it

  • @ox092 You can't understand it..... You cannot be serious...YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!!!

  • Connors was always a turd - and he was not someone who should threaten anyone, he couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag

  • Putain, ça c'était des joueurs ... des vrais !

  • john got owned

  • After my last comment i feel i was a little harsh on Connors, after all he is one of the greatest! It's just that Mcenroe seems to cop all the flack and i even witnessed as a ballboy, how drunk idiots and amateur umpiring got Mcenroe into trouble. Mcenroe got baited when all he was doing was asking the umpire to control the guy making noise in the box behind the court. The crowd were bored as John was winning easily and the officials were out of their depth. Yes Connors was a little devious!

  • Connors barely played Davis Cup for 2 reasons, 1st he

was more interested in making money playing exhibition matches. 2 because he couldn't handle sharing the limelight with Mac. Mac naturally drew more attention and Connors couldn't handle being the no 2. Mac carried the Davis Cup, while Borg and Connors were playing exhibitions for $.

As much as Connors was a battler and a champion player, he was a terrible sportsman and got away with so much! Connors was definitely no team man!

  • @absolutebore Ya thats why he played a individual sport

  • what a pair. Both were nuts in different ways

  • one more thing, now most of the top100 are very complete and have a decent volley

that was not the case in bigmac time

All this players now are very close technically

the bests make the difference with tactic, mental, ability to better play great points...

  • "now most of the top 100 are very complete and have a decent volley"

    Oh god, did

  • @bull864

it's very hard to objectively say that the competition was better...

the only sure thing is that the top100 was never as dense than today

Never the n°100 was so close to the n°10

Not so long ago, the first rounds in masters were a formality for the top5, look at now how the most matches are tights...

I think win a GC was never as hard than today

so more congrats to fed !

  • Le doyen de l'Académie française doit être content non?

  • I love how i can't understand what the hell the announcer is saying other than "Johnny Mac!"

  • I agree with that completely.

  • Some people value humility and respect over belligerent arguments...

The self-control that Nadal and Federer shows on and off the court is more admirable in my opinion...

  • @IPawnt While I agree with you 100%. I used to HATE McEnroe, but I got to face facts there are no personalities in tennis anymore. My all time fave is Bjorn Borg. But Conners & McEnroe made it a bit more entertaining. I also used to love Becker especially in his youth when he would dive all over the place.

  • @IPawnt Could not agree more.

  • @IPawnt I've seen Nadal talk plenty of trash in interviews about Federer. And you don't think that biting the trophies isn't about one upsmanship? I'll take the fire and charisma of Connors and McEnroe any day. Aggasi was never anything until he found the passion they had.

  • if you were bored at the wimbly final 2008, maybe modern tennis is not for you...

btw i think too that the behavior of big mac on court was not so good for tennis (though i respect the genius)

  • "They were both geniuses of the game and vastly superior to all the Federer and Nadal of nowadays."

it's impossible (an very dumb) to compare players of different eras

    that's why there can't be a GOAT

imo Big Mac would be crushed by the power and speed of fed or nadal (like he was crushed by lendl)

  • Lendl-McEnroe 22-13

  • @Pitonto McEnroe = 7 out of 11 slam finals won = 64%

    Lendl = 8 out of 19 slam finals won = 42%

  • @AllGenreMusic That doesnt matter at all. The fact that he made it to 19 slam finals shows how amazing he is, even if he lost at all of them.

  • @AllGenreMusic

875–198 (81.55%) singles match by Mac.....

    1071–239 (81.8%) singles Lendl...

Lendl reached ten consecutive Grand Slam singles semifinals—a record that was broken by Federer at the 2006 US Open.

  • Yeah I reckon Nadal is on steriods too, and some guys from the press centre at this years Bucharest ATP Open reckon the same thing too.

  • lol Lendl-McEnroe? 22-13

LFMM that was your only argument and it's false, what a great tennis specialist

yes as i said we can't compare players of different era, but it's a little different for Big Mac : he already didn't have the technique to handle modern tennis made of powerful strokes (Lendl heading).

Mostly bescause of his grip (the same for all his strokes ! The continental grip best suited for volleys)

so we can assume that would be the same nowadays vs nadal or fed

    QED

  • I Have many arguments and I've proven you wrong.

Big Mac totally OWNED Lendl in 1984 at US Open Final and if it was not for his over confidence, he would have won the french open this same year.

He played some of the greatest tennis I've ever seen in 1984 and would own all the Federer and Nadal of this world with it nowadays.

    QED

  • your only argument was false (lendl vs macenroe H2H), sorry for your epic fail

yeah we know he plays great in 1984 but it doesn't prove anything

  • how mature ... did you ask to your dad for borrow his pc ?

  • Oh and it does prove he is one of the greatest players in history and way more popular than lendl will ever be

  • Popularity is no value, just a shallow point of view. Lendl is from Eastern Europe, obviously he was another sort of bloke, kind of gloomy and very determined, a go-getter type. Lendl won 8 majors (Mac 7) and more tournaments than Mac. The latter was the greater talent but he messed it up after 84. He struggled almost ten more years and hardly won anything (maybe 12 out of his 77).

  • Comment removed

  • wrong. if you give mac the equipment these guys have today or give the guys today his equipment 25 years ago i like mac's chances. he has the fastest hands and best touch of any player to ever play. fed and nadal are much like tiger woods in that they are great but the competition was better when mac was in his prime. they wouldn't have dominated the game 20 years ago.

  • did you read my last post ?

it's not a problem of equipment but of technique

nowadays the best service/volley (even with the fastest hands) is not enough anymore

you must be good and powerfull at the baseline too

big mac never was a powerfull baseliner (mainly because of his grip), that's why he was crushed by lendl

Lendl proven my opinion 20 years ago !

  • Mac owned lendl until 1985 when mac was drinking and snorting coke and didn't care about tennis anymore. in fact, mac never won a major after 1984. it's too easy to say serve and volley wouldn't work today because no one does it so how do we know? tennis was a MUCH more enjoyable game to watch 20 years ago due to the contrasting styles.

  • hem, if "no one does it", maybe it became very difficult ? (slower surfaces, easier returns, etc...)

i also regret the end of the server-volleyer attackers but now it's the reign of great all-court players and it's still enjoyable to watch, really.

and of course there's still contrasting styles, for exemple look at the 3 frenchies of the moment : tsonga, simon and monfils : their style is very diifferent each other

  • again, a lot won't agree with the "competition was better before" thing, except from old nostalgics

    that's another debate...

  • I love Jimmy <3 And I love Mac <3 And I especially love when they get into it. :)

  • Comment removed

  • What happened in this clip?

  • don't fuck with jimmy

  • Mac had le last laugh at that match, I recall that well when he categorically slaughtered Connors after the exchange at the net. I believe that it was Connors who had the ego thing overall.

  • All credits to McEnroe. :)

  • Connors wouldn't crush Mac. Your wrong juandi2570.

  • That's stupid comment!! Wealth does not produce talent!! If he did not get wealth from his family as least he did get good genes and nutrition ---- considering his great physique and fitness!! He retired A LOT later than most!!

  • Wealth does not produce talent, but it does allow a person with talent to direct all their energy towards improving. A poor person with talent could just as well dig ditches for a living and no one would know!

  • oh...just shut up!!

  • i used to have a shirt like McEnroe!

  • me too they were expensive and the mcenroe racket

  • Dunlop couldn't send them out as fast as he was breaking them =p

  • i would have loved to see jimmy go all chuck norris on johns ass

  • Jimmy Connors has 108 ATP titles. Unreachable record.

  • Yes agree!! I read about these amassing champions. Connors play intensive physical tennis like Nadal does --Rafael is a modern version of Borg! I consider these two the closest to Rafael Nadal's tennis style.

  • i remmeber this match. McEnroe was winning very easy so at this moment John throw a defensive lob a little bit wide in the middle of court. Jimmy smashed that ball and won the point easy and then Mc questioned the call to umpire. Jimmy responded in that way because Jhon was winning and especifically this point was imposible for Johny Mac

  • What an insult to his own son!! HOw can Connors insult McEnroe by comparing him to his own son?? Maybe he treats him the way he treats McEnroe on the court here... like a jerk!

  • Hahahahaha! What an insult to his son in deed!

  • i watched jonny mac give a ball kid a hard time at a senior event in e. columbus. he really was a jerk on the tennis court. one thing i learned about jonny mac is not to get him mad, because he would play at least 3 times better than before.

  • The commentator says:

John McEnroe had been discussing a ref decision, and Connors went to McEnroe and said "Listen, i'm fed up with your behaving like a kid, you really have the mental age of my son, do you understand, yes?"

    [literally]

  • I loved John, but Connors would have kicked his ass.

  • Comment removed

  • Why? Because the scrawny Connors grew up poor? Poverty doesn't automatically make you tough. My money would be on Johnny Mac

  • Connors would kick Mac´s ass easily, no contest there. Mac was a high class brat, Connors came from the hood.

  • Johnny Mac didn't come from a "High Class" background. He was born at a U.S. Military Base in West Germany. His Dad was a Military guy, who later became a Lawyer(He attended law school at night while working days as a Advertisement Agent), his Mother was a Housewife! One of his Grandpa's was a Longshoreman, the other was a Bartender! None of that Qualifys as a "High Class" Background. Second thing is, FATHERLESS Jimmy NEVER lived in the HOOD. He grew up in a working class neighborhood.

  • There was NO Ghetto for either one of these Micks. Oh by the way, Connors was a Momma's Boy! She was his Coach! LOL!!

  • whatever, Connors would crush Mac anywhere, anytime. Mac is just a screaming brat.

  • Right! Facts don't matter! Hahahaha...

  • whatever, Mc would kick his ass out of the court

  • Funny, last time they played each other, MAC ATE HIM FOR LUNCH.....

    6-1, 6-1, 6-2 (1984 Wimbledon)

  • Yes and connors was really at his peak...

  • Yawn-diddily-awn.

  • speak english son

  • Soo_Yawn-diddily-awn. Better, Mr. Flanders?

  • speak english son

  • Ok, Connors was like 33 then, past his prime ok?

having said that, he fucking made the semis at 39, so maybe my argument is redundant...

  • Umm, so are you MAKING my point are disproving it? =) And JM is still playing successfully today.

  • Actually, the last time they played in an ATP tourney was in Tuolouse, France, and it was in the finals. Connors won easily.

  • Oh, and the year was 1989.

  • @Schrittwieser - Maybe...maybe not...Connors was wimp...in a fight he'd probably not last a minute!

  • what is the french narrator saying???? can any frenchman please translate it to me????

  • "Listen I'm tired of u acting like a child. You have the same mental age as my son".The narrator 2 say that Connors's boy is 5yo.

    hope it helps

  • wow you're a douche

  • haha spaz

  • Connors: "Listen I'm tired of you behaving like a child. You really have the same mental age as my son! You got it?!!"

Commentator:"Connors son is 5 years old"

  • I remember watching this match. Connors was kinda pissed that Mcenroe was questioing a call, even though he was winning so easily. Mcenroe owns connors

  • the QUESTION, jerk...

  • And now McEnroe hugging Federer...don't make me laugh

  • they couldnt stand each other

  • connors= awesome. glad someone put the dumbass mcenroe in his place.

  • rather have connors than menroe any day

ones a loud mouthed american (with a sense of humour) the others just a foul loud mouthed american

  • thats dam right

  • What could this have been about?

  • Connors and McEnroe were both assholes!

  • Yes, but they were my favorite assholes.

  • ah but such talented assholes

  • watchable assholes too....

  • i dont know why this got thumbs down. Even if you love connors or mcenroe, you can't deny, they are both kinda jerks. But they do have talent.

  • I meant on the court. You can't deny that McEnroe has a reputation for being a hot head. So why the fuck would you call me a jerk? You know it's really annoying that ppl on youtube get so fucking caught up in shit that they feel the need to insult others who leave comments.

  • He was quoting Mcenroe saying "answer the question, jerk".

You don't seem to know your stuff, in all due respect.

  • Don't know my stuff? I am not sure what you mean by that as I never claimed to be an obscure McEnroe quote expert. Also, in all due respect, you don't seem to pay attention as that has already been clarified in a subsequent response. Doesn't matter, it's just youtube.

  • ah so you meant your question as a joke. I get it. I still stand by my earlier statements, peeps on youtube tend to take things too seriously. That said...McEnroe is the f***ing MAN! Isn't he doing pepcid commercials now? ANSWER THE QUESTION!! (classic mac).

  • Have you ever been to a tennis match. You hear stuff the networks blank out. I saw Mac playing in Toronto in 1982. He shouted at a ball girl and said something to the effect of "Are you so f*cking stupid you can't give me the ball" and similar crudities to what were basically children. So you judge about the jerk issue.

  • Classic McEnroe-Connors. They really didn't like each other

  • That´s how real men handle business ;-)
