black belt in 27 months???? that's so wrong!! just because you know all the moves doesn't mean you know karate and what is really is.. and to be a master you should have an experience too.. 27 months... right..
Note that knowledge and wisdom are different. Knowledge is knowing things but wisdom is understanding how to use your knowledge. This kid has knowledge but no wisdom.
I believe that this kid memorized everything that was taught to him, and that's how he knows everything so well, but he isn't mature enough to understand it, he only memorized it.
no hate but to hold a dan ranking you must take responsibility and grow not just in skill level but in maturity as well. at 7 years old he is old enough to comprehend most things around him let alone the meaning of a black belt.
that school and other schools who let kids get such a meaningful belt is a disgrace to the martial arts world!!!!
I partially agree with you. But did you see his form? He created that whole form by himself at seven years old. That's amazing skill!! But you are right, he must have maturity as well. I take American Kenpo Karate instead of TKD and I am fifteen years old-I'm testing for my black belt in a year-if I'm lucky. It might even be two years before I get it. For my black belt, I have to write a thesis paper, I'm sure this kid didn't have to do that!
Is this kid 5? he looks it and a black belt already? he couldn't possibly understand what is involved. theres 25 year olds in my clud who still don't understand it.
He has some skill but lacks the maturity to be a Black Belt. The belt is meant to signify skill, knowledge, and maturity. It's sad that so many schools are nothing more than Mac Dojos
A 7 year old getting a black belt?? That is just wrong. The style I do does not belive in a Junior black belt. We believe that a child does not know the responsibility that comes with holding a dan ranking. Also, for us to achieve a shodan, prepare for at least 8 to 10 years of training before being elegable to grade for it.
I've been doing Tae Kwon Do like trey up there for 4 years i tested for my black belt a month ago and when i tested the only similar thing is that we did forms nothing else is similar i've been wondering why people who do the same type of Martial Arts don't do the samething
im already 18, very dedicated. been doing martial arts for over 3 years now and am a junior Brown Belt. i need atleast 5 years of training for my black belt..why cant it be the same for this kid? oh, and for us, 27 months can maybe make a junior Brown Belt, if he passes all of the tests on the first try and comes to class 100% of the time
heres the way i see it, for his age, the kid is very good. In my style of martial arts, we have a junior black belt rank which basically signifies the skill and proficiency of black belt but does not signify the full respect and honor of a full black belt. for a full black belt you must be 18 years old, appearantly there is no training black belt for him. A mockery.
What upsets me more than the fact that they used weapons in a hand&foot art is that they were used by a 7yr old. I believe that neither the student nor the teachers have yet fully grasped the tenets they should be saying every training. The black belt signifies not only the ability in the art, but also maturity. Clearly even an 18yr old may not satisfy this last one. That's just ignoring the pattern was sloppy and his stance is liable to get his knees broken.

martial art is all about training and get to know the nmvoes and stuff. theres no different from a 7 year old and a 20 year old that get a black belt cuz they need to practice and practice . yes the kick will get his ass kick but he wont if ifs aorund his age. as sooon as he grow up then he will be stronger. a 20 year old that has a black belt doesnt mean he cakick some 1 ass u have to sparr alot and know what ur suppose to do
Wow 27 months doesn't make a black belt. It makes a YELLOW BELT!!!!!!!!! What a belt factory! You might as well give a black belt to a kid who's in diapers. A seven year old isn't fully developed enough to be a Balck Belt. Try seven years before you get your Black Belt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No it is not a lie or a joke, they actually DO give black belts to kids that young and I agree those kids DO NOT DESERVE IT! Sadly...I am stuck in that belt factory but I've actually earned my black belt, I've been taking TKD for two years and am a red belt now...and the idea of little kids getting black belts so soon digusts me. I hate being in the ATA but sadly its all i got since i moved and I can't find any other TKD classes.
Oh please... This is just not possible to achieve a black belt degree at this age. In my country you have to be at least 18 (an age I find quite young yet, so what about 7...). This is just ridiculous.
any martial arts school that awards their students with black belts at that young of age is a belt factory. sure you actually learn martial and achieve discipline etc but its a embarassment to the rest of the martial arts world. a real school for example if a student started at age 7 like your son he would just be earning his blackbelt at age 17-18 if he came in 100% of the time and passed all of the tests. what does that show you? congratulations on making a mockery of martial arts
It's my son and he was 7 years old. He trained for 27 months to earn his black belt in ATA (American Taekwondo Association.) He is about to test for his 2nd midterm toward his 2nd degree black belt. (There are 8 midterms.) He goes 6 days a week, and teaches kids aged 4-6 white belts, two days a week. He is very dedicated, and he earned it without a doubt!
He'll be a grandmaster by the time he enters High School. Comforting... 27 months and you get a black belt... 7 yrs old u get a black belt... thats depressing... I wanna say it doesnt really matter about the belt unless he has the skill to back it up but 27 months? thats basically walking in...
im sorry but all the discipline etc is great and you can see it worked, but i have to agree with so many that say giving a kid that age a black belt kinda make a mockery of the system ..any martial arts system. by the time a kid that age goes on in life and if they dont continue to train for many years they forget a lot of stuff and then become to the level of a green belt or worse.
Haha cool kid, but at my school you have to be at least 16, or agreed testable by the board (youngest ever was 13 or 14) and the minimum study time is 4 years for black belt. Hope he sticks with it!

Most people dont get ATA Taekwondo
im pretty sure it is built so that
anybody in the whole world can get a 1st degree black belt
but after that...it is so hard...the forms jump from 46 to 81 moves
the point they are trying to make is that 1st degree is only the beginning of a very long journey...
