  • Hank hill manager of Strickland propane and propane accessories have thumbed down this video

  • Use Propane. Taste the meat, not the heat.

  • hmm we could use a lot of energy to make charcoal or... we could burn the wood use near 0 energy lol =/

  • i think that liquid is liquid smoke...

  • i prefer a gas grill but i do have a charcoal grill

  • really environmentally-unfriendly x2

  • removing moisture isn[t the point; the point is removing the volatiles

  • waste so much energy to make that ...

why not just cut and burn the wood normaly ?

  • they use scraps of timber that would otherwise go to the landfill. The wood is relatively carbon neutral since the tree was collecting co2 during its life. And the fumes from cooking the wood in the retort is flammable, so they should be able to heat the retort partly with off fumes(its like a fire). No i do not work for charcoal companies. Now how kinsford charcoal is green i dont know. Lump is probably beter

And its probably a lot better than looking to petroluem or natral gas

  • thanks for sharing!

  • bricks or chrcoal? which is better?

  • at what cost. I guess ifarcast meant that if you need a flame to burn charcoal, you'll need a flame source (which usually utilizes GASOLINE).

In other words, it might cost more to make it than to buy bag that's massed produced as shown in video above.

  • Would the flame not use gas?

  • at what cost to the enviroment?

    humans kill the enviroment

    we all know that

it is self sustaining, as the gasses from the wood can be sent back and burned again

  • err. how do I know when My charcoal is done? I'm baking small chopped up willow branches in a metal paint can right now in the fire pit and I need to know the right time to take it out.

    anyone know please tell me

    thanks (=

  • When fumes stop escaping from your paint can retort.

  • yep i know it is, i play it =]

  • LOL SIMPLE DISTILLATION

  • wow they use the liquid to make the taste of salami? :D AWESOME!

  • so that's why the charcoal i made smells like smoked salmon!

  • i love charcoal so much! it makes the best burgers and hot dogs. way way better than propane or on a pan, charcoal burns so nicely =D

  • Brilliant way to make charcoal!!

  • Found something i didn't know about charcoal making .Its cooked in a sort of a vaccum. Thanks

  • so much energy used just to get a bit of fuel -.- we need to be smarter to the environment

  • I totally agree with you.

    It looks so primitive!

  • there is no better fuel to use to cook burgers dude /= charcoal is the way =D

  • but, at what cost?

  • what exactly do u mean 'at what cost?'

  • Well, yes, but isn't that video from ages ago?

  • @aman2040 it is good for the environment,it uses waste materials instead of throwing it away, and charcoal used to be made from fresh wood back then today its made of waste stuff

  • this is cool ty for the uploads!~

  • No problem...

  • Thats pretty cool. And yeah it kinda does look unfriendly to the environment and to the people's health who work there. They were wearing gas masks while on the job (at about 2:38)

  • ive made charcoal before and the smoke coming off is just woodsmoke and they are wearing masks cos the smoke hurts like hell when it gets in your eyes, and its not nice stuff to breath.

  • oooooh thanks for the clarification =)

but wouldnt the little fine particles of wood dust get into their lungs and also be a potential for health risks?

  • probably. it probably has the same effect on the lungs as smoking does. anyway if i worked there i wouldn't be caught without a gas mask.

  • Amazing to see it's quite a large industrial plant doing that job. Thanks again for posting!

  • I LUV bbq :-) but i like it on a grill with charcoal (as vid is), and not gas..

    great vid!

  • Thanks!

I think the process looks really environmentally-unfriendly. I'd just marinate the meat in some wood juice and shove it in the gas oven to get the same effect!...hehe!

  • lol. cool
