  • As much as I hate to think of this as being true, there have been great musicians over a span of years, centuries, and decades. And these musicians worked at their craft and gave of their time and energy to entertain and prove that people everywhere could unit. Today, well, if it doesn't involve a button or keyboard or the internet, it's just too hard and time consumming. I don't know about the rest of you but I will take this anytime.

  • as far as i understand after 35 years listening carefully Weather and Zawinul the big thing was Joe... Wayne knew it... His solos do not have the aesthetics and the view Joe had... okay i do like Wayne but the other guy was a genius... a really big thing... an ocean of music melodies and ideas... what more to say... i met him many times... what more to say...

  • @epikouros63 What's interesting about your observation is prior to Weather Report, Wayne was by far the more prolific composer. He wrote most of Miles Davis catalog through the greater part of the 60's. Joe obviously had a much richer sense of harmony but I wouldn't necessarily say that about melody.

  • if the entire world listened to weather report, there would be no hate, just happiness!!

  • @sipkaaaaa Amen to that!

  • Did anybody notice that the keyboard he plays with his right had is programmed in reverse of a normal keyboard (ie low to high, left to right). I thought it was a camera thing, but realized that all the other keyboards play correctly. Rather odd, don't you think LOL

  • @bassfisherman1013 allow me to rephrase...Josef Zawinul is one of the greatest, most innovative musicians of all time

  • Sorry guys but in this piece, Jaco uses his fretted bass. In this concert he used the bass of doom in pieces like a portrait of tracy or third stone from the sun...

  • @edthewave mind-blowing. All his solos on the Arp were inverted? Even the amazing ones on A Remark You Made and Palladium?

  • Zawinul's synths seem backward, sounding high to low! His Rhodes is normal though...WTF?

  • @boodabill The ARP synth he's using was one of the first to allow inverted keys.

  • Man, Wayne is amazing but he always looks so uptight in these old videos.

  • At about 1 min jaco plays a chord with vibrato, thats where you can see the bass is fretless.

  • Spiritinbellie:

Jaco's bass is not fretted. He pulled the frets out and filled them in. That is "The Bass of Doom"!!

  • In this video the Jaco's bass is fretted?

  • @spiritiribelli Jaco had a fretted and an unfretted bass. He used both during performances. Here its the fretted one. It depended on the tone he needed for the song.

  • this song grooves so fucking hard

  • "E=MC(2)" ...

  • lets give some credits to mr zawinul r.i.p. he was the best glue to amazing enssembles ((and soime solos , my god ) ....sorry about my english.

  • @VUPdingCLICK no, it's Peter Erskine.

  • fantastic even

  • Una grande orchestra, con Zawinul a dirigere.Una fra le piu' grandi band della storia della musica. Grazie.

  • Erskin! He plays geniously, doesn't he? What dya think, folks?

  • i like few weather report songs but this that i like is great...

  • those are such beautiful solos!!!

  • ich glaub du hättest vor freude nen herzinfarkt bekommen!!!hab ich in köln total bekifft live gesehen.total abgefahren!!

  • wieso bin ich nich 30 jahre früher geboren worden??

  • I wonder that too, all the time. The sixties and seventies were the absolute peak of music.

  • you're right, mate! most of the most genious musicians lived at that time...jaco, jimmy and so on..
