  • Those were the days when melody was queen----

  • Furthermore, the setting of this whole scene is so beautiful and the atmosphere created by this song is so haunting that one is amazed at the photography behind which the entire song focuses. There is some strange mystery that revolves around this song in particular and of course one is made aware of that mystery when one sees the entire movie. The direction of the movie by Kamal Amrohi was an added feature for the success of the movie esp.this very song.

  • This song had been a big hit on All India Radio for a considerably very long time. The music composition of this song by Khem Chand Prakash has been unparalell on all counts which is an absolute classic. The beauty of this song has been that no music director has as yet been able to beat Khem Chand Prakash as far as this song is concerened and Lata Mangeshkar has not been able to sing any song better than this song..This has been Lata Mangeshkar's 'the best' rendition of any song..

  • When this disc was released, the name on the disc was "Kamini", not Lata. This was because the practice till then was for the disc to carry the name of the character in the movie on whom it was picturised. In this case, Madhubala played the role of the girl named Kamini. Whem the song became a superhit, Lataji requested the Gramophone company to put her name on the disc. After several requests, they agreed and Lataji's name appeared on the disc. This gradually became the standard practice.

  • Just Wonderful...........

  • This song launched two great artists on their career: the incomparable Madhubala and the immortal Lata Mangeshkar! I am so fortunate to have lived in their time.

  • ))))))))))))

  • See the magic of the voice; after "aaram", the next word "sae", even after the perceptible gap appears to come from the same breath!

  • If there is such a thing as ' haunting melody' it can only be this.

  • our young generation is not stupid mr saggi.i m also young and this song is one of my favourite .many of my friends are fan of old sons and rafi ,mukesh and kishore da is still hot cake in this generation also.so mind ur language....

  • Loveliest debut song from any artist ever. No words to describe the sheer beauty of the lyric, picturisation, and above all the melody.

  • Stupid young generation will say boring to this. Not their fault, its their early age, they cannot understand the magic in this great masterpiece. So much emotions are dissolved in it which a true heart can only feel.

  • this song is a masterpiece amongst all masterpieces of Indian film songs!

  • can someone upload the early scene of this film, where Ashok Kumar is travelling in a train with a gentleman and his daughter?

  • What a beautiful song rendered by great Lata Mangeshakar. Haunting music touches one's soul. Present ay composers are no match thugh they are street smart & earn billions.

  • Decades has passed....But melody remain

  • Such was the composers of that period, who infused soul in music, and thats the reason it is still glowing with beauty even now

  • An immortal song by any standard! One of the finest song -Lata ji ever sang :)

  • another beautiful classic song from the queen of Indian music.

  • without a DOUBT....

  • guys you're trying (and i appreciate your efforts) in vain to praise this song.. but no words can describe the beauty, splendor, of this magnum opus..

  • Excellent

  • @Jogeshwarchowdhary ...very touching...

  • My father passed away on 29th July '11 from terminal leukemia. A month or so before that, he asked me to find this song on youtube which he told me heard as a young man. It makes me really happy to say that I did indeed find this video and play it for him.

  • @jenxsilva May his soul rest in peace !

You're lucky you fullfilled his wish.

  • Centuries will pass before another voice of her calibre, elocution and style will be gifted to this planet again. She was extremely lucky of having thin voice. Kamal Amrohi, Naushad Ali and Khemchndra Prakash were the main characters who brushed Lata Mangeshkar. This particular sixty years old suspense melody still keeps you warm. One of my top favourites and when ever I listen to this marvellous melody I can not endure it. I get my goose bumps. (28th July 2011)

  • This movie gave me goose bumps.

  • No sound is originating from this video even after several attempts. I shall be grateful for help to sort out this problem.

  • @assaultk47 Very true! Some party-animals may not have liked this.

  • absolutely haunting....spine jittering melody...

  • Wherever you are Sri Khemchand Prakashji, thank you very much. May be its a small compliment for your magnus opus, but please accept it.

  • What a composition!!! Excellent.

  • Lataji, which will never grow OLD InshaAllah! Absolutely true pforpappu

  • One of the song which I listened in my childhood. I liked at that time and still I like it. Masterpiece song composed by Khemchand Parkash.

  • everything perfect .jai ho lata ji

  • hoRNS!!!!!

  • hoRNS

  • hoRns!!!

  • Beautiful melody

  • The Camera work is absolutely brilliant.

  • @christopherdz super like

  • A classic song by Lataji, NIghtingale of India, which will never grow old.

  • still haunting..ufff..what a composition...

  • The song is so well produced, begins with a slow foreplay, haunting, dramatic expressions, with a violent swinging chandelier starts the most melodic song and thus starts the whole drama of the one who would come.. Wonderful climax with the more dramatic lady going missing at the swing which is also haunting leading to a closing goodbye as she drifts away on the lake..

Haunting melody as someone says it already is the most apt description for this song..

  • @MrBond709

Love in between boy and a girl before marriage is metaphoric.

Girls mostly get stupid in the hands of boys. Its based on sexual appetite.

It's the result of a person possessed of an evil spirit.

  • magic

  • @AnandaBlatt i absolutely agree

  • Does anyone know what raga this is based on?

  • what a classic !!!!! what a masterpiece !!!!!! The melody ushering from heaven !!!!!!!

  • what can i say, i am speechless hearing this song.

  • can anybody tell me where can i get this movie

  • @kartikp462, go to amazon.com. Select Category "Movies & TV" and enter text "Mahal Ashok"

  • A Masterpiece ! An immortal song that made Lata....

Legend has that Rajkumari was signed for all songs in this movie - and Lata ended up singing only one - that made even the gods take notes on music....

I know one story that Omkarnath Thakur - for whose welcome other singers used to take a pause in their classical concerts - stopped completely in the middle of his own concert. A radio was playing Aayega...and he says.."woh sangeet hai...mein ab nahin gaa saktaa iske aage.." That was Lata!

  • The writer and director of this movie was Kamal Amrohi (Syed Amir Haider Kamal Naqvi ). The story was originally titled Haveli but picturised under the name Mahal.

  • Hauntingly beautiful music by Khemchand Prakash. This song put Lata on top among singers.

  • NO good thing ever dies and this song is a good song in pure literary sense, it is everlasting for generations

  • Excellent song-------poetic master-piece. Such beautiful songs are no longer made----sad. Film industry has gone the wrong way these days-------full of nudity and loud noisy irritating music----just noise , and shaking bodies-----no more pristine human emotions of LOVE & HOPE , as it is in this LOVELY song. How the so-called modern life / music is disgustingly de-humanizing.

  • ...paewne jal rahe he...lekin ye kah rahe hei......wow

  • Ashok kumar was very handsome in his earlier days he was the very first-famous lead actor who topped in Bollywood during 1930's to 40's

  • I am looking for the song "Yeh raat fir na ayegi jawani beet jayegi" from the movie Mahal

  • A masterpiece Music by Khemchand Parkaash.

    Suaid Karachi

  • thanks dear serving humanity some way

  • Retro - Like it....

  • I listen to this beautiful, touching and mystical song everyday!! thank you for posting this!!!

  • Request to youtube not to remove this song from here.

  • Lata ji have infinite source of Masterpieces. This is the Masterpiece of all Masterpieces. My belief is that two names from India will live forever - Mahatma Gandhi and Lata Mangeshkar.

  • BOTH ACHA SONG HA

    BOTH HE ZIYDA

  • This song would have been a greater master piece if Asha Bhosle had sung this instead

  • Amazing song

  • oh i luv dis song soo much....what a lyrics...koi lota de wo beete din

  • All these lovely, poetic words....Hmm. People make wonderful, impossible promises under the name of love and then not long after the moon smiles on their bones in the grave...where is the promise of "I will love you forever" ? Maybe forever is really short time...ends in divorce or death.. :)

  • Aayega aayega aayega some one will come Aayega aane waala, aayega aayega aayega the one who must come (my lover), will come (Deepak bagair kaise parwaane jal rahe hain)2 How is it that moths are burning without a flame (how does one feel restless without a reason) (Koi nahin chalata, aur teer chal rahe hain)2 even no one is shooting the arrows, I can feel the pain (how does one feel the pain of seperation without a lover) (Tadpega koi kab tak beaas besahaare)2 How long.....
  • @rajtex How perfectly you have understood the lyrics, really cool!!

  • Thanks for posting this song Kitaabik, this song was originally written by my Great Nanaji Tliak Raj Sharma, who never got the credit for the same, but this is undoubtedly one masterpiece.

  • An absolute masterpiece

  • lataji,u are the pride of india......no words to describe how beautiful this song is.just close ur eyes nd feel in heaven.

  • Unforgettable lyrics accompanied by masterpiece orchestra and above all sung by none other than lata ji. AMAZING.......Arun

  • Made in 1949, one of the most beautiful suspense song sung by Nightingale Lata Mangeshkar. Even now 2010, no song can be compared to this tune and melody.

  • @ssetsat 100% Agree

  • Superb song!!!!!! Really breath taking.Indian music at its best - like Shri K L Sehgal ' s period.

  • Mind blowing.

god bless our adorable Lata ji and bless her loyal fans.

    10****************Sarla.

  • This song not only soothes your ears but penetrates your heart with melodious symphony.. truly unparalleled!! 10 stars!!!

  • it is last film of Khemchand Prakash and not Shyam sunder as mentioned by durlab, Khemacand Prakash did not live to enjoy his best musical creartion

  • i like this so much there are only few songs which rip your heart out <3 this is one of them!

  • lata and music director shyam sunder created this all time hit and touching song.

  • amazing, words are not enough to describe how beautifu this song.. sukriya kitaabik, whoever you are..l

  • in the prelude of the song ..... lata's voice becomes clearer and louder as Ashok Kumar approaches Madhubala...... to give this effect lata was made to stand away from the mike first and then slowly approach it while singing..... what pains were taken at that time for sake of perfection. These people really were of a different breed.

  • Now a days a music director can do the same by adjusting a knob on the synthesizer.

  • I think who ever has put up this song might have immense taste in yester songs.....three cheers for him/her

  • Can one ever get fed up with this SONG - he must be DEAF!!!

  • no...no one can get fed up with this song

  • This song is utterly beautiful.

  • Another composition of ethereal music by late Khemchand Prakash. As I said in my previous mail, this was the first and last composition of this wonderful director. Noteworthy is the sombre mood in the beginning, interspered in the middle by the beautiful quick movements in the middle, and the end of the story - explained in a most beautiful and unique mixture of Indian music whilst adopting the recitative form of Western opera classical music.

  • First playback of Lata.

  • This is not her first playback; not even her first hit.

  • the song is not bad

  • What do you mean by "not bad" !!!!!!!! This is marvelous !!

  • r u stupid nuts ??

u r saying this song is not bad !!!

This is one of the greatest songs of indian music history !

  • The story of this movie was written by Mr.Jamna Das Akhtar and was sold.

And Mr.Jamna Das Akhtar is my gr8 grand father.

  • nakul

Oh God !!! what a magic Lata's voice possess !!!!

I wish the world were as beautiful and heavenly as Lata's voice !!!

    What a melody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Beautiful song ,with excellent music. I remember listening to this song so many many times in 1968 ,when I had just come to Toledo , USA. In those days ,I was so lonesome--had just left the Motherland ,-and was 'thrust' into a foreign land . This lovely song with its great music , and hopeful lyrics of 'future coming' of someone were so comforting. At that time , I did not know that this song was from a movie --Mahal--made in 1949 , and MADHUBALA was one of the stars in the movie.

  • Grandpa do you think your dicision to leave your motherland and come to the land of prosperity a right one?

The poor Indian mother land waits for every prosperous man from abroad to come back and help his poor brethren. And she sings "Ayega Ayega......."

  • Hey, she was born on 14th February 1933! What a beautiful day to born for the most beautiful woman ever or will ever appear on Indian cinema!!!!????

  • very good film,a indian classic,timeless:-D

  • The music director for the movie was Khemchand Prakash who died unaware of the immense popularity of the song.

  • It is very unfortunate that no one ever talk about

who wrote this song I mean who is the poet we

should remember Nakhshub who wrote this song

  • Lyricist of this lovely song was : Nakshab Jarachavi

    chirawa

  • One of the best songs from old days. I still remeber i used to get to scared when this song used to come on Chitrahar on Doordarshan. But now I realise its such a melodies song with excellent music at that time.

  • Thank you for uploading the complete version! Any chance you could also post the "trial by knives" dance from the same film?

  • Thanks for uploading this beautiful song.

    One of Lataji's best!

  • One request to our modern days singers: Dont even dare to try this song, ever!

  • One of the evergreen song

  • wah!

  • Lovely, unparalleled music. And Lataji's voice - incredible. Bharat sarkar should take up restoration of these old classics - it's very hard to get a good print of Mahal. Film restoration technology has been used to restore films made even in the 1910s, much older than Mahal (1948).

  • Nobody can imagine that the song was recorded 60 yrs ago. Such high quality melody and perfection at that time. Hats off to the song and picturisation.

  • The Golden years of Hindi music !

  • I first heard an anglo Indian lady singing this as a lullaby to put her daughter to sleep in the year 1951 and since then always considered this as the greatest composition ever in hindi film music

  • This is quite a complex song.

  • Love and True love

  • What a song and what a haunting background score! Even if MD Khemchand Prakash had composed only this song in his lifetime, he would have been remembered.

nasratkha, I fully agree with you. The voice is well and truly heavenly

  • ohhhhhhhhhhhhh godddddddddddd

    what a melodyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!

the voice is coming from heaven!!!!!!

  • indeed... forever green...

  • What an amazingly haunting & melodious track...thanks a million for the upload.

  • The lyrics were written by Nakshab jarchvi

  • It doesn't get better than this!I remember having spoiled an audio cassette of mine by playing this song innumerable times in my childhood.Even now, I feel like crying when I listen to this.

  • LATA is THE BEST. No one ever sung like her, no one does now and no one ever will.

  • Time will tell there will be one and only Lata

  • super hit .. top class

  • Love this song,,,,was wondering which talented man voted this to be 1 star.

  • Wgat a great song, thanks for the upload.

  • Paul Riordan has done a beautiful cover of this - its on the GizmoGeeks you tube channel - really lovely.
