ruban doesn't have much skills honestly. I am not sure what's his martial art background, but definately have a pair of weak legs. He have no clue how to shin block those kick, thats a surprise to me. there's not enough power on those tinny legs, and his guard is poor, also his punches doesn't seem to have any power, his punches doesn't travels with his body, while bas showed very good punches, with rotation from the abs, and whole body to deliver powerful, plus fast punches.

no. because first ruben wouldn't have been able to lift his knees that fast. Second bas's shins are well conditioned so that even if it hits ruben's shin bones it won't hurt bas. It would probably throw Ruben off balance thou. For example, Muay thai fighters get their kicks checked all the time and it isn't a problem. Ruben just has very badly conditioned legs.

@689433 In terms of skill and technique, Bas has all the tools to take on some of the best. But the Rutten in this fight would lose against today's Noguiera and Couture, IMO. You can clearly see in this fight that he slows down pretty quickly after a few power strikes, which speaks to his injuries, and perhaps lack of conditioning. He's said before that injuries had prevented him from fighting anymore after this. He's not able to heal as quickly as he did before due to his age.

He kicked him until he couldn't use that leg anymore. A larger built fighter like Villareal force their legs to be in a good condition to keep going, which is why he took one out. Attacking the front leg also makes it harder to throw a "cross" (straight with the rear hand, which is more powerful than the front hand), too, which...y'know, sucks.
