  • great song

  • This song/video make me cry. Man, I'm so lame - but... meh.

  • I love this song. There's alot of relatability in the tired sound of the lead singer's voice.

When I feel really down it lifts my spirit for some reason

  • this song is about the dirty, stinking world we live in!! have a nice day :) LOL

  • great song

  • This is sort of based on a true story. Some dude was going to commit suicide, in the 1980's, right before he jumped, a white dove hovered in front of his face for a few seconds, making direct eye contact and then flew off. He quit his job that same day and left everything behind. He is now a Executive pastor/Christian Counselor at a church in San Diego.

  • Thats a great bit of trivia, thanks champion!!!

  • great,uplifting story!

  • I heard him speak in 1995. He was upset and questioning God "God, are you real?" as he was standing on the ledge, that is when they dove descended an hovered, making direct eye contact with him. That was his answer. It reminded him of the passage from the Bible Mark 1:10; "As Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove"

  • Hell No......Collective Soul's version is better than David Cook. I am sure DC had a good voice and he is a nice guy.....i think. No Offence. But Collective Soul are the KINGS and they rock

  • You are such a Pixie. That must have been the first time you heard the song. David Cook did do a good job with a great song. But definatly not better than Collective Sou;.

  • What is the story of this video clip?

  • oh boy........they are too good

  • an awesome song by an awesome band. i love collective soul!!

  • amen!

  • weve all had days like this

  • who keeps a doughnut in their pocket?

  • lol seriously xD

  • I think that was a bagel.

  • a song of new life!

  • Fantastico!!!

  • I love this song

  • i love this song

  • Life is suffering,everybody suffers,everybody.

  • best song ever!

  • looks like g-man from half life at 2:15

  • Did that drone, Ed, feel like killing himself when he wrote this drone song? Why didn't he do it?

  • I miss music

  • I know exactly what you mean man! The 90's really should never have gone :(.

  • Collective Soul is one of my fave bands of all time Too Bad they're not around anymore

  • They are still around, AFTERWORDS is their latest CD, and a new version will be released Dec 9, with 3 new songs.

  • i love message ni dis song, not da song srry its pretty bad. but if u didnt get the message watch fight club lol. its kinda has the same message but its also a awesome movie

  • the guy looks at the ants and then looks down on the people and starts laughing, Im confused, does he start thinking that people are nothing more than ants?

  • You're missing the point Watch it again.

  • this gives me goosebumps

  • This video offers an insight into the heart and mind of depression. Thousands feel just like this.

  • I LOVE this song...The world I know is SAD and LONELY.... But TOTALLY optimistic.... and ready for change...

    PEACE + LOVE = HAPPINESS!!!oxo

    GOD BLESS EVERYONE!!!

  • This song talks to me

  • Great song.

  • i hear this song so much that a spider knows it by memory!

  • Im sort of shocked by the posts that alot of people don't know much of Collective Soul. Their entire catalog is as good as this, they are truely one of the best bands around today and they tour alot so their easy to go see. If you are on a more spiritual quest in life or just in your music, then you'll find out soon enough that these guys "get it". Their latest album is their best to date, check it out.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG AND THE VIDEO!! like omg it has sooo much meaning, like hes gona do it then he finds out he can make a differance... like wow... <3 it!!!!!!!!

  • Allahu akbar!!

  • This is one of the best songs of the last 20 years because it reecognizes what we are recognizing now-- that we all really have to come together... and every person is important... love needs to play out and win in the end! We all need to take civilaztion to a higher better place for no man is an isle onto himself!

  • I really believe that it is possible for us to take civilization to a higher place despite what all the cynics believe. Whether you are religious or not, spirtual or not, it's just about everyone doing their part! "Be the change you wish to see in the world!" Peace, love, and happiness and what a song! So good! So beautiful! Really moving!

  • 14Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— 15and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. Hebrews 2

  • JESUS CHRIST LOVES US ALL

  • the greatest song ived ever heard.. it makes sense to me..money is nothing if you dont have friends.. share what you have and earn more friends..

  • not the meaning of the song i dont think>> I think the mening is that life is a mess and your right, u dont need all that stuff and it can get u into an even bigger mess>>>>

  • One of the most bittersweet songs I have ever heard. This songs always brings a tear to my eye, and then finally, a smile.

  • Yup!

Weirdest thing is, I am nothing close to being gay, but every time I see that guy Ed Roland sing, I think, "Wow, he is a beautiful man." He has such a noble, cool look about him. Plus, that talent!

  • You're right. He has that "noble" quality. "And I laugh at myself.." I don't think you're alone on your same-sex crushes. He is a beautiful man. Let's see, my same sex crush would be Linda Perry. She's beautiful, she's smart, she's talented, and she seems to mirror my feelings in her songs.

  • Its one of those songs that grabs the emotions from within you. Still can't listen to it without the songs making me feel or think differently.

  • So I walk up on high

And I step to the edge

    To see my world below.

    And I laugh at myself

    While the tears roll down.

'Cause it's the world I know.........

  • This still remains the only video out there...period...that can still bring a tear to my eye

  • I just love this song for its honesty/realism in the face of harsh humanity. And I was lucky enough to catch the music video on TV the other day - beautiful! - it brought tears to my eyes. Simple but powerful symbols like the bird, as a reminder of hope.

  • Cool video, cool song, best ever band.

  • esta cancion se parece a iris d goo goo dolls o m equivoco, jeje

  • al contrario la de iris se parece a esta...esta es mas antigua.

  • this is the first time when I'm listening to Collective Soul , I just saw this song and I was like *I must see it / listen * and is soooo beautiful. I'm starting to love this band! xD

    AMAZING SONG!

But when I saw the man upthere I was like "Please don't jump, don't jump!!!" and he didn't xP Beautiful song, beautiful! :x

  • one of my favorite 90's heartfelt powerfull songs..its up there with down in a hole..both give me chills when i listen to them...if i could it be a 30 star out of 5 :)

  • I love this song =) Audio preview, do I sound like a douche? XD

  • Relax people!!! We can all relate to the song its fucking awesome with a awesome video but chill on the negativity...and remember to take your prozac as prescribed, dont want no 1 to o.d.

  • Sometimes life feels like it's all too overwhelming but it's just your frame of mind at that time

it's temporary and there's always hope and love

What a song what a vid!

  • wow.. iv always loved the song and i cant believe iv never seen the video.. very inspiring

  • This song makes me wanna CRY! :[[ Its sad..sometimes I feel like the guy in the video!!

  • what a song!!!Inspirational

  • I wish i had Money.... ::::Loads up GUN::::

  • this video is beautifal! This song is beautifal! It makes you not take life for granted.

  • thank god he had bread

  • i just love this song .its a song of true hope!

  • The guy wanting to jump off the roof looks like Robert Palmer. Very touching video, great song, leaves a lasting impression on you really.

  • He looks like Willem Dafoe, to me. Maybe cross-bred with Robert Palmer. :-D

  • It doesn't get any better than this folks...so true..

  • Perfect song, perfect video!

  • It's the world I know.

  • A timeless song...

  • this song has stopped many suicide attemps i hope

  • For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.Romans 14:9

  • I choose to believe this video is beautiful on it's own merit... I dissaprove of anyone bringing religion into this.

  • Please tell me why Christ had to die? His father was the BOSS. If Christ "had to die," it was because his father could have given him a reprieve and still forgiven mankind for its sins, but didn't. Plus, the whole system is bullshit anyway, because God punishes us for the things we do because of our imperfections and flaws, and that is all HIS CREATION. It's like training a puppy to piss on your carpet, and then beating it when it pisses on your carpet! Fuck God.

  • God doesn't train us to kill and steal and lie, we do that on our own. It's called free will.

  • anti god anti christ anti u anti me hate is all hate is everything we all live eat and breath hate the blessed hate for all hast makth know that we r human for humans have not thw will to love so says the world that brings hate to this godforsakin world we live in

  • your an idiot. seeking attention

  • didnt i get ur attention i was just cheack who would say something about what i wrote lol but thx 4 speaking ur mind

  • Amazing song...

  • Shit... so many years has paased and this video still bring tears to my eyes.

I just saw these guys at concert a coouple of days ago, energetic as ever!!

  • god, this is so emotional

i think so many people have ben there

    at some point in time

    looking back

i wish i had wached this a few years ago

  • Great lyrics! this song is one of my all time favorites!

  • great song, thanks collective soul

  • I saw this video the day after I committed suicide, as I sat in Hell. Thanks Collective Soul...

  • Amazing song...one of Collective Soul's best.

  • wow, this video has deep meaning. At a time when everything is going so badly for me its really strengthened my spirit and cheered me up

  • great song

  • I was 17 year ol' when i saw this video after i tried to commit suicide at that age!! And songs like this are really a cure for a lost soul like a confused teenager!! Thanx Collective Soul!

  • never gets old ... they don't make songs like they used to.

  • This is my favorite music video and collective soul song. Gotta love the 90's when the music actualy stood for something.

  • Statistic shows more people died by suicide than homicide

Its all funny and shit until..your relative is involve.

  • [damn, how my comment was published when I didn`t even pushed the button?]

Each time I listen to this song I wonder if it`s really the same lead singer as in "Run" or "Needs" - his vocal sounds so differently here...

  • The worst is Dandy Life, he really doesn't sound the same!

  • Ed doesn't sing that song.

  • Each time I listen to this song I wonder if it

  • Truly amazing....music doesn't get much

    better than this.

  • Oh just beautiful.

  • This song is just amazing, it shows the true face of society nowadays.

  • 10 stars !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This song has been in my head for almost a week now. I haven't seen this video in years, so sad yet touching video. Collective Soul rocks!

  • The reason (in a technical sense) why the ending is so uplifting...

Switching the first chord from the main riff (Bm minor in this case) to it's relative major (D)... COMPLETELY changeing the mood of the song by simply rooting the chord on a different note than the rest of the song. A REALLY simply songwriting technique that (as evidenced by this song) can be very effective. Good tune.

  • At what point in the video (min-sec, 0:00) does this chord change in the main riff happen? I'm not a music guy, but maybe I can learn something here. Any help is appreciated.

  • right around 3:47

  • Thanks... wow... subtle.... especially to an untrained ear. But I got it. Thanks. This is a great band.

  • good good stuff

  • no need to argue, just enjoy the wonderful music

  • Does anyone other than me get the sense that the Goo Goo Dolls kinda ripped this song off with "Iris" just a little bit?

  • Do you think before your allow your thoughts to feebly make their way our of your brain? If by copying you mean that Goo Goo Dolls used humans in their video, used words, and had music then yes.... Despite the fact that the theme of the two songs are on opposite an opposite spectrum.

What is the obsession with people to say Band A is copying Band B when the content bears no relation?

Juts listen to the damn song and enjoy it without comparing or blaming other groups.

    Simple enough?

  • Hey pal, did i say Iris was a bad song or that it had the same lyrical content? No I asked if anyone thought The Goo Goo Dolls ripped this song off a little if your tone deaf ass would actually listen to the songs, you would probably notcice that they share the exact same musical formula, alternative tuning on accoustic guitars, bakced by an orchestra, softly sang melodic choruses.Using other peoples music is a part of music there are no new notes it's all in how you arrange them.

  • So essentially any band that may use the details you mentioned (alt. tuning, orchestra support, etc.,) is "ripping" of Collective Soul? Your frame of thought is constrained and calling me "corbnikthedickwad" is indicative enough. It thus leads me to conclude the merit of your posting bears no value. run along with the Evanescence fans who, like you, troll forums and accuse other bands of ripping off Evanescence. Perhaps you will realize the foolishness of your ways. Retort away if you must...

  • for some reason part 2 of my comment didn't show up.Essentially I said opinions are what the comment feature is for and and told corbnikthedickwad to get a social life and stop starting arguements on the internet.I just wanted to know does anyone think that "Iris" sounds like this song?

  • kinda with the guitar in the background..but still a great track to clone if ya dont mind me saying..

  • Thanks the guitar intro was actually exactly what i was referring to in the first place, and yeah it's a great song

  • first time seeing this track.. but i think ya mean the whole concept not jus the beat.. yes some similaritys but stil both great tracks

  • 3:18 - 3:28 It's God .... say what they say or say what I say: It's God; only God.

  • I remember watching this video in the mid 90's and being so touched by it. The 90's rock had a alot of raw sincerity to it. I miss that!

  • "Deep song"

  • this song is sad it makes me wanna cry ;-;

  • to be sencere, it seems to me that the generation back then was better than the ones that came after, mine and the actual because we were like..... more into the conservative materialistic vibe...u know what i try to say

  • Sopokista, Couldn't agree more. It's all about the collective soul in all of us. Great song by an even greater band. Hey CS, Please come to Vegas more often. I was at your unplugged show at Mandalay Bay and it was AWESOME. Meaning AWESOME. No seriously, it was AWESOME.

  • this songs will always be great...it directly strikes a persons good side and it makes u reflects some bad stffs you've done despite of this world of unfair, though your the one unfair..at the end we should do our best to help all(or maybe some?) unfortunate people and start thanking GOD for this life we have...pray man, its just a minute and be good..as what they say "it works"...and it really does..

  • I remember hearing this song on the radio in the mid 90s, but I don't think I ever realized how powerful it was until now.

  • Man!!!!!..... I feel so Old.

Well, I am glad I am not the only one who feels like crying when listening to this song.

    Thank you for posting.

    It is powerful music.

  • Who is David Cook.. this is a classic from Collective Soul.90's at its best!!

  • THIS SONG MAKES ME CRY.....

  • There's only two band that make my life has change, Radiohead and Collective Soul.

  • for 6shadow6lord6 : yaeh men you'r right !!! good comment

  • It sucks that everyone only knows this song cause David Cook performed it.

  • Nah, not true. It was popular in the 90's.

  • see, thats beautiful, and every one gives pigeons a bad rap

  • a new found hope hiding in the shadows of the little creaters of the wild but to see the image of hope is never to far from its always and forever waiting but if ur in sorrow there always and forever someone has the same pain as u do so dont feel bad just live

  • A really great song,performance and video.

  • wow he looks like jesus in this video

  • you've seen jesus??? [irony]holy...[/irony]

  • Beautiful song! <3

  • Statistic shows more people died by suicide than homicide

Its all funny and shit until..your relative is involve.

  • Its never funny

  • dude pulls a bagel out of his pocket......thats awesome.=D

  • the most beautiful music video I have ever seen. the first one that has ever made me cry like a baby. beautiful.

  • This is the only music video i know that connects wonderfully with the lyric and the meaning of the song. Very meaningful music video. So, the guy on the building finally found the answer to life and that money is not everything. Life is beautiful. Wish i've found the answer to my life. :(

  • maybe you can find your answers in Jesus, not into a religion but in JesusChrist, in His words i´ve found my answers...

  • nothing is sadder then when the little girl is about to feed the hungry stray dog and just as he goes to take a bite she is pulled away. like how terrible is that?

  • suck you david how dare you sing this song!

collective soul world i know is for the one who knows the world we know..

  • stupid, you dont know what your saying....you are just someone who pretend that they know many things about the world...your shitter than shit, shit...

  • wonderful.

  • im sorry i killed the kid. this song is the reason why. collective soul is only for us, it cannot be shared.

  • The World is a good place and worth fighting for

  • I heard this song in an abortion clinic once.

  • Absolutely beautiful.

  • All these years later and this vid STILL makes me cry. So beautiful.

  • such a great song, brillant

  • good

  • This band is so incredibly talented, I don't believe they've even gotten enough acclaim and publicity. I remember the first song I'd heard by them, "Shine", and I was hooked ever since then. I love the song "Heavy". But their songs that pull at my heart strings even more are their love songs, me being all woman. "December, The world that I know, and How do you love" are among some of my favorites!

  • Holy!!!! You know............ by listening to the beginning I also thought it was the goo goo dolls.

    Was I surprised!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • sounds like Iris...Goo Goo Dolls

  • Wow, this is a really beautiful music video.

  • Isn't the actor in this video Barillo's new face guy from the movie "Once Upon A Time in Mexico"

  • The sad thing This looks like a business man

wanting to commit suicide in wall street. With the economy the way it is i wonder how this might become reality to people that were on top of the world and now have nothing?

  • Wow. Sad video with a heart-warming ending.

Great song on the radio stations today.

  • Now we talk all time about her problems, and she wants me to adopt her. Not sure that is possible, but my heart is not so empty anymore! I dare any rich person to give the percentage that I do!!!

  • You see, I went back to my alma-matter to party, and this 25-year old beauty from Colombia tried to sell me her body to stay in school. She was out of money, and it was either that or she had to go back home. She was obviously so nervous about it all, and I said hell no! So I paid her bill rather than buy the latest flat panel TV or whatever, and I feel great about it! She has a sick mother and she doesn't know who her father is.

  • I make $60+k/year, (no big deal), no children and single, (although I cry sometimes that I don't have a family at age 43), but I just gave $2,000 to a special someone to stay in college.
