  • :( ...what...?

  • This is one of Motown's best as this tore up the airwaves back when it was released and trust me everybody was s-h-o-c-k-e-d to learn Chris was a white girl! H-D-H worked this song. For real, dawg

    billy

  • Great song reached number 2 in vancouver bc on radio station cklg in nov 66

  • Toon!

  • White girl got SOOOOOOUL!!!! Thanks to Berry Gordy who signed her to Motown.

  • @Quaisheezy She really should have sang more Holland-Dozier-Holland!

  • Sing white girl! LOL! Get it!

  • Motown's answer to Dusty Springfield.

  • @timmy841212 Right on Timmy. Too bad the Motown Brass were focused on promoting the other groups/artists . Ms.Clark had 5 Single releases & 1 LP released by Motown. Lots of undiscovered "gems" out there. Thanks to "nsoulchris", and a few others, the rest of us will now be treated to these "LOST" recordings.

  • Ah god dammit, now how do I get this bad taste out of my head? (IDM fan)

  • i thought love went bad..it was just her TUNAFISH....

  • what a great song u you dont get much better than this i'm 13 and lovin the era of motown and northern soul Xpinger please keep adding great songs like this on i truely bow down to chris clark what a song one of my faves

  • This one is slightly different from the one on Soul Sounds. Did she do two takes?

  • HDH had her sounding like a female Levi Stubbs(the Four Tops could have done this one)....She does a fine job on this, and of course you can't leave out James Jamerson on bass!!

  • One of my faves!

  • I must say I preferred Clark's Turning Dragon to this, but it's an interesting new direction.

  • Lol, wrong Clark dude. I clicked on this expecting the Clark I love but this is still not bad. Try Googling 'Chris Clark' and you'll get pics of our Clark and this chick.

  • this is great---iv never heard of her. WHAT A HIT!!!

  • Great tune, check the version by 'The Underdogs', you can find it here on YT...

  • lets do some heroin

  • I understand that Michael Jackson even recorded a version of this tune - even though this tune was a fantastic effort by Chris Clark, it "bubbled under" the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #105 in October of 1966-

  • It did, however, make Billboard's R&B charts that year, peaking at #41.

  • @57Will you're absolutely correct - thanks for the info-

  • Wow, that's good!

  • I read somewhere that there were people at Motown who felt that Chris Clark wasn't that good of a singer, but she was closely associated with Berry Gordy - in fact, Gordy was infatuated with her because she was a tall, platinum blonde who resembled Dusty Springfield-

  • Wow,are you still together?

  • A bass line you could hang your clothes on!

  • Back in 1966 my girlfriend bought this 45 for me after we'd had an argument. I got the message. We made up soon afterward. Great song! Badass then, badass now!

  • i first learned about Chris Clark in the book CALL HER MISS ROSS- had never heard of her before.

THEN I heard this song on the first HITVILLE USA boxed set, and I was floored...great talent...she was singing her behind off on this!

  • mnmcv1...r u me? lol, that is so crazy...i got that book at a thrift store and heard about chris for the first time too. I too went on to get the Hitsville boxes set and was awed. i don't know why this wasn't more of a hit! (Also, I especially love The Temps and "I Want a Love I Can See" on the hitsville set, should've been a hit too!!) Lots of great songs on there...

  • I never heard this one by the temps before

    watch?v=8IXNWtfcpzM

but I see what you mean 'atruesoutherngal'

    :)

  • She just completely went to town on this song!! Too bad it only went to #105 on the Billboard charts in Summer 1966-

  • First Picture Sleeve ever released on Motown. Yowsah.

  • this was not the first picture sleeve. i have motown picture sleeves from 1962, this was released in 1966

  • Which came first? Was it Barrett Strong?

  • YES!

  • never knew about chris clark til the other night she was on a programme about motown. she has an amazing voice.

  • Awesome....Blue eyed soul at its best....Chris Clark was so underrated @ Motown!

  • Superb!!!

  • fuel power :D

  • Another example of why the original is almost always the best.

    Thanks for the upload.

  • ha ha...

  • Okay ... this song rocks. And should have done far better than it did. Well, at least she shared the Oscar nomination for best screenplay (Diana Ross' "Lady Sings the Blues").

  • I mean it. I can't get over this song. Bluesy vocal, rock-n-roll track ... I can't handle it! LOL

  • this song SIZZLES

  • I must be 165 years old. I still have the LP>

  • It's amazing how many incredible songs slip through the cracks.

  • Lethal, absolutely lethal! Reached #41 on Billboard's R&B charts in 1966 (but should have gone higher.) What a mover this is!

  • Agreed. This song rips.

  • this is a good song, better than The Underdogs version on VIP just 6 months later

  • The Jackson 5 made a version of this song in the 70's.

    Many thanks, Xpinger

  • Fantastic.

  • Its a cracker!
