  • This DVD intro is too good! real cinematic experience!

  • I swear to god the first thing I thought was, "Why is Pee-Wee Herman playing the drums?" great song, great band

  • When did this concert take place? (I was born in the mid 90s' so I wouldn't know).

  • @HeetWav13 Moving Pictures tour, video came out in '82

  • Balls to The Wall. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Limelight starts at 2:25, for those of you that are impatient.

  • Rush. The most successful cult band of all time.

  • The perfect band would be

A kick ass bass player who has a thing for rickenbackers,

a crazy one of a kind guitar player

and the best drummer in the world who can also wright

    crazy lyrics...

    oh wait....

  • @loler123459 haha good thing Rush exists

  • @loler123459

    Right? /wink

  • why isnt this song included in the album?

  • @Zombieman27 Which one? limelight? it is on moving pictures.. and the intro was camera eye

    also moving pictures

  • @loler123459 no i mean why isnt limeligh included on exit stage left?

  • The underlying theme=Rush kicks major ass and anyone who disagrees can suck the fat dick of awesome progressive rock!

  • Brings me back to my high school days in NJ. Early 80's. Living in the Limelight. Man. What a cool song.

  • What's the song at the very beginning?

  • @jakub421 The Camera Eye from Moving Pictures.

  • The best live performance album..Exit Stage Left.....!!

  • And they had no clue how big a hit that was to become.

  • Geddy Lee is a fucking beast! i so wish i could sing that high & sound that good! i'm so jelly! lol

  • Rush is a most excellent live band! i believe it was the summer of '08 that i caught them in Utah during their Snakes & Arrows tour. it was an unforgettable experience, that much is true. i salute these poetic Canadian musical geniuses. Rush have definitely enhanced my life & made it that mush sweeter.

  • An absolute classic. Rocks like nothing else and a must-have for any road-trip playlist. I loved this song when it came out and it just gets better and better. Just an amazing song live. Made a superb closer for the R30 tour (along with 2112 and Strangiato ... what an encore .. like listening to a wet dream).

  • I have no Heart to Lie, I love Rush..

  • I wonder how Neil got the Basketcase from the Breakfast Club to shine his cymbals.

  • As simple as the main riff to the song is...it's so catchy. The ability to write simple things that sound great is one of the true signs of a great guitarist imo.

  • i mostly listen to metal, particularly pantera, metallica etc...,but rush is still my favorite band of all time

  • @caseyjones67 same here i listen to mettalica iron maiden megadeth, but i still have time to listen to rush yeah!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the best for ever rush i love you

  • One must put up barriers to keep oneself intact. What a great lyric.

  • Best. Band. Ever.

That being said, who dressed Alex?

The 80s were a dark time...

  • One of the coolest Rock songs ever ! I saw some girls in that hockey arena. There are a few female Rush fans out there.

  • @jim102010 Of which I am one, and rather dedicated at that!

Class act and unlike any other band of the 20th/21st centuries. Good to see people like Dave Grohl give proper tribute to where the tribute is due. Music, American pop/rock music, has never been the same since RUSH quietly infected every thinking musician's ear with complexity and grace. And balls. Cool, titanium balls.

  • I didn't know Pee Wee Herman played drums... :)

  • @RUSHSUCKS1000 I can tell your a huge Rush fanatic...

  • @The KenKens are so much better than this complete bullshit, what the fuck, Neil doesn't even know how to keep time, i am a much better drummer than that loser... Alex is a joke, can't strum properly sounds like a retarded horse with hooves playing and Geddy is a completely bad and vile joke.

  • @RUSHSUCKS1000 The funny thing is that your just an asshole because a video you liked had a couple of guys playing a rush riff, you just are a fan who for some reason hides his musical taste to fit in with the common boring world as for real Rush fans don't give a shit about what others think about them, they shit on your head.

  • Exit Stage Left the best album they ever did IMHO!! Why can't we have music like this today?

  • Rush are gods

  • I do have the DVD, had the VHS tape but its so worn out.

But its nice just to click on the youtube video every now and then.

Cheers to my fellow Rush fans!

  • I wish I was alive in 1981 to go to this concert. Really, I love this.

  • @JuliaMartinsJonas123 was there and it was awsome

  • Solo is orgasmic!! Love RUSH 4ever...

  • 2 days and i will be seeing them. Rush finally coming to Ireland...Fuck yeah

  • SLAP DA BASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Who is doing the narrations? I assumed Neil Pert. But I have not heard the voices enough to really know.

  • @Ridd333 neil, Ged and Alex do it through out the program

  • @Ridd333 Neil Peart followed by Geddy

  • @Ridd333 neil has the deeper voice, ged and alex have the higher voice, alex is the one with the thicker canadian accent.

  • @manofgod30 You ever look at their history out side of the band? They have the history of a correct normal person.

  • PLEASE, WHAT'S THE NAME OF THE SONG THAT IS PLAYING DURING THIS INTRO? THANKS!

  • @BETOPOA09 The Camera Eye...also from the Moving Pictures album.

  • @BETOPOA09 'The Camera Eye'. Now that Rush released a remix of their 'Moving Pictures' album in 5.1 I suggest you get the new 5.1 remixed album they released only about a week ago or less. Most people say the intro to 'The Camera Eye' is like a totally new song with the clarity it posses but you k

  • Just listen to that bass tone...I mean , JUST LISTEN!!!!!

  • I saw them in são paulo - brazil last year and they played all album moving picture in the same quality that I saw in this video. I hope to see them one more time.

  • This time, the instruments had wires just to stop them from flying away.

Neil can't help, as his playing could smash that drums to the center of the earth.

Call me exagerated? Just make all this things methaphors.

Now you have a slight idea of what is RUSH.

  • Is it just me, or does Neil Peart look a lot like Tom Hanks around 5:14 ?

  • I slappa da bass, mon!

  • they are the total package: extreme musicianship. Catchy melodies. lyrical complexity and sophistication. And balls.

  • @REALCougarsRmales well said....RUSH for the World!

  • @REALCougarsRmales And still not in the Rock Hall Of Fame. How is ABBA in the Rock and Roll HOF, and these guys aren't? Thumb up for RUSH needs to be in there.

  • I can not believe a stranger is a long awaited friend.

  • Skip to 2:24 for the actual song.

  • awesome quality for an awesome band!

  • I would really like to say Rush is the greatest band ever, I really would. But Pink Floyd will always have that spot for me. Rush is #2 though! A really close #2.

  • Gotta love that Rickenbacker tone.. Rush forever.

  • @kableble The tone Geddy got from the Rickenbacker is probably responsible for 1/3 of all sales of Rick basses since the '70s.

  • this song is great in the studio, but this song FREAKIN PWNS LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • rush couldn't have picked a better time to record a live set on video. we're blessed to have this today as rush fans.

  • Alex Lifeson- Lead guitar

Neil Pert- Pretty much anything even like a drum

    Geddy Lee- Lead bass.

  • One of the greatest moments ever in music.

  • i can't decide for this album or A Show of Hands

  • @Rushguitarist1: Your comparison includes the CD versions, right? I mean ESL on CD has three masterpieces that were CRIMINALLY OMITTED from the DVD (Broon's Bane, Jacob's Ladder & La Villa Strangiato). So if the CD versions are included I'd gotta go with ESL, don't know 'bout you though. Tough call for sure.

  • @Armando2012102 yeah like A Show of Hands shows the fun they had as youngens but Exit Stage Left has great tunes

  • @Armando2012102 Well, Jacob's Ladder wasn't omitted from the video in the sense that they edited it out, it simply wasn't even played on the Moving Pictures tour when the video was filmed. The entire side 2 of the original 4 album sides was recorded in Scotland on the Permanent Waves tour which wasn't filmed. The ESL, A Show of Hands, and Different Stages albums/cds all had songs from the previous tours in addition to their (then) current tours.

  • @xxxx15us: So there is no hope that a video version of Jacob's Ladder from the ESL tour will come out one day. Bummer.

  • @Armando2012102 No, sorry. Even if they were able to release the full show Jacob's Ladder still wouldn't be there. There would be a lot of other great stuff though but the odds of them ever finding the remaining footage, and restoring, and releasing the full show are pretty slim. At least we can hope they will but even if they did JL will not be there.

  • @xxxx15us: Is that the same case for La Villa Strangiato? If so, double-bummer.

  • @Armando2012102 A Passage to Bangkok and Jacob's Ladder would not be on the full video. La Villa Strangiato would be. In spite of the way the video looks the By-Tor/In the End/In the Mood/Grand Finale medley was not the encore, it was the end of the regular set. La Villa Strangiato was the encore. 2112 Overture/Temples, The Camera Eye, Vital Signs, Natural Science, Working Man, and two separate parts of Hemispheres would also be on video in addition to the other album songs that already aren't.

  • @xxxx15us: That must've been MONSTROUSLY EPIC, to hear the 2112-Grand Finale, and then La Villa.

On another note, what's up with "Cut to the Chase"? I cannot fathom why such a masterpiece is very rarely played live.

  • @Armando2012102 Unfortunately Cut to the Chase has never been played live. I love that song too. It still has a chance though, they usually pull out 1 older song per tour that had never been played before. They've done that with Between Sun and Moon (also from Counterparts), Entre Nous, and Presto for instance on recent tours. Your best hope for a full Moving Pictures tour show is Exit Stage Right, it's an audience bootleg but it sounds pretty darn good and has the complete show.

  • @xxxx15us: Exit...Stage Right! Dude, I didn't even know that existed! I wish there were more connoisseurs like you on YT. I'm definitely gonna check out the stuff you suggested. Thanks for the tip!

  • @Armando2012102 I have the bootleg if you want it PM me

  • @Annonymus121: Thanks, man. I checked out your channel and you've got some pretty amazing stuff there. I really liked the bootleg you have of 2112 played during the PW tour. Absolutely awesome.

  • @Armando2012102 If you want the bootleg the DL link is in the description !

  • @Armando2012102 Also, if you want to hear Vital Signs from Exit Stage Left just search youtube for Vital Signs (Live "B"-side), it was intended for ESL but then left off for lack of space, it was officially released later though as a B-side to New World Man and most people don't even know it exists.

  • Neil Peart is wearing a bowtie.

    Your argument is invalid.

  • THREE GUYS! Biggest Sound EVER! Never gets old...

  • Rush change my life

  • @deidara111 Mine as well!!!!! And I am sooooooo thankfull for it!!!

  • Geddy Lee's balls are delicious!

  • This song sends the most amazing chills down my back. FUCK YEA!

  • rush is the best band ever, hands down

  • @jasonjpg Without a doubt. Hail to The Kings!

  • @jasonjpg i've been listening to bands since 1964 when i first heard the Beatles, and I've seen a lot down thru 40 some years, but none compare to the musicianship and awesome sound of RUSH. Period!

  • @jasonjpg you ever heard of zeppelin? rush was inspired by them. so second greatest

  • @pked7173 Sometimes the master is overwhelmed by the apprentice.

  • @pked7173 That logic is flawed. By your logic Led Zeppelin is inspired by blues men like Willie Dixon. Therefore he must be better than Zeppelin.

  • @jasonjpg That's right!

  • \o/\o/\o/\o/\o/

  • For those who think and feel....

  • They were in there late 20's then... They accomplished more musically before their 30'th birthdays than 99.995% of all other musicians accomplish in there whole lifetimes! Rush will live forever!!! Their music is timeless!

  • Awesome band! I've been hooked since the first time I heard "Tom Sawyer"! They have the most intelligent lyrics of any band out there. Period!

  • Ahhhh when performers were performers.

  • Looks like the 3 People who voted Thumbs-Down lose.. Rock On, Geddy, Alex and Neil!!

  • the next time i see rush will be for the 12th time.....

  • I like Alex's sportjacket. Looks cool

  • i love the mix for camera eye at the beginning!!

  • Its nice to be able to see this now that I"m a real adult...when they did this show I was still a teeny bopper virgin, now I"m a mother etc...

Uranian Fiction Fan's effort at her own fame...

  • Such immersive music. anybody who doesn't like rush is a complete idiot with no taste. this is the most relaxing and feel good music i've ever heard.

  • What's damn amazing is that in Concert, it sounds just like the Studio version..

  • going to see them for the 6th time since 1985,the 2nd best band off all time.Tonight they are doing the Moving pix album.EPIC SHOW 4 SHO.To the idiot calling the guy@1;10 ARE NOT GEEKS THATS how they looked in the 70's early 80's and were prob cool as hell.

  • That rickenbacker suits Geddy. For some reason even i don't know :P

  • We Rush fans are by far the most passionate and loyal fans in all of music. Even more so than Michael Jackson fans.

  • have this on vinyl...amazing album. wish i was around in those times to see them live in their prime

  • One of the greatest songs in history. Great quality as well! Thank you Exit!

  • @deanhamilton on my way to nec to see them again

  • The kids at 1:10 are straight up gangsta in their matching plaid.

  • RUSH!!!!!!!!!

  • 18 years come along since i saw this exit stage left concert (on on teary and very weary pirate copy ) back in santiago of chile in 1992..

    since then ..

RUSH is being then sountrack of my life..

memories and feeling dance agitated in my sould when their music RUSH trought my senses "..

    i think is love !

  • This is my favorite Rush song ever, and this is the best bit of Rush ever recorded ever. Ever. Ever ever. Lovin em since I was 14, when the Rx3 DVD set came out I had just gotten 40 bucks for a schoolbook, so a course I went straight to the music shop and got the new Rush DVDs. This is too good. Geddy's bass tone...his vocals...I have to leave it at that or I'm gonna get fuckin teary!

  • That is just the most perfectly beautiful 6 minutes of live video ever recorded...

  • damn, I've never heard Rush live before...that was awesome. Sounds even better than the album.

  • @kingv911: Dude, you got some serious catching up to do! Check out the indescribably awesome live versions of Jacob's Ladder and La Villa Strangiato from the "Exit Stage...Left" CD.

THE MUSIC OF RUSH IS THE MUSIC OF THE SPHERES

  • RUSH IS THE BEST

  • is it me or do they play this song really slowly now?

  • What's the name of the song at the start of the video?

  • @Seatote14 hi,the music at the start is from Tha Camera Eye,off Moving Pictures lp.

note:sometimes you can get the answer to your questions by reading the viewer comments.

  • it dont get any better than this..

  • Happy birthday Geddy!!!

  • I can't believe this was in 1981! This song alone sounds ten folds more futuristic and cutting-edge than anything out today. Awesome!

  • the openeing words describe the stage feel perfectly

  • Listen to the album recording of this and compare it to this and tell me they don't sound exactly alike. They're perfect.

  • @dave8386

    Exactly?

    More like better!

Rush is one of the only bands that can make a song sound better live than studio.

  • Weaow Weaow Weeeeaaaaoow..... Weaow....

  • The solo in this song still gives me chills...

  • This is a classic concert. Rush has un-matchable class and talent.

  • Alex has such a huge sound. I'd love to know what rig he's using.

  • the best band ever hands down

  • The only question i have is why isn't this song on the album? It's better than half the songs on there?!

  • When you see Geddy with that Rickenbacker you know your gonna hear earlier Rush... :0)

  • rush amazes me, <3. i love this, LIVE is just as good as the disc i have, seems like there is no studio that exists to them. Lol:]

  • Again, amazing lyrics: comes close to freewill which is my favourite :)

  • Niel Peart is a freaking amazing drummer. Wish I had half his talent.

  • Wow Geddy's nose is HUGE! Just like mine :D. He must be Jewish too.

  • @PinkTheFloydable He is. His parents fled to Canada from Germany during WWII.

  • @tdkdgh alex parents also fled here, but from siberia and for a completely different reason. he real name is Alexander Zavonavich or something along those lines

  • The Camera Eye, from Moving Pictures.

  • does anybody what song is playing at the beginning?

  • @SleetyTrash camera eye

  • this is the best version of this song in my opinion

  • @beyoncelover202 this coming from a beyonce fan -.^

  • @RollTheBrains lol, that is a long story but I actually dont.... she is hot though!

  • @beyoncelover202 agreed

  • People who play instruments listen to Rush, some of the most talented musicians ever!

  • why is this not on the CD

  • this song is so beautiful...but what i wouldnt give to see rush live, performing, and doing what they do best,er...just being rush.which is always amazing anyway;)

    roll on the new album\m/

  • @musicalkaratekid saw them back in the 80's,one of the best shows I've been to.

  • i find the intro to this song very apealing and moving.

    moving pictures.

    (;

actually, i find the intro to EVERY song apealing to the ear of a musicition

    wow i spelled that wrong

    epic fail.

  • @gabrielle34291 i heard this at me local pool and started singing people looked at me weirdly like i was talking to myself XD

  • After seeing all the dudes in the audience I now know where they got the idea for the movie I Love You Man. Rush rocks hands down

  • This is the funnest song to play on guitar

  • @ThePastrami24

Oh hell yeah, the first Rush song I ever learned on guitar. Exit Stage Left is the reason I begged my parents for my first guitar when I was a kid. It was a Gibson Explorer copy out of the JC Penny's catalog. My dad bought me a $30 used amp at a garage sale and I used my birthday money to buy a MX distortion pedal.

My current setup is a bit more sophisticated.

  • I just don't get it... I'm talking music with my friend right now and she's into all that "hardcore" omg the singer is soooo hotttt kinda music. She's trying to tell me that that kinda music will be listened to for years.

How can you listen to that music when bands like RUSH are here to be enjoyed?

  • tell her to suck it! RUSH can knock them out in a heartbeat

  • Rush is the best, technically perfect, and great to dance to.

  • As an outcast teenager myself who was, and still prefers to be on the outside looking in , seeing these guys in Portland, OR, in 81 during this tour, i felt right at home.

Except good god alot of weed was being consumed at this concert, lol.

  • @lBStrokin i think rush is one of the only bands who never did(or caught for that matter) drugs

  • @lBStrokin well in the 80s

  • btw, i need to remember to hire someone to polish my cymbals...that's a damn good idea.

  • See those kids at 1:10? To me, they're geeks...just like me. Outcasts whose lack of fashion or trend is made up for by their ear for true musicianship. I don't know why they've always stood out to me, but to me, when I go to a Rush concert, I don't see tons of chicks throwing their bras like at a Crue show. No, I see people like me...a lot of ex-geeks who just love good music and have that common outcast bond. That's why Subdivisions is the one song that speaks to me more than any other.

  • Well said!
