I know this is meant to be all about Alan Rickman - and why not? he's fab! - but there were so many other fabulous performances in this series. Nigel Hawthorne as the Archdeacon was my favourite. Then there was Geraldine McEwan as Mrs. Proudie......and I adore Bertie Stanhope, too. Must get the DVD out and watch the whole lot again.  Sheer brilliance!

It's a big pleasure to see Mr. Rickman when he was young. Too bad that he became an icon of British theatre and movies so later. He had a hard life, because he didin't know what exacly he wanted to do in his life. I'm happy that he decided to play in the theatre and movies. I can't imagine the world without him. Thanks so much I add to my favourites !

@ARickman55 Not knowing what to do with your life when you're 18 is not what I understand as a "hard life". He come from very humble backgrounds and that's remarkable, but not tragic. Here he shows that he has always been a talented actor. Why he didn't began with film works before is a mistery. Anyway, we're lucky enough to have these tv movies he did from time to time (Busted, Benefactors, etc.) to watch him in his younger years. I think he made of Slope a succesful character in those years...
