In fact, many of my family in Surin province speak Khmer. My grandmother was Khmer but Thai adapted. Thats my moms half, I still have my fathers, French, German, American born side. We are all the same anyways.Thai-Lao-Khmer---we are sisters and brothers

The program in Cambodia has tought us that the laptops are successful and the kids are responsible stewards of the machines (virtually no theft or damage has been reported so far).
Now the big challenge will be worldwide distribution and implementation.
Nick Negroponte and his wife started this program in 1999 in Cambodia. This program sought to implement educational laptops for children in the developing world. For the past several years he has led the team at MIT to design and implement an inexpensive laptop for children.
I love the idea of OLPC, although they could have used a few more culturally neutral themes (the baseball one gave me a laugh, replace it with football/soccer!). I'd love to see high level programs available as modules for these laptops too. Downloadable programs a student can get from their school and learn a material of their choice.
english..yeah every civilized person must speak english.
in my country, english has even became a deciding factor whether a student might continue his/her education or not (regardless of their subject of interest, for example art). i think it's silly.
hah... i love the idea of the $100 lappie, i am 100% for it... but come on, do third world kids really need to learn how to say 'i want to play baseball'?
